Hey Patman, thanks for another well researched and smoothly narrated video. This is the first time I've heard you review a game you don't really care for, and I love that you give it the same attention to detail as the ones you enjoy. Your are fair and impartial, and I respect that. Wishing you well and looking forward to your next release.

@nemo pouncey Ah. You mean either DDV Shadow Falls or Double Dragon on NeoGeo I'm guessing? I think VS fighters were all the rage at the time, plus, DDV wasn't developed by Technos (DD on NeoGeo was though) but, by all accounts, DDV is pretty dreadful. Especially the Atari Jaguar version as it's actually a pared back version of the 16bit versions! 😅 Personally though (as if you hadn't guessed?) I do like the NeoGeo one though and it's unofficial sequel 'Rage of the Dragons' - a sequel where it was made but they were unable to secure the rights so they just reworked some of the names etc. Now THAT is an excellent game 👌
@NeoGeoNinja813 жыл бұрын
@nemo pouncey I did! It was good but, I'll admit, I was disappointed that it didn't just play like DD2 on NES, but with a 4 slapped on it! 😅 But it was definitely a pleasant surprise. I just seem to remember they made gameplay changes so, although it used DD2s visual style, the moves had been tampered with (hurricane kick, etc). I should probably mention that NES DD2 is my favourite EVER beat em up though (yes, even over SOR2). It was just so way ahead of its time with all those hidden special moves, crazy platform led stage design, incredible soundtrack and the often overlooked grapple system where you hold your opponent and then you can: 1. Throw or 2. Knee or 3. Elbow or 4. Blast kick em into the air. Still impresses me to this day ❤️

Whoever programmed the sprite movement, they made them move in these like 8x8 chunks. I wonder what the purpose of that was? Did they charge a lot more of the DD3 machine? He keeps saying "more money for Technos" but every setup I have ever heard up for arcades were operators bought the machines outright (and they were pricey) and then they took on the liability of recouping costs and making a profit by making deals with establishments to profit share the earnings from the machines when placed there. This means unless there was some other situation for this machine, unless they really jacked up the initial price for the machine citing the additional revenue options, the "micro-transactions" didn't mean more money for Technos.

Yeah, that's the way I thought it worked too. I think those features helped them upsell the machines to operators for sure tho. Those features are why arcades died, to me.

I liked that you could have three players in some of them with Sonny as the third, I think the characters that also were newly playable being twins was strange, I guess the future is just really populated by twins. The NES game title Sacred Stones made more sense, I'd read the creator picked the name Rosetta stones because he was a fan of a music group or album called Rosetta Stone. I suppose historically if Cleopatra let a royal cobra bite her in sorrow of Mark Anthony dying and at the same time the Harrower(s) tale of Jesus rescuing some of the people in the devil's lair opened a portal, used the translation of Rosetta's tablet rock to invoke a resurrecting spell, a wraith that takes the Egyptian Queen's form and shoehorn a dumptruck of Hell's riches into a pyramid. Might fill in the gaps of why they were investigating Marian and the tomb of mummies, ... No; Well fine anyone have a better explanation?

Very interesting, I never knew that about the creator.

I'm a huge Double Dragon fan, I will put in my honesty about Double Dragon 3 for both Nes and Arcade ports, even though it had the same name but different game, as a kid I hated Double Dragon 3 on both Nes and Arcade. The Nes port was too excessively hard while the Arcade port had really bad controls and hit detection same time hard difficulty which takes all the fun experience away in an unplayable game. Double Dragon 3 the Arcade game also had some controversies as well, it was the very first games to use micro transactions in quarters for an arcade cabinet, basically if you wanted new upgrades like weapons, power ups, continues, extra health, playable characters etc. then the gamer has to enter the in-game shop and pop in real quarters. Yes I said it here it was very controversial attempt for developers to get a quick cash grab of your hard earned quarters.

Yes, I talk about all of this in the video including the micro transactions. They were absolutely terrible

I know this is a bad game, but I was and still am trying to do a fanfiction based on it and The Combatribes but using Gravity Falls characters. The only thing I can defend about this game is basically the music. This game is basically what happens when a very small company such as TECHNOS tries to outsource it to other developers- you end up having a game that pretty much kills the series and makes the famous companies such as CAPCOM very popular.

What I don't understand in these computer versions of they constantly have arcade translations why didn't they make a special controller for arcade games. This only makes sense to me.

I wish I Had the answer. The Amiga was capable of using two independent fire buttons but for whatever reason they didn't programmers didn't take advantage of it
