This scene is so important to illustrate why people describe it as like being in 'a washing machine'. Literally being thrown about with trees, cars, buildings, you don't stand a chance. And then people are like 'oh just swim', you're a puppet to the oceans power. It really is a miracle some people survived.

Random Videos the force of the current alone kills you or renders you unconscious. Debris just makes it even more like you’ll drown or be crushed. A tsunami is one of few disasters that once it hits there’s nothing you can do. You’re literally at the mercy of the wave.

Zach Hansen Because the real horror wasn't when the wave hit, it was after she surfaced. @@alyssaaab4762 how could anyone laugh at that? It perfectly showcases the human need to express extreme emotion - even to the point where it could be detrimental to survival. Her core instincts know she has to conserve oxygen, but letting out that primal scream willed her to survive. It cost her time but also fueled her with adrenaline. (That scream could also have been the moment she was flooded with adrenaline.. because it is insanely intense) Definitely a give and take situation.. but isn’t everything?

Am i the only one who saw the elephant in the water? Crazy. Also, she probably held her breath without knowing, i mean there was so much else going on that she had to worry about while in the water, like the flying objects coming towards her or her getting cut up by branches, her main problem wasn't holding her breath anymore. And usually while distracted from the thought of holding your breath, it's easier to hold it longer because it just a natural thing to do while underwater anyway.

Even as a natural disaster fanatic, this scene, when she coughs up debris in the hospital, and when it's revealed that she has a gaping hole in the back of her leg NEVER fails to disturb and give me chills. This film makes you realise just how powerless humans truly are when faced with natural disasters, and I personally love how this film makes you feel an utter sense of sheer dread and helplessness - just like what the actual family must've been feeling. I was in the shores of a california beach. And we were bobbing up the waves. And a big one came, i got swept under. And i rotated so many times. This was just a small wave, mildly taller than i was. I put my arms around my head. I was spinning and didnt know when id find the ground. Thankfully i didnt break anything, just got an uncomfortable amount of water and sand in my ears. It was my second time almost drowning. The first time was at a water park, where i was tip toeing just to have my mouth get some air. But it was raining, drizzling, and i stayed in the water. Everyone else got their floaties. I couldnt grab one in time, and the water level was rising. Thankfully the lifeguard knew what drowning looked like.

One of the worst ways to die. Literally being ripped limb from limb by the power of the water alone. Now add everything that the tsunami dragged along with it... moving past, and through you.

This scene was so well done and the actor who played Maria did amazing. When she they showed her closing her eyes, and then slowly rising above all the other ppl and then emerged to the surface, it felt like she didn’t wanna come back after this horrific ordeal but she came back anyway and got the gasp of air she desperately needed

Tom Holland is amazing for a kid in this movie! & Watts?! OMG! I had to turn away so many times Bc I was totally feeling her pain as she was screaming out. The way Holland tells her “I can’t look at u like this”. He’s so much older than he actually is.

The Tsunami scene in the movie: ‘The Impossible’ (2012) (along with the Tsunami in the movie: ‘Hereafter’ (2010) has to be the most: chilling, realistic tsunami scene I’ve ever seen in a movie. There is no musical score whatsoever, it’s all complete happenstance, as your just watching all those innocent people mothers, fathers, children old men and women just get obliterated by the tsunami, as it destroys everything in its path. Just watching those innocent people get swept by the wave as they scream in agony as they get swept through the debris and bushes underwater. You can literally feel almost everything in this scene. The Impossible (2012) and ‘Hereafter’ (2010) have the most realistic tsunami scenes i have ever seen in a movie.

@@jaymd1149 one of the reasons they didn't show it it's because they don't remember it, the youngest was like 5 years old. Maybe the dad could tell his story but I don't think the kids remember anything that happend in the water.
