Some men of that time had basically zero ability to care for themselves. They would marry very young, or after leaving military service. So they never learned skills to care for a home. They always had women doing everything. My great grandad could barely make a sandwhich. Maybe that's why Everson was so desperate, and I'm sure he was lonely. Being married his whole adult life.

I used to be a CNA in 2 nursing homes and it’s shocking the lack of care and compassion go on in them. I had to quit because I got too attached to the elderly and took it extremely hard when they passed. But more times than not I would see and hear co workers have the attitude of “Fine, if you won’t cooperate you can lay in your piss all night I don’t care.” You could always tell which ones were only there for a paycheck and which ones actually cared about the residents. It pissed me off every single time because I worked overnights and even some of the nurses would just sleep on their shifts. It’s made me extremely skeptical of nursing homes and thankfully none of my loved ones have been in any. Otherwise I’d be up there at least once a week to see how they were being treated.

Psychosis = a disconnect from reality, it usually features hallucinations, delusions and thought disorders. If you have schizophrenia, by definition you have psychosis. It's entirely different from being a "psychopath" which is a colloquial term for antisocial personality disorder. I hope this helps as I see the two things confused a lot x
@Essetkol4 жыл бұрын
That's what i thought, a person with psychosis can't really have a normal life as she did. It doesn't make sense
@mookiemoosnails4 жыл бұрын
Gustav people with psychosis most definitely can lead a normal life
@glauvie4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Having to clarify this all the time for people. Also people like to use “antisocial” to mean not wanting to socialize. No. That’s asocial. Antisocial is oceans deeper than that.
@Essetkol4 жыл бұрын
@@mookiemoosnails I meant people WITHOUT any treatment can't live normally
@kaleidoscopic94954 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this! As someone with a family member who has schizophrenia, I really appreciate someone clarifying these very different words and their meaning. The first step to mental health awareness without stigma is education ❤ The only thing I would add is that someone can also experience psychosis/psychotic episodes without being schizophrenic, but I think a lot of people already know that. ETA: And yes, many people who experience psychosis in its many forms live a "normal" life, and often people from the outside would never guess someone even experiences it. I recommend researching John Nash, who was an amazing individual with schizophrenia who didn't lead a "normal" life - he actually lived an extraordinary life, all without treatment, and had a movie made after him. It gives some insight into the condition, but also shows that anyone can have this disorder and live outside the stereotype.
