I think part of the reason that bad jobs, relationships, etc. can still be really hard to ISFJs to leave is due to their desire to preserve harmony. Comfort is definitely part of the equation, but it’s not the whole equation. For instance, I had a lot of trouble leaving a SpEd position that on paper was very much suboptimal. I was overworked, grossly underpaid, and had a very inconsistent relationship with my supervisor. Yet I was so worried about how the kids and my coworkers would respond to my leaving, how everyone would bounce back… that I ultimately stayed longer than was healthy for me. An ISFJ with a low sense of self-worth and boundaries can easily get sucked into this sort of situation and find escaping difficult for this reason, even when they themselves recognize that they’re miserable.

Si is like a comfortable car that keeps driving rather slowly, but because it's knows the route that avoids any traffic jams and traffic lights, it arrives at the same time as the Se sports car that was speeding up and slowing down constantly. Also, while it arrived at the same time, it took less gas because it could just keep driving and the drive was comfortable, yet with the same result. Also, because it's used carefully, it will likely last longer then the sports car that kept hitting the brakes and speediing up as quick as possible. I think this is is often what you see in types with Si (even lower). With each time something is done that is ind of like something that has been done before, it trries to optimize. For example, optimise effort vs reward or optimise time vs reward.

I'd like to add that ISFJs can also be leaders, which is often overlooked. Maybe a bit of a controversial typing but I actually believe that Gus Fring from Breaking Bad is an ISFJ. This sort of godfather-like uncanny ability to form connections (Fe) and also enjoying it "superficialness" and to read the room while also being very meticulous (Si).

I can see what you mean with Gus. He has this sort of vibe I see with lots of ISFJs where you can sense they control what comes out. Also him wanting to be precise and careful in the way things operated ..(at least, I watched this stuff once when it came out so i hpoe my impressions are correctly remembered)

4:08 Before I knew anything about typology, I used to think of comfort as more one-dimensional. To me, it was dopamine seeking and indulging in modern day addictive stuff like technology (I was a YT head for a while and would watch stuff almost all day, until I landed a job). But then I learned there’s a difference between 21st century generation comfort vs. Cold War generation comfort (I had a long talk with my dad last night sharing my appreciation for his efforts, and then asking Q’s about his concerns and difficulties, and then realizing that they’re way, way different from mine). What’s comfortable to me may not be comfortable to somebody else (like his reluctance to drive an EV over a gas vehicle due to some of the mechanics being very different, or switching over to mobile banking) This may be my 21st-century, former gaming addict bias, but I used to think comfort and feeling pleasures was one and the same. Now, I realize that comfort, when talking about it, is more conceptual than that, and in isolation, is more about what a person knows from individual experience, which COULD be dopaminergic or self-indulgent. But it could also be pushing through pain and hard work as mentioned in this video. Si, a cognitive function with a high degree of variation in outward manifestation, is one of those things that fascinates me about typology and why I feel the need to incorporate more of an inside-out approach in trying to understand people (and maybe eventually coming to a conclusion about their type) and not just looking at their actions alone.

And this also helps with handling tough situations with a calm demeanour, contrary to other people that panics or stresses out of control... you are feeling the pain, but you are able to focus or redirect it during the time when a clear mind and a clear objective is required. I think that the Knight archetype also applies, as the ISFJ looks to help others regardless of their characteristics and do what is right, even if that means more struggle... you just move forward. I associated this type, which i am included in and maybe biased, with the Battleships or Battlecruisers role in naval warfare... they are there, holding and protecting the supply lines, dont take the vanguard but everyone can trust that he will be the last to fall in the defense as long as it is something thathe cares about, and even if the person doesnt care... you do your best to lend a hand.

Yet another type description that just makes sense! Gotta admit, I do know 1 isfj that I absolutely don't get. He's basically all about comfort to a fault. Helpful to those in a social sense, but hardly about sailing unchartered waters at all. I'll send him this vid but I'll probably get zero reactions cause of that Si vibe check 😂

CHAPTER 1:😅I think the unsaid part about why an ISFJ might be a nurse is... that part of our brain that notices intricacy, or detail that others wouldn't notice. This can enable a timely caretaking response to a catalog of details that might suddenly add up, and give us a hunch or an insight about something noteworthy that has just become part of our awareness. it's the familiarity with that nudge from a deeper part of our mind that we can get good at responding to. We can walk around more aware of the immediate moment more than other types... more consistently than most I think. So I can have an important revelation from my non conscious mind. I also relate to an ongoing desire to optimize to make life better. I think ISFJ wants to learn new things..we aren't STUCK in old habits. Show me a more optimal, attractive way. I might take some convincing, because I'm comparing and contrasting the details. I have had a head injury that was very life changing, and yet I still seem more alert than many people around me. I can usually process info fast, and efficiently..unless I'm tired. Caretaking is an extension of our ability to hone things, and a belief that it is important to... to improve life.

I recently found out that I am an ISFJ-T person but there are times that I am not comfortable with crowds and feel like shutting down and avoiding the situation. Is it normal?
