Baylan was described along the lines of "reasonable, even polite, until you stand in his way and no other alternative remains but to go through you" and I love that. He doesn't take pleasure in killing people, but he will do what he needs to do to finish the job and reach his goal. Like a true Knight of mediaeval times. Honor, respect, but merciless in combat when it comes down to it. And thats why Im loving his character thus far

I don't think Baelan is dark side user, in the fight scene at the start, you can see how Baelan is fighting with no visible emotion on his face, whereas dark side users always draw power from their emotions (usually rage or hate), but Baelan in that fight scene fought like a machine with these methodical, precise movements with no emotion at all.

He is more like a Dark Jedi which is just on the other side of a Gray Jedi, count Dooku became a Sith, so the force chart from light to dark is; Jedi, Gray Jedi, Dark Jedi, Sith. There could also be force users that have no training from either the Sith side or the Jedi side and are simply force users, often considered just a Gray. Since Ashoka had a good portion of her training as a Jedi, but left the order and continued developing her force abilities she could also be considered a Gray Jedi, they don't adhere to the Jedi code.

Makes me wonder a LOT of why he wants that "Power. Such as you've never dreamed." If its WBW, you think its maybe to stop the clone wars? doesn't strike me as a power hungry guy, and would make the killing feel less bad in his head because "it doesn't matter, their fates will be altered anyways when I accomplish my goal" Heartbroken being introduced to this character and knowing the wonderful soul who embodied him won't get to see the outcome and how much (I suspect) we will love his character and portrayal

I was hysterical with Baylan 🙌🏻❤️😄 just bare face, no helmets, just pure talent. Intimidating but charismatic at the same time. Confident without many crazy movements, just precise. Straight to the point. What a performance. He had it all. Height, presence, voice. I didn’t know about his passing as I was devastated 😢 the highest of his popularity, the most iconic enigmatic force sensitive Jedi. Ray Stevenson said in a interview how priceless it was holding a lightsaber. He left a HUGE void. 😢

I completely agree with you. I think that's why I like Baylan, Shin and Morrock so much. There is such a big question mark over them that I need resolved. Baylan is definately not complete dark side, but I don't know about Shin. She has the look of evil when she fights and kills. She is definately enjoying it.

I am hoping that Filoni does another Tales of the Jedi that focuses on Baylan from Padawan to Post ORder 66. Did he also know Qui Gon and Count Dooku? What was their relationship like? How did Yoda and the Council regard him. What were is interactions with Anakin? If he says Anakin spoke highly of Ahsoka, Baylan could've been one of those Jedi General types that Anakin respected enough to share info on his Padawan.

A shame that Ray left us so soon, because he portrays a very intriguing anti-hero by the looks of it: in a way he is not too dissimilar to Ahsoka, he just made different choices that lead him to a very different path (although I don't think he is a dark sider per se, at least he hasn't shown any indication as of yet).

In Master & Apprentice, there is the thought that Dooku was creating an alternative Jedi Order in the years between his return to Serenno and TPM. Rael Averross was tempted to join his old master. Perhaps some Jedi did join Dooku. In Legends, Dooku had a number of acolytes. Perhaps Baylan was one of them but left right before the Separatist Crisis.

My hope is that this story is about Ashoka exploring the Gray Jedi's point of view. Ashoka is not really a Jedi either. She left. dooku is the smartest of all Jedi, and I hope there is more exploration of him. I was hoping that Dooku tried to bring balance, but lost his way, because when he was in it, he didn't know where the center was anymore. That war change you and seeing death and destruction, help him lose his way.

I think the unimaginable power he is referring to is the power to change history. That’s why he’s helping find Thrawn at all costs, it’s the only way to understand and possibly gain access to the world between worlds. Ezra saved Ashoka, why couldn’t a master Jedi stop the war if there were doorways to every point in time?

The whole diplomacy before violence is also reminiscent of Luke in Return of the Jedi with Jabba. He tried to trade, bargain, and negotiate even while standing over the Sarlacc. But once all options were gone did Luke resort to violence. This clearly shows Baylan's Jedi upbringing.

If Baylan susvives this season, I would wish that Dave would perform an MCU-type replacement by securing George Clooney to continue this character's timeline. Clooney does bear a similar appearance, so it's not beyond belief unless there is a monetary roadblock.

I don't know about Clooney (or any other specific actor), but yes, just recast with a good *character actor*. Doesn't matter if he doesn't look exactly the same if he studies Ray's performance and gets the mannerisms right.

That's why it said in memory of Ray, I should've checked IMDB for who he was. I didn't think about it when I watched the show. It's truly sad to lose anyone in this life. Ray did not look like he was reaching the end. He had grey hair yea but there are many older people out here who are still fit/healthy and strong. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Baylan arrival reminded me of Luke Skywalker diplomacy then crossover Obi Wan Kenobi force magic tricks to finally the apoteose hall scene Darth Vader Rogue One. Force chocking. Also, the way Baylan opened the vault cell with the FORCE it was stupendous and wrapped up unlocking the chains. To take lady Morgan like a gentleman ❤ Hopefully Baylan becomes a FORCE ghost ❤️

They put that whole scene together at the end of #2, for them to just talk about Ahsoka the whole time. And pay attention to what Baylan says..."Her presence in the force is elusive...and her determination is...vivid". While Ahsoka has many feats to call "vivid" during the Clone Wars, what one would this man be using to refer to her as having a level of determination that would be admired by a Jedi such as himself...and remember that event 30+ years later? There can't be many, because she left at an early age. Maybe he fought with her and Anakin in the Clone Wars and watched them sack armies

I don't think he's talking about something she has done in the past but that he in that moment is reaching out to her in the force and while he can't feel her power that much(she is so powerful she is able to hide it) he can feel her determination. I also think the reason he doesn't want to kill her is because he can feel the dark side in her. Ashoka has walked the line between light and dark ever since she left the order. There are not many powerful force users left so it would be a shame to kill one that could give their order even more power especially when they can feel that she plays with the dark side on the regular.

@@alexn8795 Ahsoka isn't a normal force user though. In the beginning yes, she struggled with light/dark side urges, even turned to the dark side briefly, until she was killed. That was the last time the dark side flowed through her. When she was resurrected by the Daughter...she became pure and stays pure. That's why the Morai still follows her around and looks after her. The force even sent Morai to Ezra to save her...if she wasn't 100% pure in the light side, the force would never do that, nor would Morai follow her. Go back to the trailer, where Baylan says to her "Anakin spoke highly of you". That means that between Ahoska leaving the order, and Anakin falling fully, Anakin and him talked about her. Most likely her defeating Maul on Mandalore. She beat a Sith Lord...trained by one of the most powerful Sith to ever live...and she did it without killing him. There's no way in hell Baylan stands a chance against her, and I think he knows it

What if he was learning nightsister magic from her as payment of that wants more power from the new galaxy and that's just one of his motivation as well. It's heartbreaking....Stevenson was perfect for this role and I knew the character was going to be nuanced the first time I saw him. He never got to see the full effect of his character. Or the fact that he portrays it so well we'll be discussing it for a long time after. I know there is going to be a lot of division over whether or not the character should continue if he survived the season. But personally I think it should. You can tell he put a lot of thought into his portrayal, the character meant a lot to him, I think he would WANT to see Baylan live on.

I only found a difference with Count Dooku. The element of fear. Baylan is 100% faithful within the FORCE like Qui Gon Jinn meditation before accepting his fate with Darth Maul. I can’t imagine Baylan dying with the scare looks of Dooku. In that sense Baylan is strategically similar to Obi Wan Kenobi “if you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.” ❤

2 things…. Ezra used the dark side for some time while Caleb dume was learning to be blind. He let go of it but maybe went back to it to survive with thrawn. Baylen may have been plo koon apprentice (too many wolf references and feloni loves plo) so perhaps he was part of recruiting Ashoka ?

I think Marrok might end up being the one that kills Baylan. Whether that is how it was written before Ray’s death or it’s something they are forced to do, I don’t know about that. Hes not a Sith. He has no inherent hatred for the Jedi he just views them as closed off, blind, and nieve. So someone like Ahsoka who straight up left the order is probably someone who he sees a lot of himself in, he recognizes the strong ally she could be, he recognizes that she could could be friend. I really hope they delve into the beliefs they share and the reason why theyre still fundamentally different even though they could both be united as Grey Jedi if they actually had the time or the proper opportunity to speak.

I'm of the opinion that Baylan is something other than Jedi or Sith at this point in his life. Maybe he found a middle road. It was an obviously sensitive point that he loved the idea of the Jedi Order, but not its weakness. On the other hand, much of what he says goes against Sith doctrine as well. In battle, he's exacting and fights powerfully, but thoughtfully. That emotion and thoughtfulness made him most intriguing to me; there is a part of Baylan that's saddened by the past, caring of others (to an extent), and wise. Between his actions and his appearance, I'd say he seems to me like a medieval knight, but also very scholarly. His passing is so sad, especially after he left such a mark on the tapestry of Star Wars. I hope that his memory will be honored with a fitting sendoff.

Baylan and Shin's relationship doesn't seem straightforward. She seems to be powerful, but taken aback that Baylan hasn't told her all the secrets yet, or even the role of witches and the purpose of the map quest. She looks for approval frequently. Seems insecure. I'm looking forward to this!

My guess is that he is former Jedi who survived order 66 but became traumatized by the fall of the order and fell to the Dark Side. He might be another Dooku who feels the Dark Side approaching but in his fear of it has already fallen to it.

What Feloni may or may not have thought about Baylan's future was likely altered by Ray's death unless he already dies at the end of this season. I don't see him making the same mistake that they did with Carrie Fisher.

Dooku was brought up in Andor when Christopher Llyods character said he was a visionary. So he obviously had his own mass of followers in the galaxy, and also has anyone read the Darth Plagueis novel? Dooku didn't like Maul for killing Qui-Gon and he was heard in the novel asking Palpatine questions he saw right through him and knew he was a Sith. Also in that novel it was actually Obi-Wan who Darth Plagueis and Palpatine wanted. Well Darth Plagueis wanted him, it will all change when we see The Acolyte and how Darth Plagueis will probably never have actually died. I have a good understanding of how they a running this, and many people here will know Darth Plagueis was instrumental in everything.
