Well, surrendering their war capabilities to the UNSC to help against the Covenant would render all their sacrifices until that point meaningless. I fully understand the unwillingness to join the UNSC, and attacking UNSC facilities in order to supply your troops will improve your odds of defending your planet against the Covenant, way better than hoping UNSC would sacrifice their ships to help former enemies.

w0t3rdog Maybe, but it’s also shown that early in the war, some Innies were actually working for the Covenant in the hopes that they would be spared if they helped the Covies find Earth, kill Spartans, etc, with at least one case of their leadership deliberately sacrificing their fellow Outer Colonists to gain good will with the Covenant. At least they eventually gained their senses on the matter after the Covenant wiped out most of the Outer Colonies.

John Blaa They could vent the ships atmosphere. ODST armor is only rated for 15 minutes so you would only be worried about the spartans at that point. Which you could defeat by sealing every compartment and waiting for them to suffocate in their own armor. The point is when you have control over a spacecraft you can easily remove the issue of onboard resistance with only small pockets for a mop up team to take care of.

Every country (or, in this case, planet) has the right to self-determination if that’s what it’s people want. The UNSC’s reliance on the outer planets for food and raw materials could have been sustained by alliances and peaceful trade deals between the two instead of war. From what I can see, this wasn’t considered. The analogy between the British Empire and the American colonies is a good one. Isn’t that why the British wanted to keep America? If UNSC had gone for the peaceful option, it would have had firmer, more trusting, allies when the Covenant turned up.

I would love a game where you play as insurrectionists at the very start of the human-covenant war. My idea of how it would start: It would start on a outer colony world. UNSC fighting the rebels (that we play as) relentlessly. As the battle for this planet is in favor of the UNSC and is coming to an end, the UNSC suddenly pull back all forces. Almost as if they were running from something. The rebels cheered as the UNSC retreats, felling as if they were victorious. But then a few hours later, mysterious ships descend from the sky sending smaller mysterious ships to the ground. These ships drop figures that do not look human, but are armed and armored to the teeth. A member of the rebels nervously walks up to the mysterious figures, only to be instantly killed by the massive one with some sort of weird lazer sword. The rest of the rebels open fire and are decently holding the enemy off. However more and more drop ships bring more of these terrifying aliens. So what I’m asking for is a halo game from a rebel soldier point of view, a losing fight for survival like in Halo Reach, and a intimidatingly badass introduction of the covenant just like the one in the halo 4 forward unto dawn movie.

Considering that the UNSC practically unnecessarily escalated the conflict with the Carter doctrine, took control of public and civil administrations, made some pretty bad stuff with ONI, not even counting the strategically lacked operations which probably worsen their position than any other thing, I wonder why everyone on the outer and inner colonies despise the UNSC as a dictatorial organizations, which in the end was saved by the covenant invasion, if it wasn't for them the UNSC would probably lose their grip even in the inner colonies, they were slowly taking power and staging kind of a martial law with ONI, if they weren't so bad in the war they surely would impose their military dictatorship to humanity.

The Insurrectionists are ironically the main reason the UNSC was sort of prepared for the Great War of 2552. The MAC cannons, Archer missiles and all that advanced space weaponry was developed to fight the rebels on space at a time where most Human Military ships were mere troop transports with primitive armaments.....not to mention that the Insurrection gave birth to the SPARTAN program. That being said, I would love to get a Halo game where you fight both Covenant and Insurrectionists. Perhaps one based around Halo: the Cole Protocol....fighting in a three way fight pre-or post war would be an amazing Warzone scenario/experience.

To be 100% with the postwar actions of ONI the insurrectionists are justified in their existence. I doubt that ONI would stop its shady and heinous actions if the remaining insurrectionists stood down. Only time will tell however, though a Halo game where you play an insurrectionist fighting a three front war between the covenant remnants and the UNSC would be pretty cool. Kind of like a stealthier Halo3 ODST with some red faction thrown in.

Both sides were in the right and wrong simultaneously. Obviously ONI has done some pretty unethical stuff, and the UNSC should not have been so controlling and aggresive. Likewise, the insurrectionists should have tried to maintain diplomacy with the UEG, and not resort to terrorism. They should have tried to come up with a better solution, perhaps a union between several different human governments, or autonomy with compacts of free association, etc. The whole point being to maintain the integrity of the human species and the survival of the inner worlds while allowing the Outer Colonies to have more sovereignty

I would love a boots on ground Halo game that follow a citizen on a war torn planet watching covenant shake his life apart. Start off with him doing average tasks like walking a few blocks to get groceries or such in a populated city. Meet his family and see his home....then the war breaks out as insanely loud alarms raise and he tries to hide his family. A bomb detonates and he gets knocked unconscious. He wakes up in a refugee camp just outside the city trying to find his family as gunfire and explosions can be heard from deep inside the city. The sky is littered with ships and plasma fire along with anti-air weaponry. His planet doesnt have a major UNSC base so it's just sentries, local military and farmer's trying to defend themselves. He rushes to find his family but they were left behind. He has to go back through the city and find them. The whole game could be a stealth game showing how terrifying it is from a humans perspective. I imagine the first sight of a Brute or Elite to be horrible as they slaughter humans with no remorse. City power is dwindling so it would be post apocalyptic with barely any civilians around except those that are trapped and military rolling through. The military could claim that the UNSC on a nearby planet has not answered their call and they feel the UNSC has abandoned them. This could spark our characters joining the Insurrection and being the introduction to a more aggressive UNSC force that refuses to spare lives and wants to control forerunner tech to wipe out the covenant species from existing. This creating a new threat besides just the banished.

If I was born on another planet, known that my whole life and never been to earth, why the fuck would I have loyalty to Earth. @@michaelaforeman3393 The thing is, UEG/UNSC didn't really interfere with the affairs of the outer colonies; CAA was the organization that was used to administer the outer colonies, while technically the part of UEG, it was really only loosely connected to the government back on Earth; mainly due to the limites of the UEG/UNSC's FTL technology at the time. It was the excessive corruption within CAA that lead to oppression; ironically enough the CAA was mainly composed of people from the outer colonies. So the people of the outer colonies themselves were responsible for their own oppression. By the time UEG/UNSC learned what was happening in the outer colonies, the people of the CAA had turned the opinion of the outer colonies against the government back on Earth. Furthermore, most of the ordinary civilians of the outer colonies don't really like the insurrectionists either, especially after it turned violent.

I think looking at the story from the perspective of the first halo games your meant to believe the unsc is in the right but the whole reason rebellions exist is because they've been stepped on by their government in some way, no one starts a rebellion because their life is so great and free and they have so much money, its a lack of those things. Rarely is a rebellion or a resistance classified as insurrectionists by the government thats persecuted the people to begin with, turn out to be wrong. Maybe they commit war crimes, but usually rebellions are the fault of the corrupt government. There are a few examples of insurrections, rebellions, etc. That are misled, and are fooled into feeling a certain way, for example a very recent American insurrection was doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. We should storm the capital and make these corrupt bastards feel scared like we do when we cant keep our lights on and kids bellies full, but they did it for a certain lying racist pos sore loser that refuses to accept that he lost and has some how tricked all these people into voting against their own best interests as well as into thinking hes on their side which he isnt, hes on the side of himself and billionaires, he only hurt the average person and helped the rich get richer as a rule and theres a few exceptions like the stimulus he okayed at the end of his term to look good but his whole party voted against the most recent stimulus because their all evil. So is 90% of the dems too but 100% of reps are evil. Insurrections and rebellions are started because of government corruption and or incompetence, but sometimes u get ones that are confused and just know theyre getting screwed over but dont really know whos actually screwing them over (trump, republicans, fox news, mainstream democrats who are actually conservative democrats like biden, harris, corey booker, nancy pelosi, etc. All centeists and conservative democrats who serve the rich, tho biden has done really well so far) and who's actually trying to help them (bernie sanders AOC, tulsi gabbard, democratic socialism etc.)

Its a shame as a civilization that had advanced so much to be blind to needs of its people, the governing body of humanity should've adapted and improved to suit the extensive territory we had inhabitted, the UN was only really suitable to govern one or a few planets, but when we had such an exstensive reach, a union that had representitives from all the colonies should've been created as to include those in the outter colonies so they didn't feel so helpless in the desicion making of their future, this is what breeds resentment and then rebellion to one's helplessness to dictate ones own future.

At first the UNSC was in the wrong, but then the insurrectionist took it too far with multiple civilian deaths and not allying with the UNSC during the human-covenant war, which ultimately decided the fate of humanity.

i mean heres where the good part of the story gets. the morality gets blurred. ever heard of the saying "one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter". yes some of the insurrectionists were brutal but its not like the UNSC was doing very good at de-escalating the situation, especially with ONI and its shady dealings. 2 wrongs don't make a right but you could mentally justify doing horrible things if it meant freeing you and your family from a government you perceive as horribly opressive (which was often the case). in reality, if the covenant war hadn't happened, its likely the insurrectionists would have one out over time. the UNSC was out stretched as it was, and the inner colonies were getting sick of an extended war just to keep outer colonies in line, and the insurrectionists, both extremist and not, were not going to stop revolting ever. i mean look at america in iraq for an example. no matter how much time we spent there, or how much money we poured into the place, or how many soldiers we had there, we couldn't change the people's disdain. couldn't change the culture, and after a while the people at home were just sick of the whole thing. the UNSC just couldn't substain the war and the PR situation was getting harder and harder. even sargent johnson was having his doubts about the whole thing in the start of the book "harvest" (essentially the book detailing the start of the human covenant war). realistically given a decade or more the UNSC would lose the public support and be exhausted. and even after all the fighting, they would still get most if not all the resources from the outer colonies. the colonies still have those resources, and would be more then willing to trade with their only trade partner.
