The Extra Life could match Sonic in all his skills and abilities and was even able to almost defeat Sonic. But just who is the Evil Extra Life? How did he come to be and what was his eventual fate? Fleetway really liked to lean towards edgier interpretations of the lore. The Jekyll and Hyde dynamic of Super Sonic, the tragedy of Kintobor turning into Robotnik, even Sonic himself was rather, ahem, _prickly!_ I'm half surprised they didn't give the Rings some horrible secret 😆

Extra Life Sonic is basically Sonic's Alternate (for those of you who know what The Mandela Catalogue is). Like, he looks almost exactly like regular Sonic, but certain features are twisted and modified just enough for the resemblance to be uncanny. Kinda wish we got more out of Extra Life Sonic, as there's still a lot of potential for him to be a disturbing counterpart to Sonic.

I kinda like the concept of a game mechanic (1-UPs/Extra Lifes in this case) being turned into lore for a different but similar world. In the case of what the Fleetway Comics did, a second chance for someone being made evil instead of good only for it to get sealed up is a fascinating concept that I don't see that often. One of Nintendo's many magazines/comics did try something similar with Wario being a evil clone of Mario, but that idea was shot down faster than the Tornado and probably would cause many folks to get the wrong idea if Wario showed up in different games and other media. Imagining Eggman in the games experimenting with a 1-UP monitor/capsule and creating a near one-to-one clone of Sonic but with similar differences like Extra Life is actually kinda something I wish would be done in either the comics (which is unlikely given the circumstances) or the games, spinoff or otherwise.

Looks like Fleetway somehow found out about Sonic's Original Design before it got "softened" by one of the American Employees from Sega. The Fangs and the more "Wild" look that Extra Life Sonic has Resemble the descriptions given to us by I think Naoto Oshima... (Something tells me I might be wrong on this one, but I did hear this fact a long time ago)

My favourite 'copy' sonic character was Cosmic (I think that was his name) the green hedgehog who later turned out to be Metamorphia in disguise. I always loved how much he hit a nerve with Sonic and made him jealous.

If it was fight with fleetway and EL sonic it wouldn't go well for extra life because he's not that powerful, I say fleetway would win cause he's using the power of the 7 chaos emeralds and stress, the extra life is different. But if or what if the extra life could do the same? I'd be bad with a destructive battle.if they become friends they would of destroyed things together and 2 sonic would of been split up with fleetway like in the past, but sadly fleetway is maybe no more. They would be good friends your on to something!

In hindsight, with the way normal Sonic is drawn, Extra Life Sonic (or Decoy Sonic, as I'd like to call him), feels more like a parody of Western Sonic, in a way that he's drawn more exaggerated than normal Sonic, who looks closer to the finalized Japanese artwork.

As someone from the US, I've only learned of STC in the last few years, and had no idea it was so different, but it's got so many unique and cool ideas. I really dig the idea of Extra Life becoming this universe's Shadow at some point. I would imagine perhaps Black Doom (from the Shadow the Hedgehog game) would have found him in space and changed his DNA or something of the sort.

Idea for extra life Since he is one of the item boxes what if he got new powers from the shields box Fire element: he turns red and is able to shoot fire Electric element: he turns light blue and it's able to summon Thunder and shoot lightning. Also zap electricity Water element: not really sure about this one. Those are my ideas what do you think

Fleetway is the name of the publisher that made these comics. He only called it "Fleetway Extra Life" to differentiate it from the Extra Life item in the Sonic games.
