The highest quality metal genre is whatever you view as high quality. Simple as that.

There are no good or bad genres. There are only good or bad artists in these genres.

I just hate how thrash gets no love. I know a lot of people think it doesn't deserve to be listed as a high-quality genre nowadays, but there is so much good thrash from back in the day. And in terms of new wave bands, there are absolute gems out there like the first 3 records of Ultra-Violence, Hellripper, Phronexis, Asidhara.

For sure! And I love and grew up with a lot of thrash. I think in general, it also comes down to SO much of even thrash metal blending in really hardcore to each other. I'm a big fan of the big four, and the German scene and Testament's one of my favorite bands, but even as someone who really loves (and sees a lot of thrash live shows) thrash metal, it's a lot of times hard for me to justify how stale it is if you listen to a LOT of it, even if it's from the classic era. :]

Putting industrial metal and melo death over death metal is insane
@TheMetalTempestYTАй бұрын
That's fair! I think a lot of it comes down to due to me listening to so much damn music, I hear a lot of really crappy, middle-of-the-road death metal that do zero things interesting to make anything new or unique and just try to mimic the past. That's my take on it, though--not the gospel hehe. cheers and thank you for the comment!!!!!!!

Speaking to your good old Heavy Metal songs in 2024, the Accept song “South Side of Hell,” was fucking awesome.

finally you said names of my favorite metal bands... (but then I am upfront, Gothic, Industrial, and Metal) ... Yeah Sometimes I just need a 90s Industrial Metal band to get through any depression I might be feeling.

Love the love that black metal is getting lately. So many great records in this category, it's so evocative and has such a far-reaching influence especially today

You said you love Atmospheric Black Metal. One of the best bands in this genre is Vallendusk. Check them out. For Melodic Death Metal, check out Frantic Amber. They are an all-female band from Sweden. They are similar to Arch Enemy. For Grindcore, check out Torture Pig. Another high-quality Metal genre worth mentioning is Viking Metal.

well I personally don't care for Death Metal and later Black metal .., I adore NWOBHM , classic metal , ie early Priest and so on .., love early speed and power metal , especially from Germany . Love the early thrash and the roots leading up to the birth of thrash . There is still good metal done today , but I argue most of it comes from the roots of early metal and revives it , adds a new spin to it . I argue however that when it comes to " quality " I always reach for the authentic era , say 76 to 86 ?! In other words give me Saxon , Maiden , Priest , Tygers Of Pan Tang , Raven , OverKill , Venom , Testament , Megadeth , Exodus , Kreator , Annihilator , Sabbath of course , Helloween , Accept , Scorpions , HellHammer , Anvil , .., and so many more , I think you get my tastes ? ;)

I don't disagree with Death Metal not being included, however I do think that this is a case where we should elevate some sub-sub-genres into being their own subgenres outside of their original subgenre. It sounds complicated but its something we kinda do already: Death Metal is so vast is almost generic but if I say 'Melodic Death Metal' you probably wouldn't even associate most bands on that sub-sub-genre with the original older Death Metal acts given that it's almost as old anyway (5-6 years on genres that have been around 30+ years its kinda not that much tbh) so in regular conversation, we usually refer to melodic death metal as kind of it's own subgenre distinctly separate from just 'Death Metal' altogether. I think metalcore is also vast enough that you could have named some sub-subgenres of it as their own thing as I don't think the average fan of Deathcore would even know about cro-mags and while technically both under the same subgenre it's so vast is basically non useful so the individual sub-subgenres basically raise to the level of their own subgenres as well.

I personnally wana give a S/O to stoner metal who i feel is often under appreciated in regards to the talents of the artists who plays that genre. The riffs are just so delish. Buuuut i will agree that most of the bands just sounds pretty much the same 😂

Highest - technical thrash metal. If you wanna play tech thrash, you need to be a good musician and songwriter. that means only the most passionate musicians play in this style, the lyrics are often very good, well fitting to the concept. The most popular tech thrash bands are arguably some of the best in thrash or metal overall( vektor, coroner, sasus etc.) and the underground is always producing new interesting bands with fresh takes on the subgenre. Lowest- nu metal. Barely any technique, awful lyrics, simple songwriting(short, conventional songs, there are barely any solos). Musicians in nu metal tend to be annoying and trendhopping. The underground is absolutely terrible, any nu metal below the surface is almost unlistenable.
