Or High Medieval era french/english inspired.
@haberak3310 Жыл бұрын
Even in Arthurian inspired works, that's more Celtic. The Anglo-Saxons were unfortunate enough to be prominent in the dark part of the dark ages, when writing traditions weren't as strong as during the classical era nor the medieval age to come. That's to say we have nothing of them, but more that they were too late to be legends and too early to be consequential history in their own right.

I think my favourite moment of Rohans history, is when Theoden grabs his sword and thereby awakes from his lethargy. I dont see violence as a good way to solve your problems, but this moment can be translated into our lives too. You know, sometimes in life we have to compromise and we accept those things that bother us but we cant change just in that moment. And we get used to this state where we just dont enjoy getting up in the morning anymore until the moment comes when you realize that you got enough and you have to commit your energy to fix all that crap. Theoden had this moment of awakening when he grabbed his old sword and remembered his own strength. Ofcause the moments when Rohirim riders rolling up the flanks of enemy armies are also great.

Eorl the Young died in battle. Brego died of grief after his son died (walking into the Paths of the Dead on a dare). Aldor had war, but died peacefully in old age. Fréa, Fréawine, and Goldwine all had peace and prosperity. Déor had war, but I don't believe that he died in battle. Nothing is said of Gram. Helm Hammerhand died in battle, as did his sons, bringing an end to that line. Fréaláf Hildeson ruled next, followed by Brytta. Walda died in an orc ambush, not battle as such. Folca died hunting boar. Folcwine's two eldest sons died in battle helping Gondor, but the king himself did not. Fengel was not a good king. Thengel moved to Gondor in his youth, and won honour there, returning to Rohan to be king when his father died. Théoden Ednew died in battle on the Pelenor Fields, his only son Theodred having predeceased him at the Fords of Isen. Thus ended the second line.

I was never big into the lore of Middle Earth until I found the Silmarillion, which changed a lot. From what I've read, Tolkien was not a big fan of connecting his own religion with his works, with Middle Earth, however I can't help notice the huge parallels between Tolkiens stories and the Bible. Mostly, the books of Enoch, Jasher, Giants and so on. The "Extra" Biblical books, that our kind, sweet Roman Catholic church conveniently left our of canon. If you ever get the chance, check out the Book of Enoch. In it, you'll see how the Watcher Angels revealed Eternal knowledge to Men in the beginning times of the Bible, including warfare, weaponry and smithing. Also it's said the Angels revealed martial arts, fighting techniques and black magic to Men as well. In the Silmarillion, I believe it was Melkor who revealed the making of shields, swords and armor to the Children of Illuvatar. In comparison, you'll notice in other of these ancient biblical texts that there was more than one Dark Lord. Azazel, whom God declared guilty of causing all to sin on Earth. Ouch. The reason I brought these texts up is because I often find myself asking," what exactly did Tolkien know? He seems to have had access to a lot of hidden knowledge, whether it be historical or even prophetic. I wonder what if he was trying to tell us something about our world, if there was more to it than we are led to believe..?" When I read the LOTR/Silmarillion books my first thought was," wait...why does this seem so familiar?" Especially considering the Akallabeth, the downfall of Numenor. So I like to think there is a sense of truth in the LOTR, and many of Tolkiens works. Better to put trust in his fiction at least, than today's "truth". That's just me though :) Great work overall buddy. And speaking of the Akallabeth, any chance on a video on The Downfall of Numenor?
@mdser865 жыл бұрын
You want a crazy "theory"? Imagine the Watcher Angels on the Book of Enoch are advanced Aliens (as in from outerspace). Imagine Numenor is the lost Atlantis. It all could tie together. There is a fringe theory on the internet stating that "we" were a lot more advanced in the past...more than we are today. But we lost ourselves to some great Cataclysm (the great biblical flood) caused by war using advanced weapons of mass destruction which provoked a polar shift making oceans bounce great distances. Advanced civilizations like Atlantis and Lemuria were destroyed. The remnants of all their knowledge and wisdom are seen in places like ancient Greece, Egypt, Sumeria, Babylon, Assyria, Persia... where we have the oldest bits of recorded civilization. I think we have a lot to discover still about this plantet's past (and maybe others). We know nothing about ourselves. Maybe Tolkien's work might be roadmap by which we could draw a parallel with those books you mention. I think Tolkien expresses something with is work, concerning his interpretation of the World and its History. But it's all just a theory... maybe not even that :)

I am really quite interested in the values or ideas which animate Rohan's political formation - I'm aiming to transpose them into an embryonic political community I am currently creating. As of right now, I have discerned the following virtues: - Master Morality (Aristocratic Values/General Heroic Disposition) - Hierarchy (rigorous class distinctions: King - Aristocracy - Serfdom) - Loyalty (1. Serving as an essential link for Rohan's hierarchical connections - The Rohirrim are completely devout to Theoden even during his period of ineptness whilst under Saruman's spell. Alternatively, Theoden leads and charges with his army first hand into war - this suggests that the bond of loyalty is inviolable) (2.Measure of one's intrinsic value - Grima resorts to subterfuge breaking his pact of loyalty - he is therefore thought low of and despised, ultimately being shunned after almost being executed precipitously.) (3. Rohan adheres to its allies call to arms - despite dire circumstances) - Justice ( Theoden was ready to dispense justice by his own hand / The serfs are protected and escorted to safety (these also seem to esteem and love their King)) - Frugality/Temperance (the lifestyle of the Rohirrim is moderate and harsh) - Authority (Theoden is an absolute monarch)

Which time of History Rohan is most honorable? It is deficult, becouse if we speake about ancient story, which was changed in every history situation of Great Britain, it is deficult. Eduard III- and his changed. So I really do not trust so this is original. But in all books about Lord of The Rings is most ineteresting thing when Theoden speak with Merry- so it was really great king- and Eomer is just dog behind him.
