During the Vietnam War, Army Capt. Keene (Beau Bridges) is taken prisoner by Ho (Liem Whatley), a teen member of the Viet Cong, and moved to an enemy base. Once there, Ho learns that Col. Tuong (Haing S. Ngor) plans to abuse Keene. The young man -- certain that Keene could have killed him but opted not to -- disregards Tuong's orders and brings Keene to another base, where he might receive better treatment. Keene and Ho get to know each another on the trip, but it's a trying journey.
For education, entertainment and enlightenment. We hope you enjoy and even learn something.

Another CANNON Great One! I can still smell the dope and snacks smell of the local video shop that we watched this in!!! By now, we'd been watching these Vietnam movies for around 5 or 6 years by 89. This one was one of the last good ones.

As another viewer noticed this movie featured a Bell 212 Twin-Huey as a gunship! True the 212 was not used in the war! The primary troop carrier/medivac was the Bell UH-!D/UH-1H which were called "slicks" due to no armament other than door mounted M60 machine guns! Many of these Vietnam war movies were filmed in the Philippines using government armed forces air assets going all the way back to movies like Apocalypse Now to Hamburger Hill! The UH-IH is an iconic chopper used in war and commercial applications all over the world! A Legend!!!!

The Vietnam Captain Tuong in this film is the famous Khmer actor, also featuring Dith Pran in the "The Killing Fields". His name is Heng S. Ngor. He was a gynecologyst MD in Khmer Republic and survived The Khmer Rouge years in Democratic Kampuchea. I strongly recommend to everybody to read Ngor's remarkable memoirs "The Cambodian Odyssey".

Still is in my opinion, the gross violence and scenes of horrendous injuries, the way that the film is about more than just the war, there is a human emotional connection and the acting, camera work and everything else is, in my opinion, great and has stood the test of time.

I wouldn’t have gone that far but I do think that there should have been some consequence to there actions, if we put all of our political and military leaders on trial every time they ordered a military action and getting service personnel killed or injured we would never have a stable (if ineffective) political government anywhere in the world. I don’t have the foggiest idea how to apply consequences upon them because they were doing what they believed was the best course of action for the countries involved.

@@joelamthach5812 I don’t disagree with you but I think you should also consider adding JFK, McNamara, Westmorland, all the joint chiefs, and Nixon, they started the whole slide into full blown American involvement, they oversaw the most intense and costly years and the debacle of American withdrawal, the were also responsible for the deaths of all the allied forces fighting under American control and ignored the advice of many senior allied leaders who told them, through experience, that they needed to change tactics, but sometimes good people make mistakes, and that is what they did, big mistakes.

@@allandavis8201 oh I definitely will add your list into that group of politicians whose policies based on their lack of knowledge about economics and history of the world… these inept politicians only see the symptoms but they don’t see the cause of the problems…and that’s deadly… the lesson from Vietnam cost lives of millions of which my family and I still paid for it until now growing up in a family my father was a lieutenant commander of South Vietnamese Navy at That time of full blown US involvement in Vietnam 🇻🇳..the lesson is the arrogance of our leaders and politicians who are disrespectful and egomaniac…and their leadership ls would force to relocate resources and lives that would destroy millions of underserved communities years later… We were blessed with the work and experience of senators like McCain and Kerry that keeps America safe and prosperous… those blessed politicians experienced the devastating of war action and acted with consideration and integrity…the effect still lingers in modern day time… one of those dangerous politicians is Madam Clinton..arrogant and short tempered.. a college girl then lawyer under big time blunder Nixon..a woman who never experienced death and suffering of war war…trying to lead the Americans and world and the first thing she did was to call Putin a thug… her stupidity would have caused a WWIII if she was to be elected as a president..a full blown confrontation with the Russians with their Nuclear head arsenal on the submarine fleets would turn the earth into Jupiter..the lesson from Vietnam would give way to a better understanding the world in which not everyone blessed with best democratic institutions as such in American systems where majority win in civic elections and debate deep- rooted in Greek and Roman culture start way BC times..in which took over 200 years of hardship and blood to build…unfortunately that wasn’t the case of Russians… they are obviously not Americans … not at all.. I been to 🇷🇺 Russia and seen them live and work and struggle as a young man as a medical student volunteered in Red Cross.. the lesson from Vietnam are used but still our top politicians still don’t understand completely their history their country their culture and their system… world are trying to be like American and act like Americans but they are not Americans..my point is that our leaders don’t change American public don’t get educated then Vietnam experience will happen again and again but this time not 57,000 US soldiers and 300,000 South Vietnamese… but in millions and millions…. The flaw is that our vision of democracy don’t apply fully in case like Russian and their Slavic counterparts or brotherhood I would say.. American and world leaders do not understand their thousand year history involving both cultures and systems… the Russian always consider Kiev a their root and the mother of Russians… their motherland is Kiev.. let me put it this way.. let say … for example the new young charismatic Harvard grad - billionaire-turn into politician and voted mayor of DC and next day he declare independence from USA.. and 90 % of DC citizens agreed with him.. what would Americans react? What would you think? … and immediately Canada and Mexico and European Union recognize DC as a country… what would you think? If Americans and you and I would accept then world would like Russians to accept that… the fact is 77%of Russians sided with Putin… and what are we doing ? The US and EU will start a fight again like the way US politicians thinking of a Domino Effect 60 years ago? What is the effect? World enjoyed the cheap natural gas from Moscow and American companies like McDonald and Starbucks and CostCo and HomeDepot cash in billions to our Economy.. now whooff!! .. all gone.. and again the defects seen in Middle East where Russian and American allies start their own fights… consequently America will respond by sending billions of dollars worth in weapons and ammunition to one side and the circle continues and who know how and what would trigger a nuclear confrontation…?Mr Biden is a good family man.. a community leader who built a strong American coalition.. hurrah to his efforts but his lack of understanding in world politics and history is deadly… when to continue to confront Russia where endless oil and natural gas and military power are at their disposal.. it is stupid and unacceptable to continue a nonsense approach… American are home of the free and the brave and not the arrogant and dangerous…

It took a long time for Beau Bridges to get from Captain to General!!!! he even had to swap branches of the military to do it. @ 10:06 I thought 💭 this film was called “The Iron Triangle” not “Day of the Triffids”. I wonder if the VC or the NVA had a similar issue that the United States 🇺🇸 military had with soldiers taking drastic measures because of what they saw as poor leadership that was going to get them all killed, “fragging”, I ask this question because if I was “Comrade Ho” I’d probably have bad thoughts 💭 about the “party official” obviously he wasn’t a bad military leader he was just a minor party official who thought he could throw his literal and metaphorical weight around, the kind of person that would have no qualms in making up situations and reporting them to higher authorities that might get a young VC into very serious trouble, and maybe the young VC might decide to “frag” him, anyone know if that ever happened?. If I was the French bodyguard @ 20:42 I would not have been armed with an SMG, a very poor weapon by modern standards and not exactly the best weapon for a bodyguard when there were plenty of better weapons available, the M-16, AK-47, the FN/SLR to name but 3, the latter two had excellent stopping power using a 7.62 FMJ round but that made them heavy and with extra ammunition difficult to carry and use, the AK-47 was also a 7.62 round but the weapon itself was a lot lighter, easier to maintain and very reliable, the M-16 developed into a better weapon than when first introduced but didn’t have stopping power using, I think, a 5.56 round designed to incapacitate not kill, personally I would have an AK-47 with a folding butt, far better than anything else I have used or heard about for the situations that could occur. Don’t get me wrong, I am really enjoying this film, and not for the first time, and that has allowed me to really appreciate the storyline and the characters behaviour, and whether or not it was deliberate how they behaved or not they do have character traits that are easily recognisable, the Captain (Beau Bridges) has a naivety about the whole situation and what he is there to do, yes he wants to keep his troops, and himself, alive but still wants to be able to complete his mission, seemingly to engage with the civilian population but also to gather prisoners, as you would want too, but from everything I have seen and heard the Vietnam war was totally different from any war the USA had ever been embroiled in, the very nature of it was something the French 🇫🇷, and then the United States 🇺🇸 and allies, failed to understand and did not change their entire approach and operations to make them more effective, and unfortunately that was why the VC/NVA always had the upper hand, but the worst thing about the French and American forces forgot or ignored was that they were in a different country and they were not in charge, they were only there because of the political hierarchy believing that Communism was sweeping through Asia and could cause a shift in the global status quo, obviously we know that was not the case (hindsight is wonderful) and they were fighting a lost cause, perhaps if the political and military leaders had changed how they commanded and fought the war then maybe, just maybe, the end result could have been different, but unfortunately they didn’t and believing that they would prevail was a huge mistake and showed how self important they had become.
