I don't expect many people to have picked up on this, but Cimo's decklist is actually an allusion to the Nordic Valkyrie/Vanadis fanfic I published 2 days ago, about the forbidden love between two tuners in the pre-Xyz era. He even included BLS as a nod to their attempt to summon CED (being a Light and a Dark) since they couldn't tune with one another. Plus Utopia in the extra deck, who appears in a literal MCU mid-credits scene to tease the arrival of Xyz Summoning. I literally could not make this shit up.

Nordic was nerfed hard from the anime: the valkyrie tuner that mades Odin by creating two tokens was rendered unplayable. The resurrection of the Aesir was nerfed as well, needing a tuner to banish (in the anime was free). It would be a meta deck for 2011-2012, but was left as jank.

Because OCG is a format that heavily favors "summon big chungus and protect with handtraps," and all the new Nordic support is more akin to a bandaid that just tells you to ignore every other card ever printed and just use the new ones to instantly summon the Aesir, with actual protection now.

a guy at my locals plays Nordic beasts. while the deck is extremely fragile, the modern day support it’s received is honestly kind of crazy. just the other week a Nordic beast adventure deck got top 8 at a regional which I believe is it’s first recorded regional top. super cool to see the building blocks of this archetype from the 5d’s era as it’s beloved by few but underexposed by the masses

Superheavy Samurai is insane. Is the Deck that cares no iotta for common sense I kinda wish it got a Level 11 Synchro for Battleball's effect And an actual usuable Pendulum In the form of a Scale 9 to Pendulum Summon Big Benkei And (in Duel Links' case) maybe a better way to Special summon Level 5 and higher Superheavy Samurai Monsters back from the GY besides setting Drum and hoping your opponent doesn't banish it

@@ianr.navahuber2195 Yeah, this deck is really fun to play and has natural outs to plenty of different problem cards, the only issue is the power ceiling and the fragility of the deck. Negating a Scales is too much of a issue, and the amount of cards that force you to special summoning Heavy’s makes cards like Naturia Beast not always available.

@@Chris_Tootoo yeah. something that stops from special summoning stops the deck in its tracks.as even trying to go the old fashionate route of "tribute summon big benkei" can be difficult if you can't get the resources to tribute summon (and if big benkei gets negated from its position change effect) funny enough scales can be a good negate bait if you haven't normal summon yet yeah superheavy could use a very good negate monster or at least something like flutist that negates things that target the superheavy

Yeah in my opinion the skill when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh beyond the basic knowledge of how to play a deck is mainly found in building a deck rather than piloting it although piloting is very important for a win the ratios & tech choices etc are much more determinative for most decks, At least if you ask me

I gotta say, ignition effect text always gets me. I totally thought Thor was a lot better at a glance because I thought it could be activated on both player's turns and the counter play around it was more about baiting out the opponent's activation before you summoned key effect monsters.

for people that werent around during this time......nimble mega hanster was a 15+ dollars super rare. i remember when it first came out and instantly knew it was going to be valuable card. when it first came out the card slowly started creeping up and toywiz didnt move the price of the card fast enough. i saw it was selling for the 5-7 dollars range after lil recognition but toy wiz was selling the card for 2 dollars a pop in wish they have about 40 copies in stock......i bought all of them for 2 dollars piece which they ended up going up to as much as like 15 dollars each. i ended up trading most of them on pojo at around 10 dollar value then gave all my friends i played with play sets

I absolutely love Nordics, I wish the three of them were competitively usable together but even if you're playground or rogue it's better to just make a single one. Thor's my second place favorite of the three, with Loki being my favorite Norse god because most playground answers to big monsters are battle phase, or main phase, which means Loki has 50% protection, usually. Odin do be good too, loved to give him 8k atk in DL

Obviously, Gleipnir would be better as a spell, but one advantage of it being a trap is that you can activate it on attack dec. There were a couple moments where Cimo could have gotten Tanngjostr and activated it off an attack, and also in game three where he could have cleared Gleipnir off his field to make his Gorz live. Overall though, great games, glad Thor got summoned, thanks to Cimo and MBT for bringing out one of my favorite janky decks.
