Funky Kong is the best character in Mario Kart Wii, but he has to be unlocked to use him. Speedrunners have now made a category on how quickly you can unlock Funky Kong. This is a world record history of the category.

Seeing as Funky is the strongest character in the game, a Funky% run can easily kickstart a 100% run. I'm surprised it hasn't been more popular for that reason alone.

@@LendriMujina Well, the first step of 100% run is unlocking Funky. Before the Ultra shortcuts came into the game that would have made sense but now they are it doesn’t. Hitting 2-3 ultras in a row (CM, MG and WGM maybe) is really hard and takes lot of tries and overall saves maybe a minute over just doing rYF, rGV2, and rPB. That’s a ton of effort your putting in just to start a 7+ hour run and over the course of that run the time saved just isn’t meaningful, certainly not enough to be worth taking that long to start a run. It’s easier to just try to save that time in any of the over 100 races you’ll be playing.

In case you were curious as to why _tZ deleted their internet presence, they were a member of the Geometry Dash community who knew a lot about the technical aspects of the game who one day ended up leaking a bunch of passwords to inactive accounts that he obtained from an old data breach, which is an obvious TOS break for the game. He got pushed out of the community after this incident and removed his online presence. I heard he's doing alright now though, which is good

Very cool to have been in this, I was only the second (well, at least to my knowledge at the time lol) person to do a run of this, I simply just noticed that only Tectrox had done a run and thought I could probably get a world record fairly easily, I did one run and, sure enough, that was what happened! That was over 5 years ago now (I hate the passage of time) and it's very cool to see where the category has been taken ever since then

Not even a week ago I got back into Mario Kart Wii, your timing is almost scary. I did all the unlocks and fell right back into Time Trials and all the advanced tech i learned back in the day and I'm having so much fun, it's unbelievable. It aged incredibly well and with CTGP you can even play online on hundreds of custom tracks. Amazing video, it's great to see this classic getting some love these days❤ Maybe I should give this speedrun a try too

The MKWii melee comparison is the most delusional shit I've ever heard. It's something some people in the mk wii community are pushing but it makes no sense. Mk Wii is literally more of a luck-fest than modern MK's, it's pretty much the opposite of melee in that regard (Brawl tripping, stripping down of system mechanics).
