OMG! Because of this video, I ordered the Loop & Weft. It blows my mind. So soft and pillowy. I recently tried on the $185 Samurai Zero t-shirt and, though it's a different kind of t-shirt altogether, I far prefer the Loop & Weft. The natural dye "black" color is more of a dark charcoal grey and will lighten up more with repeated washings. If you're looking for a deep black colorfast t-shirt, looks elsewhere, but if you're looking to embrace textile artistry at its highest form, look no further than Loop & Weft.

compact yarn is a spinning technique that puts additional pressure at the point of spinning - which as you said - means less visible loose strands and a cleaner look. BUT It can also be a little bit of a cheat to use shorter fibre cotton in yarn weights that usually require longer fibres to hold. It is a manner of balancing cost. It also is a specific look vs open end. Most of my favourite print t's from my youth were on open end in a beefy t weight - which had a way of shrinking and wearing, that just made them look tough. As a garment professional, I know sometimes T's should be clean...and then there are fashion swings that make me like clean, and then let me like raw.... Things like Tencel, Modal, Interlock rather than single jersey, compact spun, single mercerized and the like are all possible to get a cleaner look...while open end, maybe using carded or semi-carded yarns, brushing or some other techniques give you that more raw look. So many trade offs - it is what makes a simple list almost impossible to do. But also a reason you sometimes find something amazing at Kohl's, Costco, or any part of the Abecrombie group

I have an unbound merino t shirt, which is 100% fine merino wool. I like it quite a lot! it was a bit long so I hemmed it myself, but man the magical qualities of merino stand out. Ive washed it in a machine once since getting it a few months ago and (aside from running the pits under the sink to rub off my deoderant residue) it still smells clean. Its also cool enough for summer. Cool shirt, although probably not as tough as Wool&Prince

I am obsessive about white t-shirts and own almost every possible t-shirt from every category. Easily 100+. I know it seems crazy but the Sunspel Sea Island really is the greatest shirt of all time. The softness and drape is unlike anything else I've tried. It's cost makes it inaccessible to most, which sucks, but the cost is justified. Nothing has compared, and I've tried them all. Other great shirts: Merz B, Warehouse 4601, UES Ramayana, John Elliott Crop, 3sixteen Pima, Bronson. Shirts that I think are overrated/overpriced: Tezomeya, Whitesville, Velva Sheen, Buzz Rickson, Mister Freedom (cut way too long), Reigning Champ, all the other Sunspel non-sea island shirts.

Bronson sells directly on sites like Taobao as well. I've purchased through them for much cheaper, albeit it was a huge pain and I likely wouldn't do it again. It came out to be somewhere between $10-$15 per shirt (the non-loopwheel, I believe "nonstock" branded) shipped, versus the $25 per shirt as sold on the US facing site. The sizing is way off because they use sizing used in Asia - for example, I'm between a L and XL in US sizing, I had to order XXL in the Bronson.

When washing your shirt in the video, are you using a "normal" cycle? Are you washing on a cold or warm temp? Also, are you hand or machine-drying? I would love it if you used a normal warm-wash cycle with machine drying and measuring the shrinkage results thereafter. I'm constantly on the hunt for a premium tee that has the qualities and doesn't shrink much, or at all. Unfortunately, I can't get myself to hang dry my clothes due to space and time needed. Again - sourcing profession here: First time I heard about speed of machine being a factor was at one of the worlds largest shirt companies almost 20yrs ago. They brought in expert weavers from Europe on a consulting contract - and one of the first hacks they told them was to set their machines to 75% speed and 10% lower on tension, as the slower speed put less abrasion on the fibre, and the lower tension also let that fibre settle better. Anyone who has hair that takes 2 days after a haircut to settle down, will have an innate understanding of that concept. It does lead to a better "hand" to the fabric. But I can imagine that at some extremely slow speed, you might have so little tension that spirality in the wash becomes an even bigger issue - but maybe the heavy weight yarns might make that less of an issue. Next to your measurements of shrinkage in length and width, spirality might be something to look at - as that becomes one of the most annoying things when wearing it - as it feels like it is cut on a bias, and pulling against you near the waist line - and "seamless" does not actually prevent spirality - it makes it more difficult to see - but still exists, sometimes worse. The post knit bailing that Samurai claims, is pretty much industry standard at anyone who gives even the slightest damn. like the haircut example, after the stress to the fibres of going through the knitting machine - you want it to settle maybe a day or two before going off to get dyed and have all the other processes done. I don't see hardly anyone anymore leaving it as a roll as it is at the bottom of the machine - most spread it back out and it looks like a bunch of messy laundry piles - upsetting order loving product managers on factory tours. But you have to have those 2 to 4 days to just let it rest...but not much longer, or creases will show up.

When speaking of white T-Shirts, the reason those stains are so hard to remove is because the shirts have been bleached, which strips the cotton of many of its natural properties including its natural stain resistance. But also, the super-whiteness of the bleach just makes any stain stand out like crazy when compared to natural raw cotton. If you have ecru jeans, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
