This match-up was even worse than I first though. Even if Alex somehow brings out Slifer with 6 cards in hand, Machu Mech alone outs it and burns for 6000 since Slifer's ATK is always different from it's original.

I don’t think it works like that since Slifer’s original ATK is not 0 but ???. The difference between 6000 and ??? isn’t 6000. So Slifer actually counters Machu xD Slifer’s original ATK in the hand and Deck are undefined and its original ATK on the field is X000 the number of cards in your hand. Slifer would actually be funny as an enabler for Machu Mech since it changes your opponent’s monsters’ ATKs.

The funny thing about D-Boyz is that there is literally no reason to play them over cards like Naturia Cherries (which summon 2 in defense and even when destroyed by card's effects). The only argument remotely possible someone would use to play D-Boyz over Cherries is that they are Dark attribute so you can banish them for Chaos Sorcerer... But you are already playing 3 other Dark monsters (not counting Fader and Kinka) for the 1-of Sorcerer that I don't think it really matters tbh

The ways I see to start with additional monster on field are: Treeborn Frog, Gorz + token, summoning two D Boyz from deck because they only attacked with one monster, Slacker Magician surviving the turn. Many of these can be combined with each other (especially Treeborn Frog) to start with two (or, rarely, three) monsters on field. A Chaos Sorc summon can then put three monsters while still having the normal summon to bring out Slifer. Slifer then immediately dies to literally any negation or destruction, so it's not really a "win" condition. But it's a...condition, I guess?

Alex's deck is not just terrible, I can't even figure out how it is supposed to work at all.. Like, there are like 3 free special summons in his deck. Yeah, D-Boyz, Mystic Piper, Kinka-Byo , nice techs and all, but how are all these cards supposed to get you 3 monsters on board without giving up your Normal for the turn? Like, if the deck was playing Double Summon, there would've at least been a shot, even it it would've been terrible.... And the few free SS's he has are just better than Slifer anyway, so what even is the frigging point?!

the hate on slifer is unwarranted completely....chaos piper wasn't a good engine for it but with the new support it got in that trap card and some of the stuff from the structures its pretty decent...of course it loses to stuff...but like so do other cards.....the deck I merged slifer with was the lair of darkness deck...also put obelisk in there because why not?....being able to tribute 3 and have lair bring back 3 tokens to tribute for another god next turn is cool and it keeps the hand full enough so slifer isn't at a low atk stat

I'm suddenly picturing a universe where someone is dueling against Marik, Strings, or Yugi. It doesn't matter who; they summon Slifer. Their opponent quotes Joseph's "This is the worst card in history." They activate Skill Drain (which is era appropriate, since it was released in the same set as other cards first used in Battle City) and just attack over it with anything. Slifer tries to strike then down for their insolence, similar to Ra knocking out Odion, but completely fails.

Slifer feels like he's just bait for a very specific subtype of Yu-Gi-Oh player. He's never good, but he's got just enough different types of weird gimmick sauce that, combined with the anime fame, means that he's a very popular first stop when there's some new card that leads to weird tech. He's like the bad version of Rhongo.

Earliest mistake in the episode was when Alex said Maxx “C” should have had a Divine Beast attribute. The attribute was Divine; Divine Beast was a type. And, same game, you don’t ever “normal summon” Zenmaioh, as Joseph said he was doing. Just language nitpicks, not gameplay errors. The thing about Slifer is, if it had the same targeting protection as Obelisk, as, you know, it is also a god card, it’d be almost playable and the points people make about it (“Links have to be in atk position! It stops them!”) would be almost valid. If. But it doesn’t.

trag may not require tributes but it does not have the attack reduction effect which by the by even if it isn't destroying things does force a sort of level limit area b effect which can be pretty good...slifer is not the issue here it's all in how you play
