Dear Doctor, Two thousand years ago a roman senator had many chronic diseases and was constantly in pain so he decided to end his life by suicide. He decided to fast until he died. @@frjasmaa7011 I had the same problem. Even on BP meds my pressure is still pretty high. I was becoming discouraged. Right now I'm trying the LCHF diet (low carb high/healthy fat) which completely eliminates vegetable oils, all grains and legumes, and, of course, all sugar. It's a simple diet, and I'm finding that I feel fine, but will continue for a while before I have my BP checked again. I'll also have blood tests for organ function and cholesterol. This diet is supposed to be great for lowering cholesterol, which is another reason why I'm doing it (just to keep my doctor happy), although I personally have no worries about my cholesterol, as high cholesterol is protective against all-cause mortality 😊😊👍 Clinical trials have shown that the higher your cholesterol the longer you live. Also, the idea pushed by the government guidelines and the medical profession that high cholesterol increases the risk of heart disease, has been shown by properly conducted trials to be completely bogus. The reason most drs don’t suggest things like fasting is because a large % of the population doesn’t want to make any changes.. they only want to take a pill ,,,not give up their sweet and salty snacks and sodas.. That statement she made just before timeline 10:25 "visceral fatty tissue triggers high blood pressure and insulin resistance" that is huge even in and of itself. If fasting can normalise those 2 things by themselves, then it would be worthwhile fasting once or twice a week for that alone, of course after the initial 10 day fasting period. Incidentally several doctors from across different modalities of medical disciplines agree that fasting (without exercising) uses more visceral fat than if you do exercise while fasting. Thanks Dr Wulhelmi.

I noticed that when I began to fast for 72 hours my blood pressure clearly dropped then went back up once I ate again. Repeated fasting 72 hours once a week brought it down - high 130s over high 80s to low 130s to low 80s. These measurements were interrupted by one my 2 BP medications becoming unavailable and the new supplied when they arrived being much stronger - needing half the dose for the same effect. Later I began lifting weights and noticed on days I lifted that that my numbers would drop below 120 and well below 80. It then returns to 120s over low 80s. I am lifting weights precisely to lose visceral fat and I suspect if I succeed I will be able to lower my BP medication. That little mention of visceral fat in the video really got my attention!

Agree, excess visceral fat is NOT good! I retired two years ago, I’ve been moderately active and ideal weight for most of my life. Last two years I’m not moving nearly as much, at a guess probably dropped 80% of activity ( no work = no running around), then Covid hit, I did the couch potato really well. I gained around 10 kgs. My BF% rose a lot! First time ever my blood pressure is up. Two things need to happen - drop weight and get visceral fat back to normal and move EVERY day. Well done on your fasting!

THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! I just did a 77.5 hour fast a couple weeks ago and was amazed at how well it controlled my blood pressure. I was taking 3 meds for that twice a day. My cardiologist had to have me stop all but one and that one he cut in half! I did drink water and took supplemental electrolytes during my fast and felt great the whole time. I think I could have gone longer but I just missed food, lol. I did goof up on ending my fast though. Members of my keto group warned me to be careful on the refeed for two days. However, since I felt fine, I thought it'd be okay to fudge a little on my food choices. During the late hours of the 1st day I was bad and grazed on a pound of pork rinds. Needless to say I woke up in the morning to discover they had gone right through me! I had morning angina for the first time which continued throughout the next day or so intermittently. I looked at the pork rinds and realized that I had ingested 7,000 mg of salt just with them. Add more salt with the other foods I ate during that time and you can imagine how messed up I got. So, lesson learned. I hope to try another extended fast before the end of this month. You video has inspired me. Thank you for that! My keto doc tells me I must let him know before I do this and my keto cardiologist is too afraid to let me fast for more than 16 hours. LOL. I typically eat during a 18:6 window. I'm tying to do ADF (alternate day fasting) or OMAD as well. I'll have to look and hope you've published a video on refeeding. Thomas DeLauer has a good one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aH2oiH6lfbV3o6c I'd love to see yours! Again, thank you for your work and publicly publishing your results! PS I'm 64 with severe CVD. I ate keto for 2 years and now eat carnivore for the last 16 months. I've fixed my T2D of over 25 years (worked my way up to U500). Eliminated those meds in 3 weeks. For a short time I had stage 3 CKD with a GFR of 40. I've kept it above 80 for nearly 3 years now. My A1C has stayed at 5.0. My TG:HDL ratio is 1.6 at present. Oh, and I've gone from 518 at my worst to 340 now. Started the keto at 490. I'm ecstatic at the progress and health I've achieved except for the one problem. The CVD. QQ: Does the fasting cause a reduction in the plaque burden in the cardiovascular system? QQ In his 2019 video this doctor says not to fast too long intimating it could be damaging. After 1 week of my usual past eating habit of 3 meals, including sugars, my BP this morning has risen to 130/80 but with no experience of fainting. Fasting speeds up & tighten up one to Self. This is reduction in engagement and involvement externally, leading to auto cleansing to redefine the physiology to more genetic Expression than Epigenetic response. Thus it's Self definition. But, important to note Fasting is multifaceted & food is only a small part of it. That is, there changes in Space & Time dimensions (quantitative and qualitative). Good study certainly helpful in confidence building.

@Erica Latif no we don't overeat at night, and if people are doing this then they are doing it wrong because that is not the idea at all. Intact the more days fasting the less the appetite becomes and by the end of that month the meal is very small indeed. This is done twice a year.

Very informative, thank you. Agreed that fasting may lower the high BP. But to maintain the right BP level shoud one has to continue fasting whole life ? Or do fasting occasionally?
@BuchingerWilhelmiFasting10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. Fasting occasionally is the best way to remain healthy, and in many of our patients, this proves to be a successful strategy to maintain a lowered blood pressure. Fasting is not a silver bullet, but something we should do regularly to follow the cycles of nature as we have always done in the history of humanity.

Thanks you for this study - I have high blood pressure and on meds- I have already lost 40 and 20 more to a normal weight but found the last bit was the hardest. IMF has helped but not seen a lowering of my BP. I am reaching out to my Dr to tell him I want to try a longer fast. Thanks for the study and the encouragement to take on a longer fast.
@bbsaid2183 жыл бұрын
I did IMF and low carb diet for about a year....but it was the prolonged fast (4 days) that I needed to kickstart the healing process. You can consume fat on your fast, such as butter, ghee, coconut oil, MCT oil and especially olive oil, which has blood pressure lowering properties anyway.Etc..(not processed vegetable oils) these will help cut out hunger cravings...it is carbs and protein that need to be eliminated for as long as possible to reverse insulin resistance. Olive leaf extract (tea) is also very effective. Cut out all processed foods and refined carbs and processed vegetable oils.

Besides unlimited amounts of mineral water, guests who are fasting at Buchinger Wilhelmi are offered herbal teas, freshly made vegetable consommés and freshly pressed fruit juices - naturally all organic. Fasting begins with a light vegetarian meal on the day you arrive followed by a digestive rest day. After you have completed the fast, you gradually build up your nutrition again over a period of four days - an intense and pleasurable experience and one which is vital for the success of your stay in the long term.

Thanks for sharing this informaition...I have lowered my BP significantly by water fasting for 2.5 days. I have changed my diet to Whole Food Plant based No SOS (salt oil and Sugar) and it is staying in the range that allows me to discontinue medication. I also run 3-5 miles most days. It was amazing to watch fasting achieve what I had been struggling to achieve with a better than average diet, excercise and medication. The medication was a bad experience for me. I am glad to be done with it. As important as documenting and sharing the affects of fasting on blood pressure I think it is critically important to present the ways to keep hypertension from reoccuring.
