It looks like you deleted my comment asking for this but I'll give the benefit of the doubt that it was somehow filtered out by KZbin... It would be nice to give credit *in the video* for where you take these lists - the last few episodes especially are directly from TCGRewind, and although played casually, were not around to my knowledge at any historical event (ie. who in 2011 had Maxx "C", but chose to play Ice Barrier or Moja?). It serves a few purposes - mostly, citing your sources is at minimum a professional curtesy, but it also helps the retro community more generally when people who do like this series may not know that there's fantastic resources out there. Secondly, it would help to legitimise the "history" label of this series to give a brief of where you saw these lists. Was it a random regional? Something that somehow scraped into SJC/YCS top? From an old DGZ/pojo thread? Or, a hindsight build from the community.

These where to amazing decks to watch. Cimo I think you should play test this deck a little more, because it has many lines. And though you fell in love with the ones you knew, the foolish for green baboon over the king of beasts? Could've gotten moja back from kynko-byo nd ss.. They letting nimble be negated in game one.. You played the deck well though based on the lines you did play, so I'm not trying to attack you. I just think if you play it more you'd really like it. This was a great vid. Ty mbt and cimo.

When I started getting back into Yugioh, I wanted to make decks using one of the new summoning mechanics like Synchro, so I went to look at some of the cool monsters. Trish and Brio looked super cool, and they had an archetype! I'll make Ice Barrier! What an utter disaster

# 001 One of the worst archetypes from Hidden Arsenal that produced some of the best synchros. Only for said best Syncrhos to be either limited or banned, which in turn ended up creating the best deck let alone best ritual deck at it's time in Nekroz. Only to have banned/limited the very cards that are counterparts to said Synchro cards that they banned in the first place. Only for them to come up with new support of the archetype that started this whole roller coaster in the first place. History of Ice Barriers in a nutshell. Somebody at Konami must really love Ice Barriers to death even.

The nekroz are actually descended from ice barrier (they were gishki for a while) and nekroz mirror, gishki aquamirror, and mirror of the ice barrier are all the same mirror. The nekroz monsters themselves are dance princess, shurit, sorc, and exa wearing the corpses of DT1 synchro monsters. Nekroz of trishula, for example, is shurit wearing the corpse of trishula. Trishula is possibly the single most important card in DT lore, causing the destruction of the first dt, and showing up in both of the other dts as a potent force, even when dead.

I'm looking at that ice barrier deck and my 1st thoughts are: where's defender? Where's surface? The basic line of play for Ice Barriers was to establish defender with another IB on the field. That created an attack lock.

Yeah, I'm definitely a bit confused why there aren't at least copies of Prior and Surface, those cards came out in 2011 and I have no good answer for why the deck isn't running them. While Defender's not great, he's at the very least a searchable tuner that's also a target for Gantala to bring back that stops attacks. Frog-Monarch style is definitely a way to take the IB cards, just because their main deck tribute monsters actually have meaningful text on them, but yeah, this list was *not* polished.

I actually played Ice Barriers back in the day, and you really need to play more of the little guys: Prior and Defender specifically. I'd also recommend switching out Medium for Dai-sojo so you don't lose to stuff like Dark Hole or Torrential Tribute. Also the Frog engine isn't worth it, you wanna be playing more of a trap heavy strategy with stuff like Eisbahn, Gozen Match, Call of the Haunted, Fiendish Chain, and the Solemn Brigade.

Nah, Frogs are definitely a way you can take Ice Barriers. IB Tribute summons actually have text on them unlike a lot of their low-star monsters, and the extra summons in Treeborn or Swap Frog don't just make bodies for tributes, but can also help modulate levels for synchro plays and make strong cards like Trish more accessible. On top of that, while cards like Bottomless, Torrential and Fiendish are great at disruption, your battle-focused hand traps in Gorz, Trag and Battle Fader do a better job of protecting your life points while giving you free bodies than those cards by not being weak to S/T removal, which matters because Ice Barriers usually are not great at capitalizing on open board states that cards like Bottomless and Torrential create (Unless you're playing the Wetlands build, I guess), and they don't do a lot early on and need those extra turns to actually build a board. Your opponent's S/T removal also become blanks, which can net you advantage by giving them dead draws in their deck. However, this list was absolutely missing cards like Defender, Prior and Surface, probably even Salvage: It had basically no good targets for Gantala to bring back when a card like Defender would at least prevent the deck from losing to a Blue-Eyes White Dragon outright and let you access the synchro pool. Triple Raioh makes sense if you're cosplaying as Monarchs and the floodgate effect has some niche applications, but doesn't do a lot in the deck except be level 6 body to synchro into 8 with Cryomancer, which the deck wasn't running. Overall, it seemed like the gameplan was to just win off the back of better cards like LADD and Gorz and then claim you won playing Ice Barriers.

You guys don't need to be theorizing that hard. The decklist is from a website (pinned comment) and the channel (same name as the website) has a video explaining the decisions behind the choices, but in short: Frog engine for easy Tributes, then the Level 6 to punish monster effects by forcing discards, and the Level 7 General to bring back Level 6 if they out him. The rest is standard Frog pieces and support (Gorz and LaDD). Unfortunately, TCGRewind misunderstood the effect of the Level 6 (it was supposed to punish effects like Sangan, but since that doesn't activate on field... Yeah). It ruins the point, but he claims it still works decently. It's worth giving the video a look, regardless, and maybe leave comments with suggestions, too.
