I am a rare Chinese guy who is truly a pure wrestling fan who loves Indy wrestling. I followed RF when he was selling tapes at ECW shows. While I don’t really like Rob I felt he is a fast talking swindler when I was browsing his tapes and saw I was a big wrestling fan that he would push me to buy more. I was curious so I spent $100 of his bad quality Japanese death match tapes. I had been to many ROH shows on his ownership and I was impressed with his shows. I drove to Philly and Boston to watch their shows and was always gone home happy. The best was the first show at the Elks with the big riot that happened. I don’t know if this was scripted back then but I was always on gone to run out of the building if something dangerous would happen. Well great talents came and gone. I must commend that RF did bought in lots of great talent in to the shows. And thus made this company a worth driving for and seeing it live. Today’s ROH is ok not worth driving out for. I lost interest in many of their no name talents but I was drawn back by bringing back some good japanese talents and bullet club. But I missed the good old days when Dragon gate guys and Noah guys came and made it watchable. Now no more dragongate here is sad.

SpinoDino I’ve been watching ring of ring of honor since 2012 and my first introduction to ring of honor was Adam Cole teasing his heel turn before he became Adam Cole baybay and Kevin Owens (steen) being kicked out of his own faction S.C.U.M. In favor of Matt hardy and the beginnings of the blood feud between hardy and Kevin and I knew right away I was hooked

SpinoDino Kevin is one of my favorite active wrestlers and I think he’s one of the best, and yeah I agree he feels like he had more freedom to say and do whatever it took to get heat and it’s too bad he’s not allowed to use his package piledriver that move alone would get the crowds attention

Since you’re such a ROH lover maybe you’ll enjoy this bit of insight. I don’t believe ROH can be called a Indy company anymore. They’re owned by a publicly traded company and have been pulling in TNA numbers for their PPVs back when TNA was on spike between 2008-2010. In 2008 no surrender TNA pulled in 3500. Their biggest that year was lock down 2008 with 5,500. Last year ROH best in the world pulled in 2,876 and ROH super card of honor 9 pulled in 3,500. Numbers like that are very good for a non wwe ppv in the states

@@DaveKnowsWrestling True. I guess what I meant to say is when did ROH hit its stride. Sometimes wrestling promotions take awhile before they hit their stride. Take ECW for example. If someone said that they wanted to get into ECW, I’d say that a good place to start would be in 1995, since ECW was very different during the eastern championship days.

To be fair the ranking system was always one of ROH's weak spots, as they were never able to keep it consistent. The Pick Six for me was the absolute low point. I thought the best ways to determine a #1 contender was always to just make a final feud match of a high profile feud a #1 contender's match and be done with it. Or when they had the Survival of the Fittest winner become the #1 contender.
@DaveKnowsWrestling6 жыл бұрын
I like that it was at least different. I agree that it was too inconsistent and I thought it was too contrived. For me it was just more of an "A" for effort kind of thing

They work slow and steady. Haven't taken huge gambles and tend to work within their means. Might mean that they're less well known, but they also haven't been brought to the brink of bankruptcy and ridicule that TNA has. Rumor has it that the Sinclair deal is what saved them at the last minute. I mean, they've lasted longer than their predecessors. That has to count for something.

Ι αctually don't like ROH, it's great wrestling but that's just what it is : Wrestling. We rarely see original promos or funny segments. Their promos mostly look something like this: Heel: I'm great, I win, you suck Face: You cheat, you don't have my respect Again I'm not saying that's a bad promo style but there aren't many original gimmicks. I mean there are some original stuff and sometimes funny but it's mostly a normal guy with a normal name fighting another guy with a normal name. Where are the Fashion police ? Shark boy (yes I liked that)? The Hurricane ? And that's actually the problem with most indie promotions. They're just pure wrestling and nothing else, no gimmicks and no characters
@DaveKnowsWrestling6 жыл бұрын
I do hear what you mean and I would prefer a bit more of that stuff too.. but Dalton Castle has great character work, so do the Briscoes and those guys are just some current. In the past El Generico and Steen were some of the best characters in wrestling
@Wurzelknecht6 жыл бұрын
Dionyssis Karkantzos All prejudice and misinformation. ROH had and has some of the best characters/gimmicks and storylines in American Wrestling ever since they started to exist. WWE hasn't had as good a story as the CZW Invasion, the original Summer of Punk, Steen vs. Generico, Jimmy loves Lacey or the most recent stuff with the Bullet Club since at least 1997. Seriously no gimmicks and no characters? The main booker of the show is Delirious, one of the most unique gimmicks of the past 15 years. How could there be no gimmicks or characters with a booker like that. Your Fashion police are SoCal Uncensored or Dalton Castle. Your Shark Boy is Delirious. Your Hurricane is the Villain Marty Scurll. And that's just the current cast.
@sumeetagrawal97087 жыл бұрын
I really think ROH has lost its luster over the years nothing on ROH TV today seems like ROH, it's all just very homogenised and kinda seems like a smaller TNA sometimes even the level of talent has dropped significantly, back in the 2000s there used to be epic 90 minute time limit draws and almost every top guy in the company could claim to be the best wrestler on the planet these days, except for a few, there isn't really a whole lot of really high calibre talent also, it has gotten too goofy, ROH used to be serious pure wrestling for the most part all these things have led to me stopping to watch it every week
@DaveKnowsWrestling7 жыл бұрын
I do hear what you're saying. They have begun to try and appeal to a more mainstream audience, which can happen with TV deals and corporate ownership. I think NJPW is changing too in a similar way. I think the Pure championship needs to be around. And I think a big problem is WWE gutting their roster.. especially when they won't use the guys they acquire well
@HonestUAWElectrician6 жыл бұрын
I hear you my friend. Discovered them in 2007. First DVD was Supercard of Honor II and a few months later went to my first live show, Motor City Madness 2007. Built up my DVD collection to 73 events. A lot of their back catalogue. All the Joe vs Punk matches. Any ROH title change, Id buy the event. I was excited when I seen them on HD Net. Then came Sinclair. Detroit doesn't get them. But keeping up with the promotion, you can see the gradual progression of the company. ROH still has the best wrestling in the US, but definitely more flash to it. Im glad I found this promotion when I did because you could see just how much talent was gonna be good to great. I don't follow the promotion like I used to, but still enjoy it every now and then.
