There is only one Yul Brynner. No other actor had his looks, his range of talents, his energy -- and his capacity to draw others into the spell of his charm.
There is only one Yul Brynner. No other actor had his looks, his range of talents, his energy, and his capacity to draw others into the spell of his charm. A true sophisticate of deliberately mysterious origins, Yul Brynner was at home in a wide variety of languages and social environments. At an early age he found his perfect role in The King And I.
The Academy Award-winning success that might have become a trap for a lesser star, became the ongoing glory of his career from the peak of his stardom to his untimely death. Including clips from The King And I, The Ten Commandments, Anastasia, The Magnificent Seven, The Brothers Karamazov, and Westworld, and interviews with former wife Doris Brynner, children Rock Brynner and Victoria Brynner, actors Eli Wallach, Rita Moreno, director John Frankenheimer and others.

What a great documentary! It's been years since I watched The King and I, and a lot of it was lost on me the first time. I rewatched it this week though, and was instantly taken by Yul's performance. He's raw masculinity under a layer of refinement and intelligence, and I can't think of another actor that can equal this quality. Such a tragic loss.

I love musicals!One day my mother brought me a movie and said I should watch it because it is a classical movie & musical.This movie was "The King and I" and guys I fell in love with it not only for its greatness but for EVERYTHING!I mean, this movie was the most wonderful movie I've ever seen even though it's very old for my generation!Of course I came here because of Yul Brynner because I don't know how he did that but ever since I've watched this movie he is stucked in my mind!He was such a great actor and a veeery,very,very handsome man and it's really a shame that I was born so late...I think that from now on we will not be honored to see actors like him or movies like these of the old times and I am really sad about it because,according to what I see,listen,read or watch,my generation is being a real disappointment for me!They don't hide everything,they don't respect everything and they make everything look good but with a provocative way!I know some of you may not believe me but I am real fond of the old times and there are times I wish I could have lived back then!Thank you for the video and sorry for my Engish ,I am not a native speaker :P

What is with these cancer docs? Are they just so conditioned by the pain and sorrow which accompanies the disease they treat, that they are formulaic in their diagnoses? Yul Brynner was told 3 months...he lasted 2 1/2 years. Warren Zevon, my personal hero and absolute inspiration, was told 3 months. He outlived his diagnosis by a year. I was told I had 3 months...I'm heading into my second year. They need to admit they're not omniscient, and tell patients "You'll live as long as you live. Act as if each day might be your last and LIVE it to the full!" As Warren advised, "Enjoy every sandwich." I have, and I shall...until I see Warren again...

To be honest, Rhamese was the only person that just really caught my attention because of his distinctive look and voice. I just watched The Magnificent Seven for the first time in years, and I was again struck by Yul's deep goddamn voice! There's this scene at the beginning of the film where the townspeople are arguing about whether or not they should allow an Indian to be buried with the white crooks and criminals. "Ain't no Injun muddafukka being buried on civilized soil!" "No one will drive the hearse to da cemete-rah!" Cue Yul: "I'LL DO IT!" And all the other actors recoil in shock! They were fucking afraid of that voice!

Anyone who says bald men are not great looking are dead wrong. Yul Brynner had such a huge body of work in addition to his appearnace and he had a quality lacking today in male actors.....true machoism-- that we are told is sexist and should be done away with. I disagree a lot. Take Yul over any Tom Cruise etc. They are just boring in comparison.

How 'bout Johnny Depp? I always can't wait to see his next film. Leo Decaprio ain't bad either IMHO. Like Yul Brynner they have a softness to go with their extreme manliness. lol Listen to me.... not at all their type and yet I swoon over them? I think It takes a great actor to deal with that kind of love and attention from people they would never want to waste time with. It has to be the admiration of their fellow performers that keeps them involved in their careers. Jobs are important for all of us and it would be good if everybody knew that.
@bwsmyhero
@bwsmyhero 7 жыл бұрын
Linda Spontak--Sorry, but Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio are pretty boys and pansies in comparison to the old style rugged machismo actors of the past. You think they compare because they're the best so-called "sexy macho men" that Hollywood can offer these days. But, unfortunately, that's not saying much. Actors aren't supposed to be that macho any more, because the women's movement has emasculated them. Women's lib hated those old style macho men, so they insisted they be "softened up" and for women to be "hardened up" so that women will feel stronger and somehow superior to the man. Yuck!!

Next, I researched Guy McElwayne, former top Hollywood agent and onetime president, chairman and chief executive of Columbia Pictures & Morgan Creek Productions. Sadly he died at age 71 in 2008. Update: correct spelling is McElwaine. I am writing to any surviving relatives I can find.

Yul did great in B.C. films and even Far eastern based films like "The King and I", but his western characters are so "stiff" as to be almost laughable. The "Magnificent Seven" is a great example. Coburn, McQueen, Bronson, were far more believable in their roles than the accented stiff character Yul was portraying. Even Eli Wallach came across more believable as the Mexican bandit, (even though he's jewish), than Brynner did as the lead character.
