The Studio is great, but the only thing that sucks about it is that you can't use the qwerty keyboard to access to parameters in the MPC software which are normally accessible by touch screen. When you're in program edit or sample edit, for instance, you have to use the mouse. All they would need to do is enable you to move through those screens with the arrow keys and f keys on your computer's keyboard, and it would be perfect. This is how you navigated similar screens on the MPC 4K and it worked just fine. Having to use the mouse means you never develop muscle memory, so you never get to that creative flow state where the machine disappears while you're working. That's what it's like if you really master the 4K and use it for a long time. Your hands just fly around on the thing without you thinking about it and it's like the machine becomes an extension of your mind. That's when you really connect with a machine, but that's not possible if having to reach for the mouse gets in the way of it. All it would take is a software update to fix it. I kind of wish users would complain about it and lobby Akai for that update, because if it wasn't for this problem, the Studio would be perfect for my needs. Newer users who have never owned a standalone machine won't complain about this because they don't even know about the muscle memory thing that happens when you've used a standalone machine for a long time. Also, an update like this would serve Akai's needs as well, because intro level users who have that experience will absolutely become invested in the MPC line and move on to more advanced machines. Everybody wins.

The history of the Studio Mk2 is missing the most important feature….the misguided hate the unit received traditional MPC users. Also no mention that the unit appears to be designed to directly compete with the Maschine Mikro Mk3. A history of the Studio Mk3 is not complete without the controversial nature of the device. Have a Live II and One and I still enjoy using the Studio Mk2. The Studio Mk2 wasn’t made for traditional users, yet they all complained about it.

I know, but a lot of MPC users don't like or have bad computers and i think they can't update them so when I hear bad press and I've used it I think it's not the kind of MPC they would buy. I hear you I just wanted to keep it positive like my experience.

I am guessing that the Studio MK2 is probably geared for someone like me, who doesn't own an MPC and wants to get into hip hop productions as a hobby only. What I don't understand is all the complaints about the screen size. Yes, it is small, but why wouldn't you just use the screen on your computer? I think the MK2 has a unique market for total newbies that want to enter the MPC eco system, but don't want to spend lots of money, at least not just yet. I could be wrong.
