I lived in Anchorage during this time and I know Treyveons family. His father knew the killer and had grown up with the guy. This monster terrorized Anchorage until he died. Just like Israel Keyes. There were also 2 other people killed at the bluff at this time, but weren't sure if this guy was involved. Thank you for covering this Mike.

Same here! How the heck did he know to call it that? I wrote to him suggesting that he cover a double murder in my hometown of Sitka. The story twists and turns, killer got away with it for years, later got in an accident and became a paraplegic, then a stroke of luck and forensics proved his guilt. He was just about to get arrested and then drove his motorized wheelchair off the end of the Alaska Marine Highway dock and committed suicide. Stories like that only happens in small towns!

@@Magical_Thinking I'm Aussie and feel like I've heard the term before so maybe he just picked it up somewhere on the internet lol. Also might be a dumb question, but there are 50 states and Alaska is the furthest up so how come it's the lower 48 and not 49? Are we not counting Hawaii? Or do Alaskans have a beef with Ohioans and refuse to count Ohio as a state? Side note, driving your wheelchair off a pier to commit suicide is the most morbidly hilarious thing I've ever heard

I lived in Anchorage while this was happening. It was a frightening time. IMO the cops were slow to take this serial killer seriously because most of his victims were homeless. Finding and stopping this murderer was definitely a fluke on the ADP’s part. I am sincerely grateful to the cops that shot and killed Ritchie a block from my apartment downtown.

If the cop had died you can bet your last red cent they'd have been all over the case. Either they didn't even bother to run ballistics on the bullets from the homeless cases or they're just completely incompetent. Serves them right the last victim was one if their own. Sadly homeless people aren't issued bullet proof vests

Well, if it was me as a police officer patrolling the early morning hours. i'd have my pistol out of its holster and lying within very easy reach. After the second PA order for the pedestrian to stop, and he didnt...i'd have my pistol in hand at the ready. (it would make common sense, given the current situation that a probable serial killer who kills in the early morning hours is still at-large). Once he turned around and didnt stop, i'd already have my pistol trained on him. Not a guarantee that i'd totally win the gunfight, but it would be an extra advantage in my favor as I would most probably get the first shots out as he pulls out his gun/ revolver to engage me. Other advantages include Im wearing a kevalar vest and have a bit of cover via the auto. unless he gets a lucky shot (or if he is a crack shot) to the head, im in a much more advantageous situation. The police chief is not totally accurate in his use of the word "ambushed", he was semi-ambushed. Ambushed is being totally surprised by an attacker that "comes out of hiding" to do you/ others harm. This obviously isnt the case.

@@Gizziiusa I'd agree with this, i thought myself after he didn't stop or acknowledge the cop car in any way I'd have been ready for trouble here and I'd have prepared myself like the post above says, my instinct would have been waving flags and ringing bells on that guy walking. Also yes it's not really an ambush, a surprise maybe but i think it's clear there was going to be a problem with this guy after the first time the cop told him to stop and he didn't even acknowledge, you should know there's a problem here, definitely there's something wrong so be careful is what my instinct would be telling me. Glad the cop survived though, took four bullets but still returned fire, fair play to him for that.

I vividly remember this all happening. I was so happy the officer survived. We have more than our fair share of murderous crazies up here. I'm glad the dude died. Love TC for covering so many of our stories recently. I have a feeling another one is coming up soon. Lots of people have "disappeared" in the Fairbanks area. Keep your eyes on that one Mike.

That's just not the style of That Chapter. You could take any one of the cases Mike covers and extend them to 2 hours or more if you wanted to, but they wouldn't be as engaging or capture/maintain the audience Mike has built up. People have tiny attention spans these days. People already rush to the comments section 5 mins into these videos. He'd lose a massive chunk of his audience with 2 hour videos.
