I think some people were focusing too much on Jennie when she literally had a small role as if this was supposed to be her show. The thing to do is vet the script and check that the other actors are pros. If you're a newbie you need experienced people to guide you. Plenty of good things still out there, but you need an eye for quality. Her agents let her down bad.

I was trying to only watch Jennie's scenes but I did ed up running into some Tedros scenes on twitter and safe to say: I am not listening to The Weeknd's music anymore. I know he plays a character that has to disgust you but he plays Tedros so BADLY that I am just disappointed. We put the first episode on one night, not knowing much about it at all. I was a big The Weekend fan, so yeah, I won’t be watching more in hopes of salvaging my enjoyment of his music at least. But hilariously, I had no idea Jennie was in it, so I’m watching these scenes with quite a lot of shock value and processing that the show was really going to go there and then “WTF?! Is that Jennie?!” I was so confused. I just didn’t see that coming at all and had no idea she would be in something that graphic. 😅

Very well said. I decided to watch the show only because of Jennie and Lily-Rose Depp pretty much. After the first episode I was like should I even continue watching this. But I read some articles about the show getting some resolution in the latter episodes, so decided to stick with it. And nope. Just nothing interesting happens. Only graphic shocking scenes for the sake of graphic shocking scenes. On Jennies involvement. Honestly it's probably best for her that she wasn't a big part of the show, since now she can act as if it never happened. And it makes sense that they wrote her out of the story. Her management probably didn't allow her to be part of the sexually explicit scenes and seeing as those are the majority of the whole show. That gave her very little room to get air time.

When I heard it was coming out I was excited to see okay "the corrupt ins and outs of Hollywood seeing what ppl like Brittney, Lady Gaga and Halsey all female artists who were abused and assaulted by higher ups in the music industry...but NAH we got "he's so rape-y I kinda like that about him" and the while she was on control the entire time bs don't even get me started on the advertising of fake allegations and torture. This show made it seem like us women can just take what comes at us physically because at the end of the day we had the keys, the control the whole time and sexualizing a minor is just ugh. They really did try to be so "out of the box, edgy and reckless we don't give af" but it just came out HOT, SEEPING GARBAGE! Everytime you think they're making a breakdown and talking abt something deep but it's immediately covered up by unnecessary nudity and brutal sex scenes. P.S facing abuse from family is something serious and while I've never experienced it I feel for those who have and it sucks that the show used it and turned it into a personality trait and a way to "sell tickets" To add on completely selling off to the male gaze isn't exactly empowerment.

I will try Lingopie :) I need to improve my Korean reading speed if I want to sing Jennie's "Solo" at karaoke ^^ I owe you! I wanted to know more about the show without spending anytime on it. Gotta keep up with the youth and pop culture ^^. I was interested because the Weekend was involved ; he can make really good songs. The show looked trashy, and it buzzed with celebrity names (Johnny Depp was my idol_21st jumpstreet, such a good show_ he would hate that^^). I quickly heard the shock of Jennie's fans. That the female parts were really bad. But it seems the bad guy role was pitiful as well! Such a waste! What was he thinking? He may be surrounded by Yes Men... Take care of yourself until next time

Anna, you're right that Korean celebrities are being used for the fan bases they can bring along with their participation. I've thought the same thing clear back to BTS's collab with Ed Sheeran and Permission to Dance. Recently this thinking has extended to Netflix's XO Kitty, TXT's recent collab with the Jonas Brothers for Do It Like That, and Latto's part in Jungkook's Seven. However, if you get the right writer and producer American/Korean collab's can be quite amazing, such as the movie Minari, and Snowpiercer (which actually was a Korean/Czech collab with American actors), but you get the drift. Sex sells in America...at least some of the time, and unfortunately The Weeknd used that ploy to sell his production only this time it just didn't work. I haven't see The Idol, and don't plan on it after reading the reviews. Just give me more Kdramas like King the Land, See You In My 19th Life, Squid Game 2,...oh, and the next Ramyeon and Chill 😄and I'll be happy!!
