Pretty sure the idea of maces for presets came from priests being “unable to spill blood” so slashing/stabbing weapons that caused the opponent to bleed violated the tenants but breaking their bones doesn’t spill blood Edit:Apparently this came from dnd lore (thanks people that replied), which makes sense given 1. im a dnd nerd and 2.Dnd def inspired runescape to some extent
@fish39779 ай бұрын
for the record: this is an ahistoric claim. the best explanation I have found is that the creators of DnD were inspired by their time's pseudo historical and flat out fantasy portrayals of warrior priests using hammers (Bishop Tilpin is named by name. Story goes that they refused to fight with a sword as "one who fights with a swords, dies by the sword")and like many other of their conventions, it just stuck. the "no spilling blood" seems like a post hoc rationalization and modern myth making. However, banning bladed weapons from clergy can easily make thematic sense as swords have often been a sign of class or wealth where as a walking stick or a mace / scepter is easy to fit into the image of a priest - warrior or not.
@SYCPrescott9 ай бұрын
@@fish3977 Maces in general have been used ceremonially in many cultures starting in the Neolithic. not really a big leap of thought to go from carrying a ceremonial mace to carrying a functional one.
@fish39779 ай бұрын
@@SYCPrescottalso it goes the other way e.g. maces becoming scepters / ceremonial maces (no idea what the difference is tbh) and apparently they are still used in some flavours of christianity (which is clearly the inspiring religion for clerics). Wikipedia also says that "In the Roman Catholic Church maces used to be carried before Popes and Cardinals. They have long since been replaced with processional crosses."
@Joural04019 ай бұрын
@@fish3977the real answer is that priests were incredibly powerful and so Gary and co came up with a justification to limit the weapons they can use. It's just a limitation they found cool that makes priests significantly weaker because they can't use swords.

When you went to Vannaka for your 10th task instead of Konar or Nieve I was dying of laughter.
@asquil78058 ай бұрын
It makes some sense - the reason he wanted slayer points is because he didn't have points to skip tasks, and Nieve and especially Konarr are way more likely to give a task he would really want to skip than Vannaka.
@runelt998 ай бұрын
@@asquil7805 But he did. He had enough points for 1 skip. This means even if he was conservative, he could have picked a Nieve task, if bad then skip and do one at vanaka just in case. Or he could have gambled the second task not being awful. Considering that he got Kalphite task right afterward, I doubt he would have lost. 10th task from nieve would also get him 60 points meaning he could skip next 2 tasks with ease. Considering that he ended up getting a Nieve task next anyway... Yeah... Him doing Vanaka as 10th didn't even help since skip costs 30 and with 50 points he had same amount of skips as before.
