@MR Blaze Pukka Lol, they sold us *BUILD FOR THEM* units just a few months after order. FUI: it takes *years* between such order and delivery, manufacturing process takes times and production lines don't just lay there waiting for work. *This was unpresidented!* Contract to not only become independent from any parts manufacturing outside of Poland but also rights to modernize to entirety different *PL* version is also not common deal.
@CieplinskiPawel

@@DeadDolphinMan They _gave_ us units build for Korea and we've paid for them. As that's extremely short delivery. So Korean Army will wait for theirs for longer, and mind you who's their neighbors on the North... And we're *thankful* for that!!! The contract on more common conditions, to be delivered in few years, will offer our independence in spare parts production, which from current delivery chains crisis is super important. Also we bought rights to, also in years to comes, create K9PL and K2PL that will be modernized to the extend we will also have rights to sell them as unique version.

Hanwha Defense Industries Australia are building a new factory for manufacturing the K9 in Australia. The new facility included R&D and testing facilities for ongoing development of the howitzer. Construction began in April and the factory and facilities will be finished in 2024. The Australian variant is called the K9 Huntsman, and is similar to the Norwegian K9 VIDAR. Excellent, as we need as many of these howitzers being built as possible. Also all Korean export K9's use Australian Bisalloy armor plating. Also in April Hanwha convened a meeting in Korea between the militaries of Australia, Estonia, Finland, Norway, and South Korea to share user experience of the K9 in service and to take feedback about improvements sought by operators and to discuss potential developments such as a robot version, using railguns and other future weapons systems. It seems Hanwha is very serious about the long term evolution of the platform.

Someone described it as using M1 Garand vs M4. M1 was a great rifle but has no magazine. When you are in a battle, that becomes a huge issue in modern warfare. Whereas K9 has auto resupply vehicle which works like a magazine that goes everywhere with you and carries just over 2 full stack loads and only takes less than 5 mins. PhZ2000 many carry 60 rounds vs K9 48 rounds, but manual reloading will take hell lot longer and expose the crew to outside conditions. FYI, all rounds have barcodes and automatically designated once loaded to K9 and K10. The autoloader on K9 can select required rounds as per the command from central command centre without doing anything. When it requires a specific rounds resupply, K10 would supply automatically what is needed. That is sick!

I'm sure that there was some assistance from the US for both the PzH2000 and K9. Both show remarkable resemblance to the Crusader Program, which Congress ditched late in development. I was assigned to 2/82FA 1Cav in 1998, which was helping to develop the SOP for the Crusader at the time. It wasn't that the Crusader wouldn't work, but that the propellant was causing cost overruns, and if they had switched to powder like the PzH2000 and K9, we would have had it for a while now.

great artillery hardware. no wander the k9 it's also being bought by Poland and soon many other allied coutries, as Caesers, PzH-2000 (I see the US palladin as less good), Zuzanas can't be produced in time to it's own army, Ukraine and others. in the future, near one so-so (2024), maybe the M1299 turn to be the king of the battle. Till then, in an time of uncertainty, the SK-K9/A1 is a great choice. Eager to see the A2 version, hopefully in real fire drills and not in real battlefields.

Anyone who has been stationed in SK (Camp Howze in my day) close to the DMZ knows how ridiculously difficult the terrain is for any NK ground force to traverse South. From rock drops, natural and man made bottlenecks with logistical anticipation where they would likely move, cause they have no choice. All the defenders have to do is hold with home field advantage as long as possible til reinforcements arrive in greater numbers than the present force within days. Nukes? South Korea can be rebuilt, North Korea will be erased from existence if that's what they want.

Don't be silly. If there's an out and out war, with the North using Nukes against the South --- it doesn't matter that they'd all die, too, yes --- almost all South Koreans would die instantly, from 5 ICBM nukes, each containing 3 to 5 MIRVs, each MIRV up to 20 times the crude, 10,000 giant FAT MAN dropped on Nagasaki, 1945. The rest would suffer horribly from radiation and die soon after.... making most big South Korean cities (land, homes, water, trees, etc) unlivable for decades, due to radiation contamination... And South Korea likely has more than 5 ICBMs now, since 50% of their small well kept defense budget goes toward nuclear weapons, the ONLY thing they know would deter the South and the US from pre-emptively striking against North Korea. Those NK guys are still living in the 1950s - 80s, highly indoctrinated & deluded, so they would use nukes, if provoked.

In 1968 the towed 155MM howitzer could consistently drop shells on a 3 x 3 foot target from 11 miles away. The barrel had rifling like a snipers rifle. I know because the forward observer often times had to call our shells in close to him to drive away attacking viet cong. The curtain of steel was all that made it possible for him and his team to survive. The increased stability of a self propelled howitzer should enable it to be even more accurate. I'm certain the newer versions are at least as accurate and have a longer range making them a very devastating weapon.

Any of the super accurate artillery pieces will be high maintenance, they are supposed to be used in an environment with a high level of air, infantry and logistic support. Ukraine is fighting a WWI style trench & artillery war, if NATO was fighting in Ukraine against Russia all of Russia's anti air & command gear would be taken out by missiles in a couple of days and then ground attack air craft would be taking out all of the artillery\tanks etc from high altitude out of reach of any manpads.

80's north korea's terrorism has quite cringe reason. North Korea tried to create an atmosphere of fear, like the Munich Olympics, North aim of disrupting South Korea's 1988 Olympics. In the end, North Korea asked for a joint hosting to south, then they'll stop hostile action. North want North's game was played in Pyongyang because they dont want to show that South Korea was better economic than North Korea to residents but co-host was rejected and north absent Olympic.

Is it possible to make a howitzer and instead of it firing a projectile at fires a beam laser beam that you reflect light or maybe even have an actual source to begin with call it how it’s your defense system

laser technology is in its infancy. .Not a viable weapon at this point in time. Requires too much power, and the beam created is very weak.

Why not have the rounds in a sealed case for crew protection if they are hit?
@shotime95
@shotime95 Жыл бұрын
I doubt a sealed case would provide meaninful protection against ammo explosion in the event of direct hit by HE shells. Whole point of SPGs is to evade enemy counterfire. Better to just have the shells ready to be prepped and loaded at moment's notice.

@@shotime95 the crew might have a chance of survival if the shells were enclosed and they had a blowout panel like the Abrams has.
