I think you're right about no other old tractors doing field work on youtube...not as old as your hart-parr! It makes me feel nostalgic and warms my heart somewhere deep inside...just to think it's doing what it was meant to do after all these years. If you think about it, all of American technology stems from Farm Machinery...the American Farm has been the test bed for so many innovations! For me, nothing connects me to the past generations more than an old tractor. Thanks for the video.

Wonderful old machine! I grew up with a RC 70, a 39 model.My Dad bought it at an auction in the late 60’s just to use for odd jobs, mostly it was our manure hauling tractor and run the silage blower. I always loved the sound of the old six cylinder on the blower! We also used it to power an 800 watt generator when the power went out(which was pretty frequent back then).One time in ‘74 we had a bad storm that knocked out the power for 3 days,that 70 and generator was a life saver! It would run for hours providing power to milk the cows, then Dad would switch it to the house so Mom could cook supper and we could all get baths then he would shut it off when we went to bed so it wouldn’t be left unattended, then get up early fill it with gas and it would be ready to go for another day!

Thanks for making the effort and taking the time to make a great video of this old tractor doing useful real work chopping corn stalks for you. It sounds as though she needed the work to get it in shape and running well. I can well imagine the difficulties of finding suitable spares for maintenance work such as that front seal, near impossible I guess! Well done and thanks.

Unfortunately about the only source of parts for those engines is new old stock and it can take a while to hunt down enough parts to major an engine.

I picked up one of these at an auction a few years ago. It's not pretty but you don't see many of them at tractor shows. Mine is on cut offs and rubber fronts. Electric start and lights. It's also got a Sears and Roebuck manure loader mounted on it. I have all the hood panels but the only thing missing is the grill screen in front. It was one of those tractors that ran when parked 40 some years ago so I am hoping it won't take much to get it running again. At some point the engine coolant froze and cracked the block. It was brazed up. If you know where I can get the grill screen I'd appreciate the info.

Its funny I fell asleep just before the music started playing. I had a few questions about this tractor. Like what year it came out. What year did standard pto come out. My grandfather had an oil puller and I don't believe it had pto and was much larger than this machine. This engine seems able to handle a good load of weeds without bogging. Thanks for the video and the old Oliver. If someday you got good on the lathe you could turn new timing gears with a fractional head device. You seem handy enough.

Normally we leave the stalks stand in the field because we cut fire wood and they have good traction with the ice. Then we'll disk before we plow. I guess everyone has a reason for what they do. Nice seeing the old tractor at work. Not vary often you see them working in the field just sitting in the barn or in front yards, one in a blue moon you'll see one at a tractor show or something like that

@NEAFarmKid4010
@NEAFarmKid4010 4 жыл бұрын
It was a radiator curtain. On the old machines like this one they didn't have a thermostat, so the curtain was your temperature control. The more you pull it up, the more it blocks off the radiator, which doesn't allow the air to cool the water as much, therefore keeping your temperature higher. Some tractors had shutters, which were used for basically the same purpose, except that they could be actuated manually from the tractor seat.
