in my opinion, you guys treat yourselves too harshly. It’s admirable that you hold yourselves to a high standard and we respect that. But the asanaband thing is a total non-issue. The problem nowadays is that youtube is now television, and that unfortunately means that people who used to shout vitriol to the tv in an empty room now shout it to a creator who is just doing their thing and trying to make people happy. Don’t let that shit get to you boys! loving the podcast, keep up the amazing stuff! - A longtime fan

I agree with this. I do feel that KZbin is almost becoming a TV replacement - say you wait a week to see the next episode of your favorite show, KZbin content creators often put out 1 video a day so you never have to wait that long. You only have to subscribe to channels you actually want to see, and it's free.

Yeah I basically had forgotten about the asananband until they mentioned it last episode

It's really interesting how stuff that was 'bad' and people leave a bunch of throwaway negative comments on mentally impacts them as this big, standout milestone of 'when we fucked up'. Like, within a week I've forgotten almost everything I've seen on KZbin.

I personally felt that it was an interesting experiment but, as they said, did not feel driven enough to post a comment. The thing that drove me to post this was the idea that they would be so affected by a vocal minority. Is it possible to look at unique commenters vs time watched? i.e. how many people are jumping on a bandwagon saying "this is awful" etc. keep doing what you do guys, it's your channel, enjoy it

I really enjoyed the conversation in this one. It is certainly different when becoming a KZbinr nowadays. For a start, gaming channels aren’t exactly popular with youtube now. There is however a need to hit that soft spot between being professional and looking like something someone could make in their bedroom. The main thing is the knowledge that it won’t last forever. Best to make the most of it while we can.

Hat Films, I absolutely adore the honesty and transparency you guys give. Smith, you remind me of a strange combination of my brother and myself. Your humanity is the reason I love the content you guys put out. Your ability to think of other people, other situations, and to analyze the world is something I hold deeply in myself. I love your natural curiosity, and I feel as if you can transmit your emotions effortlessly. When you feel happy, I can see it in your eyes, and when you feel dead I can feel that as well. That aspect of you is great, and I'd always be down to see more of it. I suppose I like that I can see myself in you. Ross, I feel as if you are a wildcard while at the same time an expert exploring his craft. You are a true mystery to me. I feel you embody the maturity of the group, trying to break down the aspects of your job and truly succeed while still trying to maintain your sanity. In a way, I feel you are the little brother of the group, tagging along as the others pull you with, but at the same time, you are an integral glue that counteracts the other two. Your cinematography always impresses me, and you have great vision. Trott, If I defined you in terms of DnD, you would be the face of the group. The charm you possess is enchanting, and your ability to befriend is incredible. You provide a counterweight for Smith and are able to pull the best out of Ross. You can switch on an instant from that youtube personality to a real person, and it is always the real person that I enjoy the most. Your creativity is inspiring, and I enjoy what you bring to every day. All three of you embody qualities that make a person great, each of you truly desires for a better world, and I cannot thank you enough for spreading that feeling. While I myself feel comfortable with life, I respect that you give other people the joy that gets them through the day. I will always be a loyal fan, based here in the US. So thank you for providing me with some daily laughter. Also: Don't worry about the Asanaband. I consider it in the same vein as an April fools day gag. If people still feel ruined by it, it is on them and not on you. Try new things, I'll still watch you if you stumble. I also consider Dr. Jesus Trott & Frap Away to be fun easter eggs to your channel. My Fav. series are when you play tabletop games, and in games where you can build such as trailmakers. I don't enjoy the hasbro board games as much, as I feel like I would only watch them for your personality, but I don't think they bring as much of your best qualities as other games would. Perhaps some more roleplaying with Mark?

I think one thing we can all agree on is Hatfilms have always been consistent, with not only their content but their fans. I respect the fact they've not "sold out" if you will. Ross mentioned Fornite a few times and sadly many KZbinrs did nothing but that which ultimately cost them their "loyal" subscribers. As Smith said any publicity is publicity never the less and they don't necessarily have a good relationship with their subscribers whereas every time you watch a Hatfilms live stream they know their supporters they know the people who enjoy their content... prime example is gabubu (excuse the spelling). The fact they've stayed true to themselves since the Minecraft days is inspiring and encouraging there are a few decent KZbinrs out there. Thank you Hatfilms you've helped me through a lot so thank you.

Hat films feels a lot like top gear. The day to day content has a particular formula (three lads play leisure suit Larry / Hammond drives a swanky car round the tack) and then every now and again they do a big blow out, special episode, but it's the trio that makes it so worthwhile.

In 2015 (after already being a longtime hat films fan) I moved from Michigan to Indiana for my first year of college. To make a long story short due to mental and emotional health issues I struggled to leave my room for the one semester I was there, I didn’t go to class, I didn’t eat, I didn’t leave my room. The daily hat films uploads and the streams helped me immensely with my homesickness and kept me laughing and smiling through the absolute worst time of my life. I think you guys are a bit hard on yourselves! You put your passion into what you do and it makes a difference in peoples lives! Which even if it came from being a “KZbinr” and isn’t inventing penicillin is pretty awesome:)

Just want to say something to you guys and I really hope you get to see this. I'm almost 22 now and I've watched you since the first episode of Skylands, when I was 14. You guys have been a part of my life most days since then, all your content from the various Minecraft series and trials and worms to GTA, amazing vlogs, and the original and also now new podcast. It's weird, you're like friends. What we have is like a one way friendship where you put yourselves out there for me to get to know but you'll never get to know me, which is fine. And no one else that I know watches you so I don't have anyone to share it with so it's just me who "gets" it. Anyway what I'm trying to say is honestly and sincerely you have a place in my heart and mind and if the day ever comes that you stopped making content I am certain I'll shed a tear (and I'm not being melodramatic there). At the end, if it does ever come, I imagine a montage from your Skylands opening through all your content and see it chronicling not just your channel but my life too. It's a funny old world we live in now. I'm so glad I can always come back to flicking you guys up on my screen and knowing I'm in safe hands. Knowing I can chill out with my one-way friends for a while. Apologies for rambling, and just as an aside I do have actual friends too dw about that. You fucking deserve to know how much of an impact you have and I'm sure that internalising that is essentially impossible for you, but if reading something like this ever helps you do it then I'll have done my job and hopefully given your the tiniest amount back to what you've given me (not including the merch money spent too). Love you boiks, keep doing you. - Another longtime fan

I could basically type an essay talking about all of the things you've addressed in this, and honestly I can't be bothered. I love watching and/or listening to you guys and what you said about the conditions in which people leave comments really hit home. I almost feel bad for rarely commenting. I do try to remind myself that you guys are just 3 guys trying to make a living doing something you enjoy. It's difficult not idolising someone you spend so much time watching. I met you guys once very briefly at comic-con, and I was pretty star-struck and nervous. I was surprised by myself, because it's a little illogical. I never saw that reaction coming. Anyway, keep doing whatever it is that you enjoy most guys and hope the hard work pays off in relation.

A small critique, but due to the proximity of the mics to the table, you can hear when someone knocks on the desk. It's just a bit jarring for me and slightly distracting from the conversation. For anyone trying to figure out how to get the podcast onto a mobile app like overcast or pocketcasts do this: 1) Google “rss to opml” and click on top result “opml generator” 2) copy paste the RSS feed link from description and click generate. 3) open that file into your podcast app of choice. I did this on iPhone using safari and it worked. If you’re on pc you’ll have to email the generated file to your phone. Then on your phone press the share button and click copy to [podcast app]. Hope this helps

It's the interplay between the three of you, the respect you have for us, the honesty and frank conversation. You guys are part of my daily routine and I would never change that. You make me laugh and think and listening to you feels like being a part of something, a group of friends say. Although I'm just a spectator you all seem so familiar to me and it's what keeps me coming back everyday, it's so easy to simply forget that the viewer to youtuber relationship is just a one way thing, for the most part, which is I think why comments are infrequent.

As a small KZbinr myself, I appreciated hearing your guys' insight in KZbin. I've been going since 2013, so just a couple of years less than you. I was hoping to hear a bit more about being a gaming KZbinr though, because I feel like a lot of the other channels you mentioned have completely different content to Hat Films.

Lot of people on holiday at my job at the moment and i'm pretty much on my own looking after the broadcast graphics side of things for multiple big company like Sky, ITV, Disney, The BBC etc and it's pretty damn stressful this week, but it's been really nice to stick these 2 Hatchats on in the background and listen and chuckle away whilst pulling my hair out at work. Much appreciated from the content boiks, hopefully you are enjoying doing these again as much as we are enjoying watching them

I definitely prefer this format of podcasting over the previous one, i.e one (main) subject over segments, because previously the segments tended to become stale and felt a little forced at times, personally speaking of course. I had no idea you guys read comments as much as you do, I'm defintly going to start leaving more comments to show support and also constructive criticism & feedback. Listeing to a full conversion is much more satisfying and interesting. 80k so quicly is great and I'm super glad for you guys! Very excited that you guys brought back the podcast. I listen to podcasts regular while doing long distance blood runs hospitals. I dont intend to come by overly critical either. However, especially when casual comversations accur in podcasts. Every will talk in a hushed more intimate tones. With that mouth noises can become heavily more intensified and disruptive. You try to focus on the subject and view point of the speaker. Then have to forcibly turn down the volume to moniter the audio. I know Trott suffers from this and you have experience with backlash from mesophonic individuals. Often these products are to relax and maintain concectration during very essential repetative tasks and fields. This can be a ramble so ill will try to cut this short. The less you speak directly towards a microphone. And intigrate a muffler. The better clarity is achieved by the listener. Also, some podcasters will rinse with mouth wash to help clear tackyness allowing for a better free flow of speach. Im hoping to incorporate this into my regular cycle of pods. Just letting you know to help the digestability of the content. Love you guess looking foward to whats to come. Also, you may like "Penn's Sunday School", don't worry its a athiest podcast. However he is a former Carney talker and loud vocal presence in his and tellers magic show. The audio in that content is constantly needing monitoring and the like for such sounds and its just the dynamic of using microphones. Each audio input is the same relative distance as the ear of the listener. So it just a casualty that gets adopted when you relise you dont have to work so hard vocally to communicate.

I even kinda stopped watching the yogs besides triforce but hat films have stuck around and will continue to. I don’t know what I’ll do when these lads stop making vids

I really like these podcasts. I've gotten more into listening to videos during the morning commute rather than just music. Always enjoyed listening to y'all talk in this manner. Keep it up

I've been watching you guys since the beginning and I think y'all have done a tremendous job keeping true to yourselves and your audience. Loving the new podcast format, by the way. I work from home and travel a lot and podcasts are awesome to fill empty time. See you guys in episode 3!

Man I am loving the podcast so far guys! It's cool to have content from you guys that's not necessarily centred around gaming and I'm really enjoying hearing your opinions and perspectives on various topics. Keep up the great work!

@49:30 (Seriousnesses aside) "I wanna be cool like that guy who's jumping into a pool that's on fire and he's using a bike and its insane" Literally the Stunt Lads intro XD

I think that the whole 3 yogscast members forming a podcast is a really good niche you've built, definitely the unique factor that will push you to 1 milly.

What you guys said about comments and people only commenting if they feel strongly about or against something got me thinking a little and thought i'd post an appreciation comment. I've been a fan since around 2012 ish and I can honestly say yours is the only channel I've consistently watched since then, I love the content you guys make and it's been cool seeing you three and the channel grow into what it is now. I never comment on and often even forget to like videos, sometimes I genuinely just don't think about it, but that's definitely not a reflection on my opinion of the channel. And since I've recently gotten myself into a stable job i will be doing what I've been wanting to do for a while and head on over to your patreon ;) keep up the great work, hope to get the chance to meet you guys one day.

I hope you guys read this. I've been watching your stuff since skylands and there's never one video I don't enjoy from you guys. In my book you can't do anything wrong. These podcasts are especially brilliant as you are the reason I keep watching, no joke my number 1 channel ever since I started following. Please keep it going as much as you are still enjoying everything. Big fan of the way you keep it as really as you do ❤️

It is a little strange but over the years I guess I have started to see you guys as friends. I look forward to your videos even though we don't see eye to eye on everything. I sort of feel like we're all just hanging out.

I've always loved your content! I wish you guys could do more of what you want without having to worry about view or monetization. Just know, that the reason I've always wanted to watch you all is because of your humor, conversations, witty banter, etc. As long as that doesn't change, you'll always have my views. Thanks for the many years of wonderful videos!

MINECRAFT BOYS! I remember those days. They were fun, silly videos! But I appreciate what you as a group have grown into, and I'm always happy to see another video from you. Stay true to yourselves, keep sharing what you have fun doing together!

Really enjoyed this one. I'd recommend using thumbnails that stand out from each other and to not just use a reaction face in every one of them. That way, a new upload is more noticebale, it adds to the channel's esthetic and it makes the podcast more memorable. I'm speaking from my experience listening to the supermega podcast. I'd recommend taking a look at their thumbnails to see what i mean. To me, their thumbnails really set their podcast apart and it helps building their image.
