Just adding and taking away clicks of downforce every couple of laps to see what works best. Also, I felt tyre pressures need to be lowered massively(massive gamechanger) as it gives you much more traction which should prevent you from spinning. Mechanical Engineer here. In any car, when you exceed the tire's maximum lateral capabilities, the torque that you feel when turning the wheel (self-aligning torque at the tires) drops off significantly. It is an inherent quality of tires but it acts as an indication of understeer for the driver. You can feel this sensation in your street car, or kart, or even in realistic sim racing games. Getting used to this feeling will be to your advantage as a driver

@VTiDOHC2 жыл бұрын
Such a shame they updated it. I much preferred the older handling model. It was so much more engaging to drive compared to any F1 game. Even more disappointing was a promise from David Greco not to change the game. But ended up doing it anyway. All that was needed was maybe a small change to the traction. The force feedback has completely changed. You used to be able to feel the understeer building up on the exit of corners, now that's completely gone and the feeling of the limit of grip through the wheel is completely vague. So disappointing, it was their best F1 game in years. Sometimes developers just need to stick to their original interpretation of what they intended instead of pandering to esports and real life drivers in the chase of "realism". Same happened with Gran Turismo 7. The game wasn't originally intended for this. So disappointed. Trust your original instinct, forget all the noise about realism. It's ultimately a game at the end of the day

I haven’t had played the patched version yet but it sounds like an improvement. My gripe with the release version (&1.05) was you could spin without any feedback at all through the wheel so no chance to correct it which is stupid. It’s ok saying the original model created a skill gap but when you watch anyone like Jarno playing and notice that he’s almost never going beneath 4th gear then that’s not a skill gap, that’s a bug. If the F1 drivers say the old model was wrong then let’s see if they think the new model is better. It’s supposed to be a simulation after all
@MattSwain12 жыл бұрын
And having done a few laps I can say it’s definitely a step in the right direction. It seems very unlikely that the likes of Mercedes spend all that money building an 8 speed gearbox where 4 of them are almost unusable. The patch means the cars can be driven using the correct gear for each corner. There’s still skill involved, you can’t just stamp your foot to the floor in second gear, but you can now use second gear where previously it had to be feathered to the point that I could outrun in my Ford Fiesta!

After reading these comments, I now understand that I'm in the vast minority here. The patch has definitely made things better (not perfect), from FFB on my wheel (not Fanatec) to the AI, tire (tyre) temperatures, setups, etc. What I found really interesting when playing with the setup on 108 AI is that the stiffer your springs, the lower that you can run your car without scrapping. In "flashback", you can see the floor actually lower as you gain speed, rise when you brake, and shift left in a right corner or right in a left corner. Obviously, running more stiff loses curb performance, but it seems that the ride height actually generates downforce now, and the suspension is actually somewhat realistic. There's still too much acceleration, grip, and tire temperatures are too easy to manage (especially the AI who don't experience tire temperatures when they should). I also seriously wish that they'd fix braking. You shouldn't be able to run 50% brake bias without locking the rears and sliding easily. Most F1 teams use 55-66% front bias. De Vries used 52% accidentally in qualifying and immediately locked the rears. It was extremely unstable. The brake temperatures should actually matter, especially on the smaller rear drums. Running 0-0 wings and not locking is crazy. They tried this on F1 2021, but the E-Sports guys complained and got it changed. That's so stupid. Also, upgraded chassis models. So, there's still simple things that I would seriously like to see in the game that are easy changes which make the game more realistic and intuitive. They've taken some good steps, it's just little things that they really need to implement.

Agree... the old patch was way to slippery at high speed. I was making mistakes that I would not do in Rfactor2 and Assetto Corsa. But the sound is a bit strange in the new patch... a bit to "ratteling" if that is even a word.
@koendejong66132 жыл бұрын
Is it easier with the new patch than 2021 game?
@egj19752 жыл бұрын
@@koendejong6613 Yes it is. If I would try to put a number on it I would say at least 25% easier than the 21 game... maybe more. I am a casual racer with Thrustmaster T300 RS wheel and for people with my skills its much more easy to drive F1 now than ever before without using traction control.
@doriancarriat42412 жыл бұрын
For me, it wasn't a skill gap. It was more of a pay gap. The better your pedal and wheel were, the easier it was for understanding the limit of traction. So I'm ok to make it more realistic... Even if I would prefer to feel the car better than how it feels now.

Haven’t played the new patch but it should be better having heard what you had to say about it. I wanna learn without any assists and if the grip is matched more to having traction then I’m happy to hear.

I came across this video and thought to myself let’s see what has this new handling patch is about as I haven’t played the game since it was released ( lost interest due to flat experience and boring ). After seeing the comments I went to try the new patch myself to see if handling model actually improved like what most people say on here. My feedback is handling hasn’t changed in any shape of form to start with. They refined the throttle effect so that car is more controllable when utilizing no traction in low gears. (Improved yes) The ffb model was fine in dry wether I thought however in wet conditions it’s undrivable the understeer is extreme. New patch & my opinion remain the same. Shit game to be brutally honest.

The difference here is the self aligning torque mechanism is something the driver can adjust on the fly, rather than being something automatic.

shall we talk about how much its changed the game play as well - im doing career mode build a team, finally got to the top of the performance chart, mclaren are 7th and yet they win everything and most of the time setting the fastest sector times - my difficulty is at 57, i lowered it from 60 about a week ago to make it a little more competitive for myself, rather than being ruined by the AI straight line speed, now all of a sudden since the latest patch its back to me losing about 2/3 seconds a lap. to other racers - im a casual player, i use the games preset car settings but tweak it here and there for aero and things, and i use a controller on ps4

I played a couple games and just feels completely wrong to me, huge step back in my opinion, as you mentioned the wheel just goes light and I’m not able to get as much info through the wheel as I was before, quite disappointed as they changed something that was good… example: turn 1 at Japan, wheel instantly going light and making you run wide, maybe it’ll be something that you’ll need to adapt to but out the box first impression are not good

I don't know about everyone else, but the patch for me is not only a step backwards, but a step back to 2010; I am struggling to turn a single corner, with zero throttle, without losing the rear

Honestly I absolutely hate the new traction. It feels like I have 0 control exiting out of corners now. I hate it. I played it all day and absolutely felt miserable. I might just actually quit. The handling was fine before.

Good thing they made the traction more realistic. It was ridicilous before. Wheelspin at 4th gear on warm tyres in an f1 is not realistic or fun.

Though f1 games were always unrealistic when it came to traction, look at the last corner in real on the French track. 3 gear and no real hassle. They should make it as realistic as they can

The one thing they need to fix is the aggressive nature of the AI drivers, I’ve done lots of races and they are trying to ram you of the track, I’ve also notice minor glitches with the pit radio where they say Ferrari driver took the lead and it could be a Mercedes’ or rb that’s taken the lead

@Limitless 1) understeer mechanic yes thats how it should be the wheel should go lighter when you understeer many other sims do the exact same thing and as far as iam aware that´s how it should be. (i cannot comment on how it feels in f22 as i don´t own the game tho) 2) what about tyres? is the harder compound the faster one? as far as iam aware teams in real life choosing the harder compound as they get more fast laps out of it than a softer one. that´s something i personaly would be very curious about.
@PENTASTIC252 жыл бұрын
I might be one of the only controller players in the world who actually liked the previous traction model😂 I was regularly the quickest under acceleration and noticed the wheel players struggle more, mainly it was that vibration in the controller that allows you to find the limit of tire grip better, specifically with throttle and braking. Even without that, the audio cues help a lot, mainly if the revs remain consistent when you release the clutch, it usually means too much throttle and adjust accordingly. Now it seems like that input sensitivity and skill buffer is gone

I race the Mercedes W12 all the time in iRacing which is what I use as my baseline for an F1 car in a sim. That car can be challenging but it certainly does (to my non f1 driver brain) what I would expect an f1 car to do. I feel like I can really race it. The past 4 official F1 games have felt very weird. You have to be stupid careful getting on the throttle and it feels like you aren't really driving a race car but just carefully following the track. Downforce always feels off and you can spin it in 2 seconds. I have not bought 2022 because it just didn't seem worth it this year but if they continue to change their traction models and maybe take a look at downforce I'd consider grabbing it. I think it's a positive change to the game. Knowing how accurate the W12 is in iRacing the fact that I can barley drive the official F1 game cars says a lot in my opinion. Not hating on the F1 games they are a lot of fun just my opinion on the cars themselves.

I think anything they do to make the game more realistic is the way to go. This is a racing game not forza it should be more focused on the sim side or racing games and I feel like most people that play these games like f1 and want to have as close of an experience to real life as they can, we’ll at least I do

Step in the right direction. I feel that each F1 game should reflect the actual, real-life driving dynamics. If you play F1 2021, you should be faster in the low-speed stuff, and if you play F1 2022, you should be faster in the high-speed stuff.
