I've never understood how LOTR fans could hate the Hobbit movies. Blows my mind. I believe simply it's just because it's not LOTR lol. I don't care about the cgi overuse. The story, music, Martin was the perfect cast, Smaug was great, the emotion speaks for itself. ALSO those who complain it's 3 movies instead of 1....cmon, get a grip lol. They would have to cut A LOT MORE from the book to make it all fit.

I agree. I thought this was a great adaptation of the story.
@Bkrp-bl4wb9 ай бұрын
You literally listed the reasons. If you don't agree that's fine. But in my opinion the high standard LOTR brought was not met with these films. Simple.
@magicbrownie13579 ай бұрын
Since LOTR is the greatest epic film of all time, there was really nowhere to go but down, especially considering all the corners that were cut in The Hobbit. Too much CGI for sure. Don't think there's a single live Orc in the film. Too many made up characters and situations that didn't come from any of the books. Lots of clunky dialogue that is not from Tolkien and really cringe "humor." Add to that the absolute debacle of making Thorin crazy at the end was an abomination. Despite all it's flaws, I don't hate these films, but they are a major disappointment.

Octobers, to give you a little history on the possible bond between Galadriel and Gandalf that the movies allude to: in the first one, when they meet in Rivendell, they chat about not having seen each other in many, many ages. Gandalf is a Maia, a powerful spirit named Olorin, who would have looked much like a glorified elf when he chose to be seen. Beautiful and young, and he was from Valinor, the place that Frodo sails to at the end of the Return of the King. Gandalf and Galadriel each spent time in the gardens of Lorien and I cannot imagine that they wouldn't have crossed paths when Galadriel was young and before she came to Middle Earth (she's about 8000 years old). Though never discussed in the Lore, Olorin and Galadriel could have met, though Olorin preferred to walk unseen. Galadriel would have known the Maiar, so the movies make it seem like they knew each other. Not canon, but fun to think about. The history in these stories is rich and wonderful.
@lordmortarius5389 ай бұрын
The prison cage that Gandalf is in is called a gibbet, and was used in medieval times as basically a death sentence; prisoners would be placed in them and left to die and rot, as a warning to others. That sword that Legolas is using in his fight with Bolg is the one confiscated from Thorin when they were captured by the Elves: Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver. After the Battle is over and Thorin is found dead, it is returned to him, laid atop his barrow in the Mountain, where it would glow brightly whenever enemies neared.

I first fell in love with the Fantasy genre when I read The Hobbit as a pre-teen way back in the early '70's. I know this trilogy isn't the cinematic masterpiece The Lord of The Rings is, but it captures the storytelling style of the book. I love the world of Middle Earth "The Hobbit" introduced me to and I think the trilogy captured that world beautifully! They cast the characters well and they gave us a good adventure while captured the heart of the story.. the importance of home, friendship, loyalty and bravery. I love that it manages to remain charming. I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it too!

You guys should watch the extended version of The Hobbit if you haven't as yet. It has more battle scenes and there is a lot more backstory. Definately watch The Hobbit and LOTR back to back; it’s a lot of fun. I’m doing that right now. I enjoyed your reactions to both trilogies. I don’t think the Hobbit trilogy is as good as LOTR, but I do like it quite a lot. My issues are pacing, some plot devices I didn’t think worked, and some wonky CG. I also think it’s better than a lot of what’s being put out today. If I were rating the trilogies, I’d give LOTR an A+ and Hobbit and A- or B+. I feel the same way about the books, even though the Hobbit is what launched me into life-long love of Tolkien’s works.

@natecloe85359 ай бұрын
They might mention this in the books. And I haven't seen the extended edition in a very long time they might even mention it in the movie and I'm forgetting. But it's kind of crazy to think. If bard had not killed the dragon. There is a very good chance that the dragon would have joined Sauron later on. All he would have had to do is promise Smaug some gold. I think he would have ultimately won in that scenario. It would not have taken the dragon long to destroy the Shire and get Frodo and the ring. But then there would be a new conflict. Smaug wouldn't give up a regular gold ring, I doubt he even COULD give the One Ring up.

In that place where Pippin drops a bucket down, there are skeletons of some of Thorin's own team like balin and a few more. The real reason that fans don't like these movies (specifically the hardcore fans) is that the film misses the point of the book. The Hobbit is not LOTR, the Hobbit is meant to be a more whimsical and fairy tale like adventure rather than a grand epic. Stuff like the inclusion of Azog in a story that he wasn't a part of, the Necromancer Arc, the inclusion of Legolas and discount Arwen, and several examples turn the Hobbit from a straightforward story about Bilbo's journey to find his courage into an convoluted mess that tries to be more epic than it needs to be. For what it's worth, I don't hate these movies, but it's very telling that the best scenes from the films (Bilbo and Gollum, The Smaug scene, and Thorin's final speech) are the ones that actually happened in the book.
@lailaalanna3153 ай бұрын
I find the hard one fans to be picky and miserable..I love LOTR but it's not without many faults, which they don't acknowledge. TH book is very simply written and there was no way to bring it to the screen exactly as it appears on the page.

If they had made the Dwarves kill the dragon, Peter Jackson probably would have been lynched. People were mad enough about the minor plot changes but a major one like that would have caused riots. This may have been Evangeline Lily's best role but the writing for her sucked, having a love interest between an Elf and Dwarf was the major bad point of the movies. Elves and Dwarves hated each other even after Legolas and Gimli became friends.

Watching this version of The Hobbit would kinda spoil things in the LOTR. But if you were to watch The animated Hobit movie from the 70s (Which is more ike the book) you would be fine. This Hobbit had a whole lot more that is in Tolkien's other works (The Samerillion). This story really wasn't supposed to be that big. The biggest part that's a spoiler is the Ring itself. The Hobbit book just had it as a magic ring. But then when Tolkien wrote the LOTR, he decided then to make that ring The One Ring. Also,.the love triangle is not in any of Tolkien's writings

Ok so, now that I’ve watched you guy’s reaction to this I have so sooo many things that I want to say but it’s late y’all and I’d be up typing away at this ridiculously long comment that in all likelihood nobody is going to take the time to read….so, for now at least I’ll just say that… I very much enjoyed your reactions to this trilogy so much!!! Now because I’d estimate that our opinions are pretty much the same like 95% of the time…there’s way too many things to even attempt to speak on where our opinions are similar. So instead (for now) I think it be better if I was to pick out one or two things to talk about where our opinions differ instead. First would be Smaug, from what you said, (imo) it sounds like you weren’t the biggest fan of my guy Smaug, which for me is like……blasphemy 😱 (obviously I’m being dramatic…kinda😉👌) cause Smaug, and just pretty much EVERYTHING to do with him, the way he acts, speaks, looks etc… is by far, my absolute favorite part of the trilogy for real! Second thing is probably a bit of a “hot take” but regardless I must say that Thorin is probably one of my least favorite characters…and oddly it’s not really for any like…specific reason or reasons? 🤷♀️ It’s more like just that I never found him to be what I would consider “noble” and I know that’s what most people like about him but I just don’t feel a connection, other than thru Bilbo, when he’s sad that Thorin dies…I’m sad, but aside from that I find that I have much stronger connections with Kili, Balin and Bofur than with Thorin. Is it just me? I think it may actually be just me😅🤦♀️🤷♀️ But regardless of that stuff…like I said, I love y’all and I very much enjoyed these reactions my dudes! Btw…can y’all do the Pirates Movies PLEASE!!!
