I’m now 55 years old and I have very vivid memories of this place and even though I lived in Leeds as a kid I visited at every opportunity I could even if it was only to come over on the first train out of Leeds and catch the last train back in the evening. I’m just glad I was able to experience this magical place as it has so so many happy memories for me. Thank you for posting this video ❤️

I loved going here as a child, then one day I went (probably the year 2000) and almost all of it was fenced off with no access. The only rides operating where a hanful of travelling rides and i can remember just the log flume starting up (possibly for the last time) years later I learnt the history of the park. Years of neglect to Morecambe by the Lancaster City Council, the closure of the bubbles fun pool, the ending of the Morecambe illuminations, the disaster of Blobby Land, the derilict Midland hotel and the general lack of serious investment in the town the BPB company decided to pull the plug, starting in 1998 closing the back section of the park and at the end of 1999 closing the rest leaving only a small section operating in the 2000 season, after that season the park was abandoned with everything either demolished in situ or rides removed to other parks across the country. The polo tower survived until around 2017/2018 as it served as mobile phone mast. The log flume concrete section still survives, and that's about it! Fun fact for many years, the litter bins at Southport pleasureland used to have bands around them, saying Morecambe Pleasure Park. Obviously, these disappeared when that park closed!

It’s a shame the park went away. It coulda been a nice small “permanent fair” type of place. At least the memories are there
@niallh8129
@niallh8129 3 ай бұрын
@Coaster_Cray_Cray yes it could of been a Southport type park, but sadly at the time Morecambe was seen as finished and there was no investment forth coming. Lancaster City Council had simply given up on Morecambe. Southport had people with vision and was able to have a much better outcome and now a successful operation even though it literally had to rise from the rubble....

This one comes to my mind every now & then. I was only there once maybe twice, but it was around the time I was getting interested in roller coasters. This was the early 80s. I was definitely on the Texas Tornado & Mine Train. Sad to see it's demise.

I still have a t-towel from Frontierland that has the price sticker on it and a baseball cap and pin badges never used or opened. My lasting memories of the place include sailing past residents' lounge windows on your log-flume boat as they stared at you and you at them! (a surreal experience for the rider). Racing through the trees on the Texas Tornado and crossing the promenade on your Skyride gondola - your feet seemingly millimeters from the passing double-decker buses and lorries.

Thank you so much, there is another on the way! So do I, it’s such a shame this place closed because I feel it would be such a fun little place to visit. Sadly though, I do feel the park would close either way if it survived into Amanda Thompson’s reign. Maybe they can bring life into the park again when Eden Project is built but I’m not too hopeful.

Most of the rides at morecambe were re hashed, the haunted silver mine was infact the scream machine, again which can be seen during conversion on my website, the film the entertainer was shot at Morecambe Pleasure Park, the rides in the film, AutoScooter, Cyclone and Rocket Ride. Fun City was a bingo hall before that an ice theatre and before that an aircraft hanger

My mother and father used to take both my sisters and me here pritty much every other weekend in the summers of 86-90, the wooden coaster was by far the best ride there, by the early 90's the park seemed to start to look run down and grotty. the stampede was horrid i remember the cars having sand bags in them.

Does anyone remember the Hard Luck Bears animatronic show that operated at the park?
@martinporter4980
@martinporter4980 Ай бұрын
Pretty sure that resided at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. There was a sign for it on a dividing “wall” on the left side boundary of the now defunct Virginia Reel wooden spinning coaster. I saw that riding it in July 1982 (oblivious to it being its final ever season then). I never went into see the Hard Luck Bears show but have been intrigued ever since. Loved The Reel though, such a unique coaster, and now completely extinct.
@PeterPumpkinEater75

@@martinporter4980 Hard luck bears was relocated to Frontierland around 94 I believe. The bears originally used the programmed show and music supplied by their manufacturer Creative Engineering however around 1982 Blackpool recorded their own audio for it changing the characters from American hillbillies to being from various parts of the UK. I always wondered if Frontierland used the original tape or if they too had unique show material

I wouldn’t have liked to have speculated what happened to the ride as I wanted to make the video more educational rather than speculative, and I couldn’t find a specific reason as to why it was removed.
