Great old video, thanks for putting it up. Just love the background music…. I think I saw a Vauxhall Viva in there somewhere. I remember in the 1960’s as a mechanic we changed a lot of timing chains on those cars, the chain and tensioners were a weak point. In fact the whole engine was very poor and rattly and they didn’t last long.

4:35 ...and todays lubricanting oils are beyond what they ever dreamed of back then. 30k km oil service intervals and all year service allowing serveral 100 k km engine life nevertheless. However, our North American friends still believe in their grandfathers wisdoms and wearing their drain plugs faster than the engine.

I use 10W40 for my car...but there are many merchants selling fake oil of shell.please introduce some method to check genuine oil. Like some code printed on botel to check its genuine or fake product.code should be put on your website to verify.

Hilarious that, the Hillman engine shown has NO seals 1592/1725 and all it's predecessors used no seals. Just a good design. Even the crank pulley is just a reverse scroll groove... Once it starts leaking it's a sign of excessive blowby or misaligned timing cover.

That is interesting; I had no idea an engine without seals was possible. I guess with the correct machining, it could be done. Are there any videos available about this engine? I don't think the US ever got any Hillman automobiles; I have never seen one in person; not even at car shows. @hsbhachu3d

​@@hsbhachu3dAny more info about Hillman or this engine. That brand was never exported to the US. Chrysler missed a small car opportunity when they sold that division before the oil crisis.

@jhoncho4x4 the car is a Hillman Super Minx. The engine is a 1592cc (1.6L)3 bearing crank with a tensile EN24 billet crank. The later engine was based on the 1592 but with a longer stroke, 1725cc but with 5 bearings.
