The real issue here is education. Our "education system" has done everything in it's power to mass produce ignorance and the byproduct of that is a low information voting class. I am 49 years old. I recall being taught basic economics ever so briefly in a 7th grade civics class as a kid. Admittedly I thought it was boring as Hell at the time and could barely stay awake in that 3rd period civics class. At that stage in life I wasn't far removed from believing in Santa Clause and thinking that there was nothing more mind numbingly boring than the kinds of conversation that adults (like my father) routinely engaged in. In summation, I learned very little about civics or economics from that class, and I don't recall learning too much about civics or economics during my school years beyond what was taught in that class. I really didn't start to learn much about economics until I was well into my 30s and long out of school. By then, the kinds of topics of conversation that interested me had changed dramatically from the kinds of topics that would have interested me when I was in 7th grade. I guess I just became one of those boring adults that I never wanted to become as a kid. People have been conditioned to believe that economics are complicated. People have been lead to believe you have to be some kind of Thomas Sowell level intellect to really understand economics. So most people just shrug it off and assume they are not smart enough to grasp economics. First off, if the kind of an economic system we have is so complex that you have to be a Thomas Sowell level intellectual to understand, that should be our first red flag. Anyone who has mastered basic mathematics and has a modicum of common sense should be able to grasp economics. The ruling class and the elites get away with what they get away with because most people don't understand economics and just assume they aren't capable of grasping economics. If the voting class predominantly understood economics, they wouldn't tolerate a complicated economic structure and would vote accordingly. The elites and the ruling class could not get away with a fraction of what they do get away with. Sure, price controls may sound great, and it may sound like a way of balancing the scales for those who are less fortunate for anyone who is a low information type of voter. The public education system and academia as a whole are in bed with the elites and the ruling class who rely on the education system and a mainstream media structure that produces ignorance. It makes it so much easier for them to pull the wool over the eyes of the people and get away with what they get away with.

In the late 70’s oil shortage I owned an Independent gas station. Gov’t set price of gas 6.5 cents over cost and mandated I get 90% of previous years volume, for full service. My supplier sold me gas for $1.01 and my pump price was $1.07.5. My nearest competitor a major brand pump price was $.989. I sold no gas for 1st 3 weeks each month and then I would have 50 cars lined up to buy my gas. I was accused of price gouging by many buyers who would say that gas was only 98.9 at my competitor’s station. I would say, why aren’t you buying it there today? There answer was always the same, they don’t have any gas. My standard answer was, when I don’t have any gas to sell my price is 79.9.

I remember those days. Carter had put price controls on fuel. I was working at late brother-in-law service station at the time. Also remember him telling me that he could only make a max of 16 cents a gallon (full serve, self serve was 6 cents a gallon profit). One day a lady from the DOE showed up to check his pricing (she was in town checking every stations pricing) and found that him was making the highest margin allowed by law, (with the current price cost) if his price was 1 cent more he looked at possibly $1000's in fines. When Reagan was elected he cut out the price controls and actually the prices when down.

The VP grew up in Canada between 5th grade and her freshman year at college, so she has experience from her formative years of such things as extensive government ownership of industry and, notably, wage & price controls (1975-78). All her social and political ideas and policies bear a strong imprint from those years, all of them during the prime ministership of Pierre Trudeau when Canada was actually much more left-wing than it is now, economically at least. Yet he was considered a center-left moderate, and in truth he was - compared to her. Canadians will understand when I say she would be America's first NDP president. (It's Canada's leftmost national party.) She promises to introduce price controls, probably thinking of them as within the bounds of normality due to that experience. But they failed in Canada, taking barely 1% off inflation over three years (!) but shaving 2.5% off wages. Living standards fell. Although Trudeau finally ended the controls, angry voters soon afterwards threw him out of office. But I bet she sees that as totally beside the point, since leftists and no-limits liberals never care whether left policies work or not. To them success resides in imposing them, not in producing positive results. It's interesting to note that she and the appalling Justin Trudeau, whom I call Prime Minister Peter Pan, grew up in adjacent wealthy neighborhoods in Montreal (Westmount and the Golden Square Mile). They didn't know each other, but are political soulmates to this day and probably forever. Everybody talks about her various identities as American, African-American, Indian and Jamaican, but in my opinion she's an absolutely standard, mass-made old Canadian lefty.

Thomas Sowell, you are the most underrated voices of Truth & Reason and a gem kept hidden by a controlled academia & liberal establishment. I'm Blessed to learn from your insightful teaching and honest encouragement. 📖🤓💯🇺🇸🙏🏻🕊️📚 Life's a journey of learning, discovery & evolving, growth & change, we must embrace what is good & healthy and reject what is harmful to our society and have the wise ability to know the distinction. What ever happened to the old saying, "Think for Yourself", that's not what is being pursued in children & young adults anymore and we see the results of foolish brain wash & dangerous rhetoric. Economics, sociology, personal finance, there are many courses that should be an automatic requirement along with teaching basic skills for life self suffiency. Thomas Sowell you are a hero for a strong American voice for sense & rationale, and you're a deep thinker, well researched. I enjoy listening to your common sense & wisdom. ❤️🇺🇸❤️🙏🏻🕊️📖🤓👍🏻📚🇺🇸❤️
