Oh man, this was such a delight to watch! I’m a diehard fan of Innoventions, and always had a soft spot for Sega’s segment of it. As you mentioned, the entire exhibit was overhauled for the Dreamcast area. However, that’s not entirely the case. In 1998, Disney held a meeting with the sponsors regarding Innoventions’ poor layout. Sega actually had their exhibit shifted west as part of the redesign of Innoventions, and Lutron took over the original Sega showfloor. The segment of Innoventions you mentioned has indeed been destroyed, but Sega’s area was in a different segment of the building which is set to begin demolition this Sunday. While that area closed in 2015, Disney used it for a few months as a Mickey Mouse meet and greet in the spot where the Dreamcast displays used to be. The area was still architecturally reminiscent of it’s former tenant. I happened to be the last one out of the building before it closed permanently! I know some people who used to work in the area and have confirmed to me that select Sega items are still in the Innoventions basement, some of which you did indeed show! One last little tidbit to mention is that Sega never really left Innoventions in spirit. When Sega pulled out of Innoventions after the Dreamcast’s failure, the shells of the exhibits were left intact. Disney actually took a few of the Dreamcast displays, repainted them, and put PS3s in them which were on display until 2015! I happen to have a piece of one of the displays in my private collection, which I’m super proud of. Sorry to ramble on, but I did enjoy the video! Nice work!

The merchandise you could buy wasn’t available in the park. In the SEGA exhibit there were telephones that were directly connected to a SEGA hotline. You would pick them up and order the merchandise you saw in the case or in a catalog they had next to the phones. The Genesis, 32x, Nomad, Saturn, Dreamcast, and the Pico all were on display at some point in the exhibit. Game Gears we’re hooked up to giant monitors. You could look at the unit itself or at the monitor, but the idea was that others walking by could see what was being played on the Game Gear.

NiGHTS?! Oh my gosh that's INCREDIBLE! It is so rare to see anything genuinely NiGHTS related connected with Sega. I mean, the games exist but some comics (even though they had spelling errors) and the plush toys are extremely hard to find. These days NiGHTS is almost unheard of and that's a shame. Even with the construction the underground areas haven't been touched. Also, Disney doesn't with hold paychecks from cast members who don't return their costumes, but a portion of their last check is taken out for payment of the garment.

And if a slow boat ride isn't your thing, Soarin' is truly unmissable. Not to mention the actual food in the food court lookin area is delicious. And make sure to go back after the massive reboot currently underway, if you get the chance. The only time I was ever able to go was just before, so I'm excited to revisit my favorite theme park on [Spaceship] Earth once it's been overhauled.

Disney had several gamedev research divisions and game studios over the years. They have acquired Lucas Arts several years ago and shut them down. They released Panda3D game engine to the public, and maintained it for close to a decade, before donating it to Carnegie Mellon University. Disney Interactive and Avalanche Software were their in-house game companies. Now the former is massively deflated and the latter was shut down. Disney Infinity was an in-house production.

Side note about that sonic Sat-AM display. I know you mentioned the display didn’t match with the animation style the show used at that time and that the show was already on the air while that display was up making it odd...funny thing though. When Sonic X-Treme was in development, in one of the project false starts there was a version of the game that looked like it was done by the Comix Zone team that matches that style. The working title, according to the guy who made the X-Treme documentary (MiiUMii2 I think) was simply Sonic The Hedgehog and had the same font and lettering as that display... Given Disney's track record with spinning platforms, that most people didn't even know it moved doesn't shock me. There are actually a lot of animatronics at Disney with features that are either costly or structurally busted, or turned out to be otherwise unwise to constantly run in a way that wasn't foreseen ahead of time, so nobody ever sees them after a certain point and many people forget those details over time. (See: Boulders falling in the Indiana Jones ride, the Yeti, the spinning showgirls fountain platform, etc etc) But for some reason these multilayered spinning platforms never seem to work out for them for long at all even compared to other things they've done. It's really cool someone managed to catch it on camera, because it's entirely possible it really didn't move for very long at all!

The game you called Sonic Extreme, seems to now be called Sonic 3D Blast. I left the comment "not sure" a min ago. I knew it as Sonic 3D. It seemed that sega was trying to decide between if they'd publish it on the Genesis or wait for the still WIP Saturn. & while thats just opinion of someone who tested it.. Imo the guarded secret was that it had a fairly high chance to cause dizziness. (3d game, on genesis, in mid 90s) otherwise it was an intriguing albeit overhyped game. The overhype is also perhaps why sega considered saving Sonic 3D for the Saturn to not disappoint expectations. (tarnish brand) Anyway, thanks for the research & would be tite for innoventions to come back one day. Didnt realize how cool it all was or that future land would be gone so soon.

Star Wars had exhibits at Disney parks called Star Tours. Later, Disney bought out Star Wars. Indiana Jones had an exhibit called "Indiana Jones Adventures" Disney has bought out Indiana Jones. Disney once had a Sonic exhibit. ... Uh oh.

Paramount made the Sonic movie, don't worry. If anything, AT&T should buy out Sonic. That way, Sonic and The Flash can be fast friends together.

Fun fact my dad actually took the sonic at 14:54 home and my sisters used to play on it before the head and body got moldy and had to be destroyed but the feet and hands could still be out there 😌

Sega let Taz Mania in because of Roger Rabbit.

This is why I find it kinda ironic that Nintendo partnered with Universal and made Super Nintendo World. To me, it shows that even though Sega and Nintendo tend to work together now, theres still a little bit of rivalry.

But I bet Universal Studios is more a Mario fan than Sonic(it's really obvious)

It most certainly is! Would have pointed it out but very small details like that are hard to spot until the video full renders.

If sega doesn’t have the stuff in the park then Disney has it
@doleluv014 жыл бұрын
They keep a lot of the stuff they don't use in storage units. However, it's also possible they've recycled or destroyed some things for parts.
@brightonkelly72504 жыл бұрын
Star Dreamer I can confirm that they did recycle quite a few of the Dreamcast displays. In fact, they were only moved a few feet away from their original location and have stood there to this very day. However, they will be removed for good and most likely shoved amongst the rest of the rubble as demolition starts in a few days.
@SECONDQUEST4 жыл бұрын
Nah. It's most likely in the trash. Happens with most shit. Storing stuff takes space and is expensive
@doleluv014 жыл бұрын
@@SECONDQUEST They do keep some stuff in storage. For example, they'll keep animatronics even after an attraction closes down for years in case they can reuse the animatronic or it's skeleton. They've reused a lot of old stuff in the parks over the years.
@bishoppossiblyexist14504 жыл бұрын
SECONDQUEST i would agree with you if it’s already known that Disney keeps a lot of stuff in their archives such as costumes ride vehicles up to full on attraction parts
