The Human Torch Evolution in Movies & Cartoons (1967-2025) Johnny Storm | Fantastic Four

The Human Torch, Johnny Storm, debuted in the 1967 Fantastic Four animated series with a classic Jack Kirby art style. He appeared in the 1978 series, but licensing issues replaced him with the robot HERBIE. In 1994's Fantastic Four: The Animated Series, Johnny's look evolved with darker tones. Chris Evans played him in the 2005 live-action film, followed by an anime-style version in 2006's Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes. The 2015 reboot featured Michael B. Jordan. Joseph Quinn will portray a 60s throwback version in the upcoming MCU adaptation.

I don't really get Marvel TL;DR, but it's pretty much the approach taken by the 1967 Marvel Superheroes Xerography process, only it's now done by computer gif. Is that the point? And I never liked the chibi style - the characters just look too childlike to me.

When the Fantastic Four property was made into an animated series in 1978, the character of the Human Torch was unable to be used as, at the time, the character had been optioned separately for use in a solo film (which never materialized).
