Cody, you've been amazing. I saw the numbers and results and I'll leave you to discuss them, but this represents the huge amount of work and consistency you've had over so many years. You literally inspire me to get in the pool and churn out the laps. Thank you.

one of the saddest things as a swimmer from another country is to think that if those swimmers that got 3rd to 8 would have been from other countries, they would have easily be leading those countries olympic teams.
@luksacvetko23075 ай бұрын
I wouldn't look at it that way, the swimmers that get top 8 at us trials have been training through much better conditions than swimmers from other countries, and are part of a much more developed sport when it comes to swimming, attending different training camps through their swim career. The even playing field for athletes from other countries being the NCAA where they get to experience that type of conditions and train with those type of coaches for the first time. Coming from a different country myself that is less developed, the US are light years ahead when it comes to swimming, and their facilities with combination of great coaching staff create champions for a reason.

@@luksacvetko2307 Exactly this. US has this as an entire industry with major corporate backing (e.g. Nike sponsorships, Speedo sponsorships, etc.), and they have a well crafted pipeline of cultivating talent from their teens to peak years supported by colleges. Even athletes from many smaller countries are the ones who actually live in or go to programs in the US, and for most intents and purposes only have a passport relationship to the country they represent. Coupled with the US's behind-the-scenes power in eliminating competition (Russian women's figure skating was leagues beyond the rest of the world so one negative test and their entire program gets banned, while the majority of winners whose Olympic medals are stripped away due to doping come from the US but we keep the pointing the figure at others), meanwhile US athletes are able to take "legal" performance enhancing drugs only accessible to them while those that are accessible to people in other countries are deemed "banned substances" (see Maria Sharapova testing positive for a drug in a cough medicine that had been legal but suddenly changed due to US prodding around the time Serena Williams staged a comeback -- and how Serena was always conveniently medically cleared to take drugs that boosted blood oxygen levels), and the way they dictate play (most events get scheduled based on US prime time viewing regardless of where in the world, the Olympics are, so the US athletes are also able to better adjust). The playing field isn't fair, but it's not to US athletes who don't make the cut off.

Where we live, in Missouri, the COMO meet is just like you said. Try watching it sometime. Its jyst like you said for many swimmers. Club competative and HS.

i love that you had fun and enjoyed this meet. I think that in itself is another goal crushed! Its hard for elite athletes to have fun when they are "on" .. some athletes cant remember full meets outside of their own performance because they are so locked in.. the prep and self analyzing.. and then its all over in a flash..and more self analyzing.. im happy you got to enjoy it and really experience it in such a sweet venue. Thanks for all you do cody miller! You inspire and teach millions! Keep letting that light shine! We love you ❤

Hello from Germany, or rather Belgrade/Serbia, where the European Masters Championships just finished. I had probably the same outcome as you, with the difference being catching a serious stomach-bug midway through the week, just before my main races would happen. So unfortunate und frustrating to deal with and basically nothing you can do to better the situation. I am still happy with everything around the meet and i was also more successfull overall than in previous years, so there is a lot to take home with me and look forward to in the future. I found your channel last summer and enjoyed every video to also take them as motivation to keep going in the water. As a swimming coach myself from a different country your "introductory" speech is so true and especially younger swimmers with high aspirations need to hear those words to understand what it actually takes to reach their highest potential. Thanks again for your content and i am looking forward to see your next adventures 🎉

9:31 -Cody, you mention your ‘season prep’ and the ‘race execution’ itself, that you wanted to analyse further. How about the taper for this meet? Back in my swimming days, I always found tapering such a tricky one to get 100% right. If the timing is just slightly off, it can ruin the hard work of a whole training season. Would be great to hear your thoughts on this once you’ve processed it all 🙏

USA Olympic Trials have always been extremely competitive, even when I was competing in the late 70s and early 80s. I wasn't lucky enough to make the team, but I was honored to just qualify . Then we had the 1980 boycott. I agree with everything you are saying.

It's funny how you never know how the race will be. Back when I seam 9 times a week and took creatine and had very healthy food I did good, yet this spring, with less than 2 swims a month (bc of work) and just regular food and no creatine I managed to set personal records in both of my heats! Beating my 5 year old records as 33 year old 😅 I decided to just have fun like you said earlier and it went well 😊

True, but that's the same at any trials - so the TRIALS are the hardest meet in world for any country not just USA

I would imagine it goes a lot of effort to keep maintaining the top condition physically, mentally and emotionally to be the Top athletes or Olympian Athletes while the world wont stop going around spewing good and bad influences from every direction. Plus all the travels, the environment changes, new locations, a lot to deal with.
@hakamag5 ай бұрын
Sad to think that for each event there are 6 USA elite athletes that don't get the honor to go to the Olympics simply because of their nationality, when every other country (possible exception of Australia) would just dream to have them. But more disturbing is to think that on some events where there may be no clear favorite, the athlete that got 3rd could've just had a bad race and, if not, he/she could actually have been the Olympic champion that year (specially true for modern sprinting events where races are being won sometimes by just 0.01s). And even more disturbing still is to think that because of their competitiveness, some athletes may have to plan their peak form for the Trials and not the actual Olympics resulting in some possible disappointing performances in the actual event, considering that the Trials are usually held 6 weeks before the Olympics. Generally speaking, a WR in Trials should not be a good omen... I'm curious how does USA Swimming handle this issue because the concept of Trials and countries who use them have been criticized in the past since they may be counter productive.
@MmCelliste5 ай бұрын
Other countries would 'dream' to have the swimmers who came 3rd-8th in the USA Olympic Trials finals? Well, really? Other countries have some pretty stunning swimmers of their own. Look at David Popovici. His 200fr at the European Champs was 1.41.13, while the winning time at US trials was 1.44.89; his 100 was 46.88, against 47.3 at US trials. Other countries have smaller populations, and swimming is a minority sport, but they produce athletes of outstanding calibre, and don't really require USA's also-rans, amazing as they are. As far as world records at trials go, if you can swim fast, you should swim fast. OK, you only need a top-two place to get to Paris, but it's also a test of what speed you can produce, and what statement you want to make. The WRs at the USA and Aussie trials sent out a message about how competitive the field is, and how high the standard is. That can only be a good thing.

Hey Cody! I feel like you told yourself over and over again to have fun, you forgot the warrior mindset. you need to have fight spirit in order to achieve what you wanted. Telling yourself to have fun and compete is'nt enough. Sometimes it's that medieval warrior mind that pushes you to the next level.
