He's the only KZbinr I've seen do sponsored ads that aren't painfully cringe - they keep in the style of the rest of the video, are self-aware enough to be almost a parody while not demeaning the product and, most importantly, are fun, unique and creative! Don't get me wrong, while I completely see why someone would do a sponsored ad, it seems to go hand in hand with either sell-outs, or it happens when people change their content and become less unique and funny (seen JonTron lately?) However, when someone (like Internet Historian) accepts a sponsoorship and then puts work and effort back into it to make it something more than just an advertisement that the audience can enjoy as a skit, then heg, I'd say that's hardly selling out!

In my class everyone made fun of this one kid for being a nerd. So when Order Of The Phoenix came out he made full use of his bookworm abilites (he read the whole thing in a couple of days. The rest of us kids needed A LOT more time with that book) and spoiled us all with Sirius Black's death. Looking back at it his revenge was more than justified. The poor kid got even more hate after that. Then of course we spoiled other classes about Sirius' death, unleashing a devastating chain, whole school got spoiled. It was brutal. Kids are terrible. Can't help but look back at those days fondly, though.

If you set your universe on the foundation of a child's story that was never supposed to go beyond a maximum of 3 books, you can create a story that's pretty wholesome and exciting, like the first book is. But that comes at the price of inconsistency later on if you change stuff up.

True, but something authors sometimes forget: there are many significantly more interesting things you can do besides simply killing a character you need out of your story for a bit. They can develop a health condition. They can retire. The thing that makes them inconvenient can slowly (or suddenly if you do it right) be changed. In this case, she could have brought him down to reality, where sometimes you can do nothing & you just have to live with it. That is arguably a more powerful message than death and one that we needed more than a way to process mortality. A way to process failure.

Here is a story for you. I worked at Barns and Noble. I worked in the back in receiving. When it was time for the third book. We had armed security. An armored truck brought the books to the back. It backed up when I was out compacting the cardboard. Finished, I walked back into the store through the one back receiving door and asked my manager if we had anymore palettes to dump and the rent a guard pulled his gun a foot from me, pointed it at my face, and started screaming and shouting at me. If memory serves, the half blood prince leak that was glossed over was less spiteful towards fans than it was depicted, it was meant to spite the publisher. The reason the spoiler got out there in the first place was because a bunch of preordered copies accidentally shipped out a few weeks early. One would wonder if the books were ready that much in advance, why sit on them at all, but that’s besides the point. The publisher found out about it and sent letters to anyone who got a copy demanding their return. These were not thieves, these were people who had paid in full for their copies and for reasons that had nothing to do with them, got their copies early. After several people refused to return their copies saying they were under no obligation to do so (because they weren’t), the letters became more threatening, and the parties had to bow to the legal pressure. However, to spite the publisher, a person who received their copy earlier and was threatened to return it posted the spoiler. Fueled by the story, it spread like crazy. I don’t remember the world ending because of it, because I assumed it was a lie. I actually attended a midnight release of that book and intentionally kept my mouth shut the whole time out of respect. However, once the book did get sold, I immediately flipped to the end to see if it was right, it was.

In comparison spoiling the story of a book doesn't cause harm or money and only annoys the fan. By this logic you could argue that the IPhone does more harm then spoiling a Harry Potter ending.

I remember when Deathly Hallows was released and some spoi Bois came to Barnes and noble. People had learned from last time and about 4-5 incel types wanted to just be trolling assholes.
