Stunning achievement. Interested to hear about your training etc. My rather piffling longest ride was the Marmotte in the french Alps, 180km and 5000m, finishing with the Alpe d'Huez. Wasn't quick, but then I was 54 and had a relatively short training régime.

My longest ride is 52 miles and I have a 1973 univega viva sport which out of the 10 gears only 6 of them work and non of which are for climbing. I hope to go back and attempt it again when I get a better bike.

As many have stated, this was truly inspirational. I think there will be a lot of people using this as motivation to help them through their next efforts, even if they're a fraction as difficult as this one. How did you manage descents in the pitch black? Did the van lead they way or did you have to ride the brakes the whole time. I thought your first Tour Des Stations was incredible, but this is incomprehensible. Congrats!!

I followed Ollie on the semi-live map and tracking provided by the organizers and I was stoked when I learned that he finished 6th. This is massive, and the physical and mental endurance required for this is mind-blowing. Total respect and inspiration.

Absolutely MASSIVE achievement! The physical and mental strength needed for this is just insane. Bet you cursed yourself an infinite number of times for taking on this beast of a ride :D Also surprised to see how light you packed! It seems you don't struggle with the cold during the nights and during the rain. I did the superfondo and can't even begin to imagine how much harder this is. KUDOS!!!

Well Done Ollie, Epic is an understatement. I came to Verbier from Australia this year to give the Ultrafondo a crack. I made it to 225km before the clock and my legs beat me. It was tough. The 1000km is just brutal. Congrats to you and all the other 1000 and 500km riders.

What I absolutely love about these videos and documentaries of these insane challenges is that there is no sugar-coating how difficult it is and the struggles the presenters are going through. They do a good job of inspiring whilst also pressing the point home that there are going to be times-some really long-where you are going to find yourself in dark places both physically and mentally. And when you've hit your limit, there is no shame in tapping out so you can recover and ride another day. Chapeau, GCN.
