Dr. Françoise Wilhelmi de Toledo, the Director of Research and Medicine of the Buchinger Wilhelmi Fasting Clinics sums up in this video the recently published Study on Fasting and the effects on the human gut microbiome published in the Journal of Nutritional Science.
Influence of ten-day fasting according to the Buchinger Wilhelmi program on the composition of the intestinal bacteria: an examination in fifteen healthy men published in the Journal of Nutritional Science
Colonization of the intestine with bacteria plays an important role in keeping people healthy. The current study examines the effects of a 10-day medically supervised periodic fasting according to the Buchinger Wilhelmi program on the composition of the intestinal bacteria and on immunomodulatory parameters in 15 healthy men. It has been found that fasting in healthy people reversibly changes the composition of the intestinal bacteria. While the effectiveness and safety of the Buchinger Wilhelmi program have recently been demonstrated in a study on 1,422 subjects, the study that has now been carried out is an important basis for further studies that are intended to investigate the effects of fasting on the microbiome of sick people.

Hmm. Interestingly enough, I used to hate vegetables. I tried fasting every other day for about a week and after that, I started craving vegetables. Vegetable I used to find gross suddenly started looking more appealing. Just an interesting observation.

@@Div_Ann how about the really cool part when you're past the most difficult 3 days then food stops having a terrible effect on your hunger. You can watch people eat and stuff. But the first few days you're so *hangry and the mere mention of food and you become rabid. Hahaha. Oh don't forget all the free time you get from fasting. Instead of preparing for food, eat, then wash up. Youve just saved like 3 or 4 hours.

@Deep Inside that's the thing. I'm not so picky with vegetables. Snap peas, broccoli, cauliflower, string beans, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, radishes, lettuces, bok choy, squash, eggplants and so much others. Dang.... So good. I used to be so picky. The only vegetable I haven't developed a liking to might be okra. This happened the first week or two after my intermittent fasting try.

Thank you for your comment! We do not recommend only water fasting, since it is very stressful for the body. According to the fasting method of our founder Dr Otto Buchinger, you can also take in teas, juices and soups, besides water. Our scientific studies show that it boosts your energy and does not break the fast. Watch our video for the explanation here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGfKZ51sa72LeZI

Hi Jennifer, we can highlight it in conversations, and like we are doing now. My thoughts are that we all wish to save tigers and elephants, which is wonderful, but the microscopic may not be given the same consideration, when it may be equally, or more, threatened. I don't know if it is. Nor do I know if humans are studying it with the idea that it may be under threat. But if it is, and if it was all the earth, then it may have consequences that most people might not realise the source. Just one more thing....... I went down with rheumatoid arthritis, which it turns out was caused by a very upset microbiom. By healing that, I am healed. And I didn't need to take the terrible drugs that they offered me. I ate foods that fed my microbiom, as well as exercises. So I worry about the earth's natural bacterias. Do they need to be protected. Can we raise their profile? Thanks for you ur reply. Have a good day:)

Jennifer, glucose is the preferred fuel of the brain, forcing the liver to make it from lactate that the muscles produce (Cori Cycle). The brain is made mostly of fat, which is the primary fuel of the heart (50-70% of its energy). Animal fats may fuel the heart better, but vegetable fats and fish oil might be less readily burned by the heart and serve as material for the brain. Olive oil was a key staple of the Roman Empire, and they also loved seafood. Fish may also provide neurofilament proteins that give neurons their important shapes.

I used to be chronically bloated as well it was severe. Unintentional circumstances Resulted in me not being able to eat full meals for 2 weeks. Most of the time I didn’t eat. When I did, I could only manage to eat red grapes or smoothies. During this time I learned about the benefits of broccoli sprouts. They are able to kill cancer cells, regulate hormones and kill ecoli in the gut. When I managed to eat again, I ate broccoli sprouts with every meal. They are very easy to grow, I grew them myself. I noticed immediately I had zero bloating. This was a huge breakthrough for me. I had tried everything. I’m still shocked I don’t bloat when I finish a meal. Now, the only thing hard to digest is the fact I no longer bloat. Im not sure if it was the fasting or the sprouts, or the combination of both, but whatever it was, I’m happy.

@roadArt132
@roadArt132 Жыл бұрын
@@sarabethmattis6099 hi Sara, yes. Well I'm not an expert on the matter but I get the impression that the way that the moon affects us or me at least during its different cycles throughout the year is that it affects the density and viscosity of the Blood, and so when it's more dense and has more viscosity we are more prone to inflammation and therefore that's when fasting is a good idea. And on the other hand there is one source of knowledge on this matter that I do trust and that has pretty solid scientific background, and that is in the Muslim religion, I'm not a Muslim myself but I have knowledge of their fasting traditions in the Ramadan. And they base this on the lunar cycles. And apart from the fact that Muslims pre-date us in many fields of knowledge, and they have a very solid ancestry as far as science and knowledge of the human body goes and many other things. Apart from that there's one thing that makes me trust this aspect of their knowledge more than ours, and that is the fact that their calendar, if it is based on the Ramadan which I believe it is, is not static like the Christian calendar, their calendar changes every year and molds to the lunar cycles and to how these affect us. Oh and i am a man, and i guess that makes me fertile yes for the most part of my life span.

Thank you for your question. We noted that and will cover the topic in one of our upcoming videos. Please stay tuned. We do not recommend only water fasting, since it is very stressful for the body. According to the fasting method of our founder Dr Otto Buchinger, you can also take in teas, juices and soups, besides water. Our scientific studies show that it boosts your energy and does not break the fast.

It would be interesting to see if during a 30 day or longer fast, if any of the microbes are completely eliminated.
@alicaramba7680
@alicaramba7680 Жыл бұрын
Microbes can survive in dormant state for many years. While fasting certainly will reduce their count in a gut it is very ineffective in eradicating them completely. Of course we speak here about unwanted pathogens. One thing is to remember - pathogens overgrows when there are good conditions for them to thrive. Many pathogens and yeasts like sugar so it needs to be cut from diet. It is almost impossible, so simply you need to avoid sweet products or consume them only in small quantities on rare occasions. Important, bad bacteria starts to grow already in your mouth once sugar is present. Next, normal conditions in a gut are anaerobic, meaning any excess of oxygen will stimulate growth of pathogens. You can help yourself by eating smaller chunks of food and taking more time of chewing before swallowing. In short, you need to eat slower. Another thing, if you get used to breath through mouth - drop it. But probably the most important thing is ''good'' bacteria which suppresses bad. Give a chance for good bacteria to thrive and bad pathogens will not be able to grow. I recommend of taking naturally fermented cabbage for close to 14 days. Buy 1.5 kg of cabbage (not 'fresh', and not imported, but locally grown, not packed, better of late autumn), ferment it yourself (there are plenty of YT videos on a subject) and starting from day 8 eat 100 g of fermented cabbage before breakfast each day without stopping fermentation. This way you will get various probiotics from various stages of fermentation for two weeks (days 8-22). Try it. BTW, if your gut will like fermented cabbage you will want it more - that's a great sign of healing gut. Just buy and ferment more cabbage. Also you can add a little of carrot, garlic, onion for more diverse probiotics. In rare cases your gut can reject fermented cabbage. In that case there is certainly a bigger problems with your gut other than just bad bacteria. And it can come from various other places other than gut. Ultrasound scan of your internals, colonoscopy may reveal problems. Some people in older age no longer tolerates acidic food but this comes mostly because of unhealthy diet these people were living on for prolonged time. Of course healthy smelling (huh?) and normally formed stool is bona fide indicator of healthy gut.

On a 3, 5, or 10 day fast, should you take salts, potassium or other supplements (if not working out), or will the fast not be as effective if things other than water are consumed?
@celenebalvaneda4848
@celenebalvaneda4848 3 жыл бұрын
During fasting you need to hydrate properly and water has minerals ( unless you're drinking distilled water) it is important that your hydration and your electrolytes are present during fasting. So yes, minerals are not just ok, they're necessary during a fast and making sure you're supplementing is essential. Water is not just about hydration, it is also as important in conductivity. We are electric bodies and if we cant comunícate internally via conductivity then we're hindering our efforts to improve. Vitamins on the other hand will interfere and break autophagy. You can produce vitamin D by tanning and once your microbiome starts getting healthier, it'll produce your B vitamins. By the way, to keep the B producing bacteria healthy, besides diet, sleeping, exercising, and lowering stress levels, it is important to maintain ( by producing and/or consuming) optimal levels of D vitamin. Namaste 🙏🏻 💗

Thank you so much. I had a small but probably dirty wound on my first fasting day that got inflamed the next day. A doctor prescribed antibiotics to take with a probiotic yoghurt, so that I don‘t have to cancel the fasting which is planned for ten days. What happens to the microbiom in this specific case? I fast every year since four years and still feel good on day 4 (probably a little more hunngry than the last times)

Davide Deblasio Completely wrong. 7 day water fast is the best way to heal any intestinal issues. If you have leaky gut but lack the self discipline, then do daily 16:8 intermittent fast plus a 24 hour fast once a week, drinking only water during the fasting window and cut out ALL processed/takeaway/packaged food, gluten and dairy from your diet between fasts ... eat mainly leafy green living foods and you will heal your leaky gut within 60 days!
