I noticed right off the bat that oshawott’s personality greatly resembled Dawn’s piplup and thought it would be incredibly entertaining to see them interact. I couldn’t help but imagine would piplup and oshawott be friends or rivals. I guess their departure shows that they were both. Instead, the writers made him a blatant rehash of Dawn's Piplup, angering everyone to a point where the writers are now banned from doing another "This Water starter does not need to fully evolve to get strong" premise. On top of that, the writers also tried to make the Tepig line be the Unova ace that is a Fire-starter abandoned by an abusive trainer, but even fans got sick of that stunt as well since Charizard and Infernape already filled in that spot.

I remember thinking oshawott was going to be ash’s first water type to fully evolve since it seemed early on they made him seem like he would be ash’s ace (like winning the first gym) but it seems they kinda made krookodile the main powerhouse by the end instead. I understand why though since samurott probably couldn’t pull off the same comic relief vibe and we got greninja the next series anyways, but it still is odd how few of ash’s unova team evolved.

Oshawott is the main reason why the writers were never allowed to do another "This Water starter does not need to fully evolve to get strong" since he blatantly recycled most of Piplup's characteristics. Not to mention that the staff tried to make the Unova ace another "Fire starter abandoned by abusive trainer" with Pignite, even though we already wrapped that story up with Infernape.

I've personally always had a soft spot for Oshawatt, both because it's quite adorable (even by starter Pokemon standards, in my opinion), as well as because it was always my go-to pick for gen5 as a starter. And while I am aware that a lot of people think that Samurott doesn't make the most sense as a final evolution due to how different it is design-wise from it's previous forms, I've always personally thought it looked like a cool and interesting Pokemon, and I'm also hyped for the new V Star card it's getting, which I think has a lot of promise. Overall, Oshawatt may not be my favorite water type starter ever, but it's still one that I personally think is a bit underrated

I really wish the writers made Oshawott evolve into Dewott towards the end of the series. It could keep the goofy personality, but have a newfound confidence regarding the scalchop and new moves. It could keep Razor Shell and Aqua Jet, but obtain new powerful moves like X-Scissor. Oshawott was Satoshi's also known as "Ash Kechum's" greatest Unova region Pokemon monster besides Pikachu and after the battle Oshawott vs Cesar the Dewott I thought Satoshi would have to and will release Oshawott but then a plot twist happened and Oshawott stayed with Satoshi also known as "Ash Kechum".

What Oshawott lacked in power he more than made up for in personality. Though I do wish he evolved into Dewott. Not only would he still be able to keep up the same gags due to looking similar enough, evolved Pokemon are taken a bit more seriously in the anime, so he could've won more. He really deserved to catch a break after all that bad luck lol. Also the love/hate dynamic with Piplup is even funnier once you realize they were both designed by the same person.

To update, as of the most recent episode, Oshawott made another appearance in which he helped train Sirfetch'd alongside Sceptile and Bulbasaur when Ash returned to Oak's lab. I like the sort of subtle implication that he's become stronger offscreen.

UNOVA is my favorite region, games, and series of all Pokémon series. The region has great starters but Oshawott is by far the best of all three. Of course... The Pokemon Equivalent of Brock. Heh. That Purrloin episode will always be funny, especially the ending. Oshawott may not be a great battler, but, like Totodile... They gave him one heck of a memorable personality. It's like the writers said... "Let's do Totodile, again... But with more battles... More romance... And add a little more development. I smell... Genius!"

Great review! Oshawott is my favourite Pokemon of all time and Ash Oshawott in the anime is probably one of the biggest reason why I love it so much He’s adorable, hilarious has a lovable personality and just all perfect and he gets some more screen time in the future. Although the only thing I wish they would’ve done in the BW anime is actually give him a female Pokemon to love him as well I honestly wished it would’ve been Emolga because while I really don’t like Emolga and found it’s personality to be obnoxious I have to admit that her and Oshawott make an adorable pairing and I honestly wished that had similar affections for Oshawott as he did for her besides Emolga was the first female Pokemon that Oshawott Fell in love with, Do you agree?
