The bands though, have long since let that go and both sides said that the fans really kept that going. I personally don't understand because I like both bands and everyone I know that is a fan of one still likes the other. I believe I saw on this channel, Church and J Mann say they'd be happy to tour but the opportunity never came up. The beef is really old news, most of you weren't alive when that was happening.

I was supposed to interview Corey before Amen went on, but (as usual) a mixup with the tickets & my pass meant I had to track the road manager down to sort it out & we ended up having to do it later in the evening -- which actually made for a better story 'cause I'm sure he had A LOT more to say than he would have before. This isn't what Mushroomhead looked like back then. They had a clown, a guy in a pig mask, a guy in a gas mask with spikes playing drums, among othe similarities in outfits and Mushroomhead had been wearing the gear sense 1994. It was just odd at the time that a year after Roadrunner trying to sign them they had a band that looked similar to their band. After Slipknot came on to the scene Mushroomhead changed to the way they dress today. Fan of both bands.

Given Mushroomhead's links to some of the cleveland hardcore crews(due to their links with bands like ringworm, integrity, one life crew etc) slipknot got lucky. They could have got battered. The incident where bands allegedly beat people up on slipknot's behalf never happened for the reason I stated above, during the 90s the hardcore crews were like gangs you fight a few of them you would have had many more jumping on you.

Shroomhead was my first concert on the back of simple survival release tour. They played eyeless and when I heard the opening I lost my mind seeing mushroomhead play it. Amazing first concert.

I’m from Cleveland and went to dozens of Mushroomhead show, huge fan. Love them. At the same time, when Slipknot emerged in 1999 I was immediately a fan. I took MAJOR heat from my Mushroomhead friends that I went to about every show with. I was at the Livin La Vida Loco show in Cleveland in 1999. It was a bit crazy. I doubt we’ll ever really know what went down w Road Runner but I’m super happy the got Slipknot signed and allowed them to develop into the powerhouse they became.

That's the only way anyone will truly understand what they're about and where they come from IMO. 🤘🏼💀 Other MH member bands. 216, State Of Conviction, Crossfader, Alter Boys, 10,000 Cadillacs, Pitch Black Forcast, Kria Diaz, Hatrix, Nothing, Ventana, Tenafly Viper, A Killers Confession and much more. I was at that show. The fights spilled out all over Nautica. There was one brawl that worked it's way up the bleachers in our section. It was crazy. My buddy jumped out of the way because there was 4 people in the brawl. We were there for Machine Head. The funny thing is Slipknot had the loudest set. Both Coal Chamber and Machine Head's sound through the PA sounded like it was cut in half in comparison to Slipknot.

Slipknot opened the show. They just had more sound that night. Nautica was never known for their sound quality in the PA system bands plugged into. Some shows, it would be real thin, while others it would blow your eardrums out.

I know what you mean. This was my fourth Machine Head concert. I saw them in 1997 open for Pantera and my first time was in 1995. Machine Head toured a lot and Coal Chamber practically lived in Cleveland during the late 90's early 2000's. I met Raina a few times. Once they opened for Type-O Negative. I like that I was part of this concert scene that defined my early adulthood.

I was there, And Corey is exaggerating about the end part. He was on stage and telling the crowd he would come down there and take care of things. And as for handling it the whole thing got broke up by the cops before any big fight started. Cleveland is a die hard city when it comes to music and sports. But when it comes to Slipknot vs. Mushroomhead they are 2 totally different sounds but I can understand why it happened. Mushroomhead had been grinding the ax for years busting their ass, and along comes Slipknot with the same look and stage act and have instant success over night.

I was at that concert and I saw a lot of fights. I went to many major concerts that year. I stayed out of the pit because it was crazy and later saw the video of the fight from the stage. I had already been to many Machine Head and Coal Chamber concerts so Slipknot and Amen were new to me. Most of us there just wanted to attend a concert with four bands and didn't get involved in a feud. I am still finding out about stuff that happened that night. Most of the fights in the crowd were fans brawling and they began and ended fast. That was at the old Nautica Pavilion; now Jacobs Pavilion.

I’m in the Cleveland music scene and I’ll just say there’s a reason slipknot headlines arenas and mushroomhead plays the outpost (500 cap venue) and convinces 20 local bands that it’s an “oPpOrTuNiTy tHaT cAnT bE mIsSeD” just have those bands sell those tickets at 25 a pop, to give those bands 1 dollar a ticket sold, to also have those bands play a 20 minute set with MHs shit ALL OVER THE STAGE. And then laugh their way out the door with all that money. Yes I’m still bitter I will NEVER the fuck again open for them. Slipknot is better in every way shape and form. I know a ton of people who have opened for them and it’s always the same story. They pray on these young (sometimes old” musicians who don’t know any better.

the first time I even heard and seen Slipknot I was like... yeah not interested in these clowns (at the time I didn't even realize there was a clown). BUT.... they started playing and I was like WAIT a damn minute! and that was it... I was hooked and became a maggot immediately. I'm from Cleveland, I found mushroomhead around the time I discovered 3 dollar bill by Limp Bizkit. I've always hated commercial radio so I would hunt through the bottom end of the radio dial for any college Station that would play off the wall music. Mushroomhead was among that mix. So naturally I'm a fan of mushroomhead, growing up when metallica hit big. As slipknot was killing the airwaves of commercial radio, I was excited for any hard metal hitting ears of the common folk. So as a supporter of metal, I naturally like slipknot. Who had the stage get up first, honestly I could care less. I ain't looking at the band as I'm in the pit!!

Musically I much prefer Slipknot. But as an Iowa guy that had bands even back when Slipknot got a break and that has been involved with the scene on and off ever over the years (now permanently off), I will say Mushroomhead has done more for Iowa bands than Slipknot ever has. Slipknot went out of their way to make sure no other Iowa bands were as successful as they were and there have been MANY well deserving bands in Iowa over the years. My former band, based out of Des Moines, was welcomed by Mushroomhead on many shows in both Des Moines and Cleveland and had discussions of touring with them which much to my surprise, my band did not pursue because it was refused by other members of my band before even getting to me, which was why I left that band resulting in it's demise since I was the main intellectual property rights holder and the only one capable of producing that particular bands sound. I didn't find out until many months later that touring with them was presented as a feasible option. I digress. My point was that Mushroomhead, a band whose music I don't particularly care for, has treated Iowa bands better than Slipknot. I know of at least one other Iowa band, possible two others that were welcomed to join Mushroomhead in Cleveland at a Mushroomhead hometown show. That said, I much prefer Slipknot's music but I prefer the members of Mushroomhead that I was able to get to know and work with, as people. In the end, now days, I am sure they have all matured, but really, as someone that is no longer active in music and no longer has any skin in the game, I do wish Slipknot would have supported or at least thrown a bit of light to the very talented Iowa musicians that deserved it, I'll say, especially in the late 90's when they broke out. Not sure what's left in the scene now days and TBH I don't really care anymore. As the Slipknot Album says, for me All Hope Is Gone.

I remember reading about it. Media kept saying that Mushroomhead kept brining up that they started the masks first. I recall, in the interview, when a Mushroomhead member said they wore the pig mask and friends called him and told him they didn't know he changed bands. He told them he didn't and they told him about Slipknot so he looked into it and saw Paul of Slipknot wearing a pig mask. So it seems that's the only tie anyone can make to the bands having issues with each other.

It's mostly about the man (Monte Conner) behind the mask of deceit who bears the blame more than anybody. Monte's the main reason why the conflict began between both bands & fans overlook or don't even know the whole truth to the story. Monte Conner was the VP of A&R @Roadrunner Records & bamboozled both bands. The whole thing got started when Monte went to a "Mushroomhead" show & besides the music he took notice of their idea they created to wear masks & costumes as a gimmick that set them apart from the rest. However, when "Mushroomhead" declined his offer to sign a record deal with Roadrunner Monte decided to play dirty & took their masks & costume idea to "Slipknot." Monte's approach mislead the members in "Slipknot" to believe he himself was the one who created this whole mask & costume idea & wanted to give "Slipknot" this new image that nobody else was really doing at the time. Which was complete f%$kin' BS! The only idea Monte came up with was stealing "Mushroomhead's" idea because he was pissed the band told him & Roadrunner NO! Been a fan of both bands for over 20 years..both are great..only flaw in either band is the fact Cory Taylor is an establishment hack who doesn't care about his fans and only pushes establishment talking points..but I'll continue to listen to both bands because that's how I roll

I've always been more of a Mushroomhead fan than a Slipknot fan...but throwing shit at a band on stage is a disgrace to our vast metal family. Both bands are Awesome and it truly broke my heart when Taylor's other band Stone Sour decided to retire. But we as a metal community should respect and support each other's bands. And Yes!!! I would love to see a Mushroomhead, Mudvayne and Slipknot tour!!! Peace and Love and Long Live Metal!!!!! 😎🤘🤘

I heard of the feud, but I honestly never encountered it much. Then again, not many people on my end of the world knew about either of them (maybe Slipknot, but they were grouped in with every other scary metal music, ooo). Whatever though, I was (and still am) a fan of both, because both are awesome in their own way. I have a medallion of the tribal-S sitting in between the eyes of the X-face logo, super imposed upon the 9 pointed star.

I enjoy much of Slipknot's music. I really enjoy Mushroomhead and am more of a fan of theirs. I think it was absolutely asinine for there to be any beef at all between fans because of the way one band looks compared to another. That's some real pettiness. Do we all love hard/heavy music? Yes. Why should it matter who's playing if we can enjoy both bands? I grew up listening to and loving both Motley Crue and Poison (long live hair metal, I guess) but most fans enjoy one or the other, not both. No one was throwing stuff at the bands or inciting anything absurd. Corey and Jeffrey are both amazing and talented vocalists. I'd love to hear them do something together.

Both bands have long acknowledged that this "feud" was between salty "fans" and had nothing to do with the bands themselves. These are artists expressing themselves, it's not some musical Halloween costume contest; you are allowed to like both bands.
