Grabbed some more merch today. I was wearing one of my stud pack shirts at the Ft. Pierce Service Plaza on Florida’s Turnpike and met a fellow viewer to the channel. He was a really good guy and it was fun sharing something in common with a complete stranger, while standing in line for our food orders. That merchandise is a good conversation starter. If I remember correctly, although there were many things wrong with the installation of the shower, I believe the biggest issue were the misfits along the ceiling line. How about a small marble crown molding to match the porcelain tile, or maybe even in a white marble or quartz? Looks classy, and all the gaps go bye-bye. And if the vertical corners are an issue, you could marbleize some quarter-round to match the tile, and then coat it with epoxy. Once again, it's Gaps-Be-Gone.

I repair machinery. I spent a whole 12 hour day on a machine and can't get it running because the customer didn't tell me it had the problems it had. I'm not exaggerating. I flew to St Louis, drove 3 hours to the ozarks, got a hotel room 30 minutes from the customer, then got there at 7am, and left at 8 pm. My wife had been in the hotel lobby since 3pm waiting for me, picked her up at 8:30pm, and drove to St Louis. Talk about a shit day. I get home the next day and get a text, "whats the next step?" This machine is like 5 generations old tech. It was originally $130k. I have replacement boards. 2 different boards, and two board of the same kind, different generations of that type. I tell them, I'll send them 3 boards which cost $1500 each, and a sensor that cost $300. Told them to try the sensor first. Told them to pay for one of the boards, and that I'd refund if the sensor was the fix. I next day aired the parts. 2 weeks later I get a text that the $300 part fixed it. 2 months later they text me, "Totally forgot about returning the boards, can you confirm your address?" I give them the address. 7 months later I get another text, "OMG, I just found the boards sitting here. I'll send them" 5 days later I get a tracking number and they arrive the next day. The day after they arrive, they ask me when I'm going to refund them. I look at the boards. I took pictures of them and added little dots with a sharpie in a spot only i would know about. They have stickers on them with a serial number, but I wanted to be sure. Sure enough, one of the boards was not mine. On the iphone you can look up pictures based on a location, I look it up and sure enough, the board that was on their machine when I left was the board they sent back. I was soooo pissed. I looked at paypals return policy and it was 180 days. Thats a long time, but we were far past it. I answered them and told them that they had sent me back their board. I provided them with the evidence and they told me they weren't in the office but they would check the next day. I told them that the picture of the board they sent me was geolocated and was on both google photos and iphone cloud. That was 6 months ago, never got a return message..... I didn't ghost them, but I will never go there unless they pay upfront, and never send them parts like that again.

Glad you made it through Beryl. It passed through my area on Sunday I think and I was sick so I slept through most of it. I was shocked that our power didn't even go out. Glad to see that Jordan's power stayed on. I'm guessing the company that installed the porcelain walls is not the same company that fabricated the walls? Maybe let the installation company know you intend to file a complaint with the BBB for their shoddy work, unprofessional behavior, and lack of response. That tends to get them to call you back. If you paid for the install maybe you can at least get a partial refund. It sucks when things don't go to plan but sometimes you have to live with it. There were some mistakes on my bathroom reno but I made do with it and am not bothered by the imperfections. Have you considered putting the tile around the perimeter of the mirror or just under the edge but not under the entire mirror? Leaving a little space between the side of the vanity and the wall also gives a little more elbow room when using the lavatory. Ooh, the tile has a sort of 3D cube illusion now that its grouted. That looks neat!

Enjoyed seeing someone else installing a floating vanity like I did last fall. But .. I can't believe it happened. I actually did a better job of it than the Stud Pack guys, for one single time. I got the water supply and drains and cleanout located exactly right in that narrow access band of the 2 sink heavy AF cabinet. My first time installing this type of floating vanity. I still am wary of trusting it actually floating despite excess blocking (and plywood instead of drywall) under the tile - so I sneaked in a little hidden centre post.
@frugalcalvinist5 ай бұрын
You got lucky! I've put four Ikea Godmorgon floating vanities in recently, and every one needed plumbing tweaks. I think I've got the "double versus single"cabinets dialed in so that I know how much leeway I have with the drains. Pull that centre post out, ya chicken! Seriously, as long as you've assembled the cabinet properly, it'll be fine. You need to look at the whole thing as a fulcrum and lever. I use GRK screws, which have overkill shear, on the top, and all the other forces are pivots away from the wall. You'd have to exert enough force to rip the screw head through the actual cabinet before it would pull out of your blocking.

Well at least you considered the right decision which is to rip it out. who cares if you're set back 3 weeks to a month and in cost! you have lipstick on a pig when the rest of the project is a precious pearl! If my contractor gave me that, we'd be done, I wouldn't care what it cost me. By the way, gorgeous job on the black hex wall tile. Stunning 3D effect when you backup

Pragmatism. The cascade of things needing to be redone, as explained by Paul, for the sake of what is really a cosmetic issue, makes replacing those wall panels not worth it. The heated floor materials alone are probably $800. If it was something that effected the longevity or compromised the structure somehow, that's a different kettle of fish. There is a vendor in my area that sells a similar product, and I refuse to install it. Sure, it looks nice when there are zero issues, but my vendor doesn't have fancy pants laser measuring tools (not that it's a guarantee anyway, as highlighted here), and I'm not going to attempt to install those massive panels. One misstep carrying those things can fracture off a corner. Boom; a huge chunk of profit margin just went in the dumpster. Shit, I get nervous installing $15/sq ft large format 24"x36" tile, which are $90 a piece.

@@frugalcalvinist --on a project the quality and scope of theirs--$$800, heck even 2K, and 3 months to complete--its a drop in the bucket, its virtually nothing

So Glad you guys are safe. My sister lives in Galveston and luckily didn't receive any damage, but has no power as well. Only 56 States? When Obama was running for President he said he'd been in 57 states and had one left to go, Alaska and Hawaii. I guess we've lost a couple since then.

a couple things might work for the Ptrap 1 if the sink is high enough and the stub out low enough put a 90 on pointing up then a santee pointing toward drain with p trap on top of santee at proper height for an aav because it wouldnt be vented properly 2 optional modification put the trap close to the wall where you cant see p trap from the door way or away from the sink then use an offset tailpiece like is used on ADA handicap sinks so trap will be out of view closer to wall

27:25 if you stare at it, its kinda has a cool 3D look of stacked "Q*Bert" cubes rather than the 2D hexagon look you were originally planned.

@10:35 I don't think Stanley makes those push drills anymore. I still have one from the 1980s in my shop. I had no idea it was called a Yankee. I have another Stanly ratcheting slim profile 45 degree angle screwdriver called a Yankee. It comes in handy for Ikea furniture with Philips head screw thingys. (Camber locks?)

I love that wall tile. What a great look. Hang in there the shower, even with the areas you don't like will grow on you. Keep up the good work.

What was the name of the company that you purchased the porcelain shower from? I want to make sure I never do business with them.

I like how the one corner tile pulls a snowflake pattern from the wall, that's kinda cool. Also I love how well the tile complements the shower. Your team has great taste! Can't wait to see it finished!

When you're using a hole saw on finished material (like the vanity) put down some blue painters tape to cover what you're cutting out to prevent chip out and get a much cleaner cut!
