Ngl, I tried interpreting the show/finale and character arcs so many times in my brain cause I thought ok Sam Levinson/The Weeknd are smart and creative and maybe we missed the point but honestly, the show is a mess. It had so much potential but it is just all over the place and not good. Kinda cringey.

So I was right, Jocelyn was the real villain since the beginning and now we are supposed to feel bad for Tedros now ? This is the worst show I’ve ever seen. Now I get why The Weeknd found that the original story made by the female director was too much into a « female perspective » because he didn’t wanted Jocelyn to be the victim but his own character. This whole thing makes me fucking sick and by the way, what happened to Rob, Leïa ? They spent the whole time showing pointless music montage instead of telling a real story it’s so annoying, just like Euphoria. Speaking of Euphoria, this reminds me when they said that 14 y/o Maddy lost her virginity with a 40 year old man but she was the one in control like wtf ? Or when she sent an innocent man in jail for rape and then it was never brought again just like the Rob story. I think Sam L. needs to be fired

It was horrible how Tedros set up Rob and ruined his Career. Jocelyn knew Tedros did that and she didn't even bother to defend Rob or take his phone calls. @@LordTitus7 its not a feminist show?? It initially WAS a feminist show, then Levinson and the Weeknd were hired and changed it bc it had "too much female perspective," and the original director and creator left bc of what it became. Certainly, anyone can be a piece of shit, but this "twist" in the end just perpetuates a stereotype about women being conniving and calculated, and makes Tedros, who is an abuser, now the victim bc the protagonist "knew" he was abusing her or something. Even if it was something she wanted, she didn't show that until the end, so until then, he was abusive and showed his true colours. It's also weird for them to be like "yeah he abused her but she was actually in control so its okay." Apparently Levinson has done that before in Euphoria where Maddie lost her virginity at 14 to a 40 year old but they made out like she was in control of the situation rather than a victim of statutory rape.

Jocelyn’s villian arc was so bland and anticlimactic. If it were a good show they would get the viewers to root for her and genuinely see her as a good person which would make the villian arc so much more entertaining. Instead she gave us NOTHING, possibly faked her abused, let her manager and best friend get verbally and physically abused by teddy bear tedros, then took him back after all he did. She literally overcame nothing! Whether the mc is a hero , villian or victim we are suppose to root for them or care for them in some way, the joker would be a good example. This was hot garbage.
@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259
@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 Жыл бұрын
@Charlieiscorrect. If you root for them, they aren't a villain usually. Joker 2019 was a horrible bland film and it's sad this is what people see the Joker as. A villain having charm or a sympathetic motive and time spent with them is what makes them compelling and sympathetic. I wouldn't go as far to say you want them to win although that's maybe not what you meant by root for

The transitions between state À to B were too rushed. I felt like so many things happened between episodes. They should have spent less time with the sex scenes and more time Actually telling the story.
@pqm6383
@pqm6383 Жыл бұрын
@@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 I disagree. If we are seeing the story throughthe villain's eyes, I think you will root for them if the villain and story is actually well written. Or if the "good characters" are annoying and dislikeable enough. Like in the Midsommar movie, everyone wanted the friends to die, we were rooting for the cult to kill them all because they were such horrrible people to the main character. I think as a minimum, give me a reason on why I should root for them. How is letting herself get abused a master move? They needed that sixth episode to gaslight people and explain her decisions. This is just bad writting. They expect two brief scenes of a 5 episode show to be enough indication and foreshadowing that she's been faking her emotions the whole time.
@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259
@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 Жыл бұрын
@@pqm6383 no I wasn't rooting for the cult to kill them. That's sick. The cult is far worse than the people she came with. Agreed that the idol is bad writing you're hundo percent right there. The cult are the villains and you aren't supposed to sympathize with them. Well you kinda are. The movie is supposed to show you how the cult manipulates Dani. But you fall for it by the end. Because of the stress and manipulation the cult creates, you, like Dani have no choice but to accept "they deserved it".
@pqm6383
@pqm6383 Жыл бұрын
@@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 That's my point. The movie brainwashed you, just like Dani was. The cult is horrible, the worst option ever, she can never escape. But people still liked the ending because the friends were shown in such a horrible light. People were more happy that the boyfriend died than sad that Dani wasn't able to escape. As the storyteller you can make us root for any character good or bad, if the story is well told.

I get the feeling that the original ending before Sam and Weeknd got on board was very similar to this with the two staying together but the subtext was drastically different. The show before this episode showed a woman who'd been abused feel empty after the abuse was over and subconsciously get into a relationship that mimicked that abuse to feel whole again. I got the sense that the intention of the show was originally showing how people can wind up craving abuse because their identity gets drawn up around it. As someone who did write music while being in a toxic environment, you get into the mindset that your music is only worthwhile because of the pain behind it, so when what causes you pain is over you feel an emptiness and lack of identity that makes you wish you had it again. I think the original ending was meant to have that subtext. And then they added the goddamn brush plot twist and the cheesy ass music to their reunion and ruined what would've been a powerful ending about keeping yourself in a cycle of abuse cause you don't see another way to live.

What's funny about women claiming they knew this would be the twist... Either that's a sign of how $hitty/predictable female-aimed media writing is (I have ENDLESS list of examples) OR women are projecting something THEY would do because I 100% tell you men like me, Aaron, Jo (and MOST men) really didn't possibly think this is where it would end up. So which is it ladies? Is media "for you" just also this $hit or are you projecting something deep down in you? No the lie of the abuse, but manipulating a man WITH a lie of sympathy? Personally I believe both lol.

of course the dudes who thought the original script had "too much of a female perspective" would rewrite it so ACTUALLY the woman was a conniving harlot who gets off on being abused and actually manipulated the sensitive misunderstood man with a dark past into abusing her by playing 12-D manipulation chess with every single person in her life... cherry on top is that they dont even give an explantation as to why she'd want to act this way, are we just supposed to assume she was born evil??

I think this only clicked in my brain because Tedros’s messy rat tail wig with the bandana does fully remind me of Johnny Depp’s real hair sometimes
