This video perfectly puts into words of how I have been feeling lately (and I am sure a lot of other freelancers have been feeling as well). Self doubt and unsure if we should continue fighting to be in this industry and becoming successful. There are so many things to worry about as an adult; relationships, running your business, taking care of your mental health, working out, etc. it is very easy to feel like the pile is always getting bigger and their is no light at the end of the tunnel. But I think just remembering that there is always a calm after the storm, to help push us to keep going to reach those difficult goals that aren’t always easy to achieve. We need to become uncomfortable with being comfortable.

Bro, I truly never right comments on KZbin videos but I cannot express how grateful I am for this video. This could not have come at a better time for me, I have been going through so much self doubt in my business and not getting the projects I wanted to get when I first got into video. But this has reminded me so much to just enjoy the process and realise that I am not the only one struggling with this. Thank you so much for making this video.

I just got laid off from a contract job that kept me at a good living (for filming) but still have another income coming in that allowed me to feel at ease, but at the moment it does feel like I am a failure. definitely needed this video to remind myself that sometimes its okay to take a step back and work on yourself, your craft and your goals that align with yourself. The feeling of giving up is always in the back of my head but it feels good that I'm not alone, this is the career I love and at times it will feel like its great and other times it will feel like its a lot, but balancing is the hardest part for sure. Thank you Carlo!

The whole contemplation of “I should be a painter, maybe I should become a bartender” was one I was having with myself for the past month. But I really cannot ever see myself doing anything else but filmmaking in my life, like you said, the grass could always be greener, I could work in finance, but those folks in finance probably want your job. Hence watering your side of the grass ❤

Thanks for sharing this - if anything it makes me feel not alone and that I can aspire to continue chasing the dream liek you do.

This hit home.. I think it's important to follow your curiosity if it's a constant thought in your mind. Mine has always been ecomm, its something I constantly come back to and get excited by the thought of pursuing.. Using the skills I have developed over the last 5-7 years to try something that I have always wanted to and to build a brand that allows me to be creative. Lately the parts of filmmaking I don't enjoy are starting to outweigh the thing'sI do enjoy. Looking at the bigger picture and into the future has been an eye opener for me, is the lifestyle of a DP something I want when I have a family and Kids..

Wise words! Yep! I definitely find myself with many roadblocks as a person considering what’s next after 20 years of a career that’s lost it’s lustre. I think that time is gone for me but there’s something to having focus for the future and remove distraction and get out of the mindset of looking for some easy mode. Nurture the goals and dreams I might have or might be actively formulating and go from there nurturing, not neglecting, the life I have around me now.

Dropping straight gems bro, love this variety of videos that you’ve been creating lately, it’s showing how well rounded you are as a creative because it’s rare to only have one avenue for expressing our creative thoughts and when money is involved, of course going for the money making niche is tempting. But it’s not for everyone. We have to embrace our story.

The distractions... They kill me too brother.. I think we service the NYC/NJ area. There are soooo many distractions in our everyday lives as business owners. As video production company owners, we can't turn off our computers and "unplug." We are constantly having to going to YT and the rest of the internet for ideas, only to become distracted. I'm right there with you! I read a book called "indistracable." Actually, it was an audiobook. It gave me so many ideas and tools to battle the distractions. Goodluck!

Felt you on the distractions part. Being realistic, much of my working day is spent distracting myself, and that comes from fear. I will always prioritise minor, irrelevant tasks over actual editing for example. But when I put my head down and actually edit, I get things done very quickly. Perhaps it's the fear that we need to kill, not the distractions themselves.

Just finished watching - thank you for this! You managed to put into words all the weight that was on my chest. I also think it's important to remind ourselves that some of these distractions, as long as they're positive, will eventually play a role in our business or creative journey in one way or another. For instance, you mentioned painting, and I recently picked up watercolors myself. Even though it has nothing to do with my work, it opened something up inside me. I found a new level of honesty with myself that I hadn’t reached before. It’s made me realize that I can truly become whatever I imagine. Just wanted to share and add my two cents. Thanks again for the inspiration!
