literally the only thing i take away is that things have been orderly in this video. This video is the very definition of orderly.

Its more ordered(the water ) *pre/before* hydrophobic effect and aggregation. Afterwards however you have less ordered water molecules. Which is why the less ordered environment of water, is favored because more disorder is more favorable
@berenicedrabo15732 жыл бұрын
@@tammyclairs166 I read in a biochem book that before the hydrophobic effect happen , the entropy is more favorable… that’s weird

finally. a short precise explanation that actually makes sense. I think the pictures really helped. I read through jack westin, shem, and reddit and still couldn't understand it as well until I watched this. I knew all of the concepts but I just couldn't make it make sense.

so the hydrophobic effects decreases the solvation layer of a protein? it makes protein folding make some more sense as to why it's energetically favorable
@ninjadog58005 ай бұрын
You're better than my lecturer thank you so much!!!!! I remember hearing that the bonding of hydrophillic ligands to proteins was mainly because that is entropically favourable too becuase the hydrophillic ligands bond to many water molecules and bonding to a protein means more free molecules in solution, but the again I remember hearing the main driving force of binding is the decrease in enthalpy instead, do you have any idea which one the truth is

OK so the water gets disordered through the aggregation of the non-polar molecules, doesn't the opposite effect occur with the hydrophobic peptides? They go from infinite number of states to a small number of states?
@sciencesimplified38902 жыл бұрын
theres a total net increased possible conformations when hydrophobic amino acids aggregate.. so the increased number of conformations of water outweighs the number of possible conformations lost by amino acids

It's a little bit more complex than that, it relates to the number of possibilities. If any one is interested I would reconsider explaining it
