I remember someone claimed that the dev who died was their lead enviroment designer who knew how to make it all work and that it was the final straw that broke the camel's back for the project. Supposibly someone else who was a major furry got their fursona into the game for being a major backer and wasn't happy with it so they had to keep redesigning the character till the guy left along with his huge investment. Granted that might just be bs used to try and say stuff about the people involved. The dead dev we are sure of and know that one is what ultimately cancelled it. Sad the way it happened.

@@andrewdau1299 Yes that was the one. Supposibly the guy had a lot of specifics he wanted with it which was hard to work around including supposibly telling them to redesign it each time he felt it was too fearsome or not goofy enough. I take it with a grain of salt but it does stick out.

"Godzilla: Save the Earth" is my favorite of the bunch... and favorite Godzilla game in general! I love the weakness/resistance system, how clone characters from GDAMM were made into much more unique fighters, AND it added SpaceGodzilla. Still difficult to put down all these years later. Great retrospective! (=

Godzilla Unleashed was the game I played a lot in my childhood, it has it's flaws but I'm still very fond of it. I remember a while back a user by the name of Gojirex was working on a mod for the game that would've had better controls, character balancing, and alternate skins for all kaijus, however it seems that they're not working on the project anymore which is really a shame.

I actually really like Krystalak. Wouldn't mind seeing him come back in a future game or something. But Obsidius is a really generic looking lava monster. I only like him in Matt Frank's redesign of him in his Godzilla Neo series.

Actually, the Xbox version was the one that added Mechagodzilla 3/Kiryu. He wasn't in the GameCube version. But thank you so much for making videos about these games! They're all awesome and deserve more attention than they got.

I know it's not a great game, but I still have fond memories of Unleashed. Never had a gamecube but I had a Wii and Unleashed was awesome. Beat the campaign with every faction at least once lol. Sure it was frustrating at times, but I still loved it. Also Destroyah was so op, it wasn't even funny. He actually had a super using all 4 breath meters that was basically a meteor that could almost take out an entire health bar on its own, was unblockable, homed in, and was delayed so you could attack while it's coming down. Plus his horn attacks were also unblockable. Easy 1v3s lol.

When talking about games that where being developed after this trilogy, I would also mention colossal kaiju combat. It died awhile ago due to poor management and tragic events. But, it looked very promising when it was still alive.

Unleashed’s OST is still the best out of the trilogy. MKG and Jet Jaguar’s are the best tracks in the game.

My best friend next door had Destroy All Monsters and it was such amazing, childish fun. Just chucking buildings at each other from across the stage or sprinting for a mothra power up the moment it appeared. It was pure fun and unlocking characters in the story mode was super rewarding.

Man, I remember loving Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee. So much dumb fun. I had no idea it was the game studio's first project, I remember being impressed with how focused it was. Nothing extraneous, just punching, kicking, tail-whipping, atomic breath action.

There's also the fact with DAMM, it got a Toonami review here in the US... you know, that same action cartoon/anime block that hosted DBZ during the peak of its popularity with many kids, myself included. It gave the game a lot of attention that got curious gamers like myself, curious to check it out at Blockbuster and ultimately bought it (apparently the guys at Toonami largely do game reviews on their own accord without any sponsored deals, as they only cover games they recommend and never bothered reviewing bad games).

Godzilla Unleashed actually has a tweaked version for emulators that lets you use buttons! It also has touched up visuals and Shin Gojira replacing 54!

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee, This is what introduced me to the original Godzilla and the other Kaiju monsters. This game is my childhood I LOVED this game. I never got the the later games sadly.

Godzilla Unleashed was also kinda sorta on DS. It used a slightly edited version of the Wii cover art and had the additional title of Double Smash. However, it wasn't a fighting game. It was a side-scrolling shooter/combat game.

I have to stand up for PS2 Godzilla Unleashed. It's actually highly playable once you get used to the pace and clunky controls, and it has Showa Gigan & Battra as exclusive characters, along with the new kaiju Obsidius that's also in the Wii version. Fighting the Titan versions of diff kaiju was also awesome, especially the massively oversized King Ghidorah that towers over any kaiju you play as. I recognize it's worse than the previous two, but still -- for what it is, it's very unique and definitely worth spending some time with. No motion controls either, so this is the only way to play the game on real hardware using the familiar control system from the previous games. I seriously think this version is unfairly slept on and maligned, it's the one I usually wanted to play even over the first two.

2:38 Oddly enough, Smash Bros Melee had a mission in challenge mode where you fought as a giant Donkey Kong and Bowser over a city skyscraper, as an obvious homage to Godzilla vs King Kong. I suppose if they wanted to go further on the references, Nintendo could have used Captian Falcon as Jet Jaguar, and maybe MewTwo as Space Godzilla, but now I'm just stretching it...

I remember I liked Godzilla Smash 3 on the phone. I'm not sure how to word this, but the game had a lot of "pay to play more or wait to play more". Despite that, you could beat the game without paying for anything so I had a pretty good time.

tl;dr: this was a cool video and i shared a story. I was thrown off by your poor pronunciation of several Toho kaiju when u got into "Save the Earth," but still this was a pretty good video. You may have just gotten a new sub. EXCEPT YOU FORGOT THE GAMEBOY ADVANCE GAME!!! im disappointed in that i too, as a lifelong g-fan (and due to me being 11 (and having "those" parents)); video game consoles were not in my childhood repertoire unless i found a way to get it myself, so "Domination" was the one i was stuck with for a while. Annnnd it was pretty fun. Got *really* into it cuz that was my very first exposure to a Godzilla video game (never even knew Super Godzilla existed (got a rom of it now. it's....neat?)). Anyway, i did eventually get "DAMM!" (love *that's* the acronym), as well as "Save the Earth." Always wanted a Wii and "Unleashed," but judging from what ive seen here?.......kiiiiinda glad i missed it. I'd've tried *hard* tho what with there being new kaiju AND Titanosaurus (may we bask in its radiance). Lastly, i could be wrong about this, but i do not remember Kiryu being in Destroy All Monsters Melee...was that an xbox only thing? Or am i just not remembering him? Cuz i dont think he was even a thing when "DAMM" first released...

If you want to play Godzilla Unleashed with ACTUAL controls. Gojirex has made a wonderful mod of it for Dolphin. You will need a mayflash adapter to use the Gamecube controller with it, but it's easy enough to remap the inputs to a wired Xbox controller. It truly makes it supremely playable and allows you to appreciate the rest of what makes Unleashed so good, you do need a fairly powerful computer to run it tho, that's the only downside. Destroy all Monsters was my 1st Gamecube game and I played the holy fuck out of it. Every Bday I'd get 4 controllers hooked up and have huge brawls with my friends. Then we moved on to the Xbox for Save the Earth and did the same thing. 2 of my favorite games from my childhood
