I wish I had a preacher like him. Thank you very much for recording and uploading the series. I want to finish all the series. It helps me to understand these OT books.

Oh my goodness. What a helpful sermon. So helpful. Alistair thank you for engaging with and wrestling with this hard text. I have been so helped. I have learned so much. The part about the immediate action of God in this case with the Philistines and how you pointed out that this was merciful really made me think. And things like stoning for people’s sins seem so mean to everyone today. But God was being very direct and straightforward to the Israelites (and to all of us in the future) by doing this. Zero tolerance. “This is the way I want my set apart people to live.” And now we aren’t stoned but we have the same God who will judge but is showing mercy in a different way. This is a helpful way to tell people I meet about the God of the Old Testament. Thank you Alistair! You help and encourage me so much. You are so un-cliched. I really value that. You think it through (with God helping you of course) and make it your own. It’s not just a intellectual activity for you. It goes through your head and through your heart. And what comes out is beautiful and helpful. It is mixed with “you”: stories of the queen, and Scotland, Paul McCartney and Paul Simon. I love that. So not boring. Pastors should not be boring. I can only afford to give Truth for Life $10 a month, but it is gold to me and you have my prayers.

This sermon was uploaded 3 years ago, and am struck by what pastor Alistair says about Queen Elizabeth's coronation and that she was the defender of the faith. Fast forward to today and the Queen has passed away. Charles is now king and there will be another coronation and vows made. Will definitely be listening closely to the words of that ceremony, when it eventually takes place.
