The world of K-pop concerts is facing a growing crisis, and it’s leaving fans furious. The popular phenomenon of overpriced tickets, last-minute tour announcements, and service fees is turning the live experience into a nightmare. With fans now paying exorbitant prices for mediocre shows and even witnessing the cancellation of entire tours, the dream of seeing their idols live is rapidly becoming a costly burden. In this video, we dive deep into the financial strain K-pop fans are facing as the industry prioritizes profit over the passion and loyalty of their supporters.
As K-pop becomes more popular globally, ticket prices continue to skyrocket, with some tickets reaching a shocking $17,000 on resale sites. This is not just a problem for fans-it’s a cultural shift that could change the future of K-pop itself. Despite measures like banning ticket resellers and banning dynamic pricing systems, fans continue to feel the sting as the entertainment industry gets greedier by the day. This video will explore how these issues are pushing fans to their breaking point and why they’re ready to push back.
Is the K-pop concert experience still worth it? Fans are asking the tough questions as ticket prices continue to soar, but the quality of the performances declines. In some cases, rushed tour announcements are leaving fans scrambling and unable to plan for the shows. We’ll take you behind the scenes of this controversial shift and look at the growing backlash from loyal fans, who are no longer willing to let companies exploit their devotion for profit.
With the once vibrant connection between fans and idols beginning to crack, this video highlights the tough reality facing the K-pop industry. Can fans save the heart of K-pop concerts before it's too late? Tune in and find out what’s really happening behind the glitz and glamour of K-pop tours.

As long as there are fans who are willing to pay these outrageous ticket prices, I don't see anything changing anytime soon. Companies don't care if a show isn't sold out, if the people that did buy a ticket paid $500 to $1000 each.

They care about bottom line losses. VIP sales only cover so much of the cost to rent the venue, pay the visas, all the transport, the staff.... At some point the company is losing money it can't recoup. We may start seeing smaller companies pull back on the number of tours or go the route of regionally touring in places like the US with a lot of dates, but rotating to different regions each tour. What that sets up is a group is on tour each year, but not to the same cities. Powerful acts like BTS are the ones who'll have to say, no, we're not using dynamic pricing for one, and maybe adopt more of a Western model of announcing tours far enough in advance for people to plan.

I don’t understand how you can be a ㅏ-Pop fan and complain about companies being greed to no end. That’s the essence of K-pop. You can complain and “explode” on the internet as much as you want. The only way to change something is to not buy tickets. Why would companies sell tickets cheaper if they sell out at higher prices. Also what weird complaint is having to choose between artists. I would be happy if there are two interesting concerts in a year.

I had to jump thru so many hoops to get tickets for the Stray Kids Maniac Tour back in 2022. I don't remember how much the tickets were since my friend bought them, not me. But it was such short notice and I had to ask for time off from work since I didn't live in any of the states they were performing in. So I had to pay for transportation as well. But there was another worker scheduled for vacation that week, and coincidentally it was one I couldn't overlap with cuz we held the same position. So I had to beg them to cancel their vacation so I could go, I felt so bad. Luckily he was only gonna do a staycation, had nothing planned at the time. And he ended up finding out later his family from out of state was going to visit him the following month, so it allowed him to switch his vacation to another week. In the end it all worked out but gosh that was stressful!

With ATEEZ - The official announcement for the US tour wasn't super early because of the contract clause with Coachella - but they had already performed a few dates in Asia so we knew it was coming. Tickets were Really Expensive so it would have been nice to know that before they went on sale. But you know what - at least they put a lot of that money on stage. The worst thing is that their show, honestly, is not worth it. I saw them in 2022 in mexico, i pay almost the half of that price (400 dollars i mean) that is really expensive mostly because the venue was TO SMALL and was selled as a BIG CONCERT, and the end result was a mediocre show. One screen that fails in a lot of songs, playback audio tracks, and a performance that wasnt nothing compared to their shows in korea or those music shows like inkigayo, music bank, etc. The only GOOD thing is that the girls singing live, and the fans energy, because aside of it, they look tired (even shuhua fails on stage), and if wasnt for the fan experience and the live singing, honestly, could be one of the worst concerts that i even been there. Aespa was another example, i saw them in 2023, and the same, the stage was nothing that was selled in the promos, super expensive, almost 1000 dollars and the show was super boring, just saved by the fans energy and even the live singing of the girls, the rest was a real mess. and the elephant in the room was that horrible Blackpink concert, that if you ask it to a young blinks, they told you that was the most amazing experience ever, because their are young and for them EVERYTHING will be awesome. But most of the fans with 20 years or more age, knows that the show was LAME, boring, the girls literally look so boring, the stage was a joke, literally the same as g idle (a damn screen, with some very little pyro things wooooow ¬¬). But the most insulting thing is the price. That damn concert cost amost 2000 dollars and more if you get the VIP package, for a show that was mediocre in all the ways. So yeah, kpop concerts are really lame outside korea and japan, very few, VERY FEW artist gives a real performances that are worth it to see.

ATEEZ told us to start saving in December 2023 and that they would be coming to the US in 2024. People knew they should have been saving. They also were contractually obligated by Coachella to not announce or sell tickets to other show's prior to the festival happening, so they put tickets on sale honestly as soon as they could. Their concerts are more than worth the ticket price. There are no underwhelming shows to be had with Ateez. So it's not just a matter of 4th gen being disappointing. It's now really business rather than experience. It's like pressuring you to choose a course, and after you've chosen one, you'd have that feeling, "maybe I should've chosen this or that. Some people don't get to experience it anymore and choose to just be a fan waiting for a miracle, like meeting their idols unexpectedly. And some just buys merch knowing it's the only thing they can afford. In simple terms, kpop concerts are now business for profit, and will never be affordable for mass audience.

I feel like a lot of people are forgetting that with the way the economy is right now, it’s really not a surprise that concert pricing keeps increasing. Literally everything is rising in cost and at this rate we’re gonna end up paying for air to breathe. Also I see a lot of yall blaming the idols/companies and calling them “greedy” but yall gotta realize that it’s not just the idols getting paid, the organizers of the venue/arena/stadium, the security, backstage staff/tech crew, background dancers (if any), band (if any), etc etc etc, all have to be paid as well. The money we pay to purchase tickets gets distributed among all those people and the bigger the stage, the more workers it’s going to be getting paid.

I'm from South Africa. I had to fly from South Africa to Netherlands to see Ateez, and the lowest level VIP ticket I got cost more than my monthly rent. To be fair, even artists performing locally are pulling prices like this, but it really limits which people can afford to attend these events. Chances are, this will be the only K-pop concert I'll ever get to see, but they are my ult group so I bit the bullet and spent a small fortune travelling to see them. I definitely won't be doing this for other groups.

As a new Army , I can confidently say that the challenges facing both new and old fans are significant. The reality is that millions of devoted fans may never get the chance to see BTS perform live. This is largely due to the outrageous ticket prices and the limited touring schedule. The demand is so high that tickets vanish in mere minutes, leaving countless fans frustrated and empty-handed. This situation not only strains our wallets but also diminishes the sense of connection we share as a community. Moreover, the flawed record label system in Korea exacerbates these issues, making it increasingly difficult for fans to access and support the artists they love. 2026 Gonna be heartbreaking year

One thing that makes the kpop industry so scary and gross is how pricey things are. The idols may not even be aware of the ticket prices, or they may not agree, because at the end, money-laundering conglomerates like Hybe especially, will do whatever it takes to milk some stans for their money. Yet another reason why a lot of people judge armys a lot. Not the normal ones, the weird ones, who'll sell their kidneys for money for fancalls, fanmeets, concerts, albums and merch. These days, it's barely about music, but money. Money, money, money. A quick cash grab. It's a competition out there. A slaughterhouse. And tge companies make it worse, just as much as the fans who encourage them.

I agree that part makes sense. I think what people have an issue with is the dynamic pricing you see at so many concerts now, esp in the west. A general $150 ticket in Korea might be $600 in the US, ok understood. But that same general $600 seat becoming $5000 because of the demand (not even a VIP standing spot) is what's ridiculous. Add to that the fact that there are fees on top of it and when you get to checkout, that $600 that became $3000 or $5000 is suddenly $7500. That's what one of the biggest problems is 😢

Totally agree, we don't have to be FOMO, make sure to already checked every aspect as possible in order to make our concert experience worth. But most important of them all is to make sure we really like the group, don't get easily influenced to come to a certain concert when you barely know abt the group/singer (I've experienced this when I came to a local concert in my city, and I felt so sorry for the artist bcs I couldn't really enjoy their perfomances (though they already prepared well) due to my lack of knowledge of their discography😭) Also I've seen some cases happened in my country where everyone are getting FOMO to watch a kpop group concert, they bought a VIP ticket but they ended up seated FAR AWAY from the stage and see nothing but the screen, and most of the audience are not even fans, they only know one or two songs from the group and don't even know abt kpop concert culture where we are supposed to raise our phone maximum to our eye level so people behind us can also see the artists (this fact really heartbreaking for the real fans who wants to come to the show)

The ATEEZ tour isn't the best example. They announced they are going on tour in December 2023. That was the moment to start saving money. I know those companies are greedy, but poor money management on fans end is not their fault. Learning how to save money is important. Tours generally aren't announced out of the blue, ticket sales are. Another thing is, everybody is obsessing over VIP tickets, you will have fun even with regular tickets (or maybe even more fun since people are obsessed with recording everything). Also, not sure if this happens in all regions, but for EU concerts, we get like no info (prices, seating) until last minute.

I think those aren't that bad. Tickets for IU were starting from 159 euro (limited number of seats, without fees and with restricted view), basically one had to pay at least 230 euro to attend her concert. As someone who has been to literally hundreds of concerts, the sticker shock for KPop shows is nuts! I did get to see ATEEZ in Atlanta last summer, and it was probably the best concert I’ve ever been to. I had decent seats and got advance Atiny access, but the jumping on and praying that I got in under the pricing increase was extremely stressful. I did, however, get my money’s worth and then some. Their fan base are for the most part really kind people. The same ticket I paid under $300 including fees for jumped up well over $1k after general sales opened up. But, they did sell all the seats, so someone was willing to fork out that much to be there. Seeing how much cheaper it would be in Europe is crazy. I could have bought a plane ticket and the concert ticket price for the same seat I sat in at the show I went to… and I could have had a mini vacation in Europe while I was at it. Time to start saving for the next one now, I guess!

Although I haven't done any actual math for comparison, people need to realize that the expenses for a show in, for example, the US, are going to be a heck of a lot more expensive than when the idols do a concert in Korea. Extra $$$ for food, accommodations, airfare, etc., not only for the artists but for the roadies, costumers, make-up, etc., is huge. There's also the cost of flying the equipment. So, you can't really compare fairness in prices between Korea and international. The prices DO hurt, though! I paid a lot for Taemin tickets in LA next month, but I purposefully didn't go to KCon to see him because I was saving for an entire concert. Prayers were answered.

They announced another date in Europe. They will come on 30th of July in Rome, and guess what. The tickets selling is on 5th of february which is less than one week. Unfortunately, i discovered them 2 days after the first dates concerts were sold out, so i couldn’t get a ticket and i was very sad. So i made other plans for the summer AND NOW THEY GIVE ONE WEEK TO SCHEDULE AND SAVE UP MONEY FOR ANOTHER DATE IN EUROPE?? bro that is just not fair (i’m from Romania) and i’m sure this was my chance to see them until they go in millitary service, but yea i don’t have 1000€ in one week to plan a trip to Rome for a concert so yea international fans are most of the time left out 😢

Well, maybe fans should be a bit more smart and stop paying huge amount of money just to see someone singing over a back track, hit these companies where it actually hurts, their pockets.

if you don't like the pricing, then don't buy the ticket. simple. just a few reminders: (1) the logistics and expenses involved in setting up a concert in different countries is expensive. (2) venues have to be rented and reserved, and these venues don't come cheap. (3) it's not just the artist or his supporting cast onstage, there's also a whole battalion of people behind the scenes who have to get paid -- before, during, and after the concert. (4) artists only have a brief window in time to leverage their popularity and success. they have to make hay while they're hot. (5) you pay a premium for star power. the bigger and more famous the artist, expect his/her talent fees to be higher. (6) and lastly, the music industry is a business. all businesses have to make money.

Selling VIP separate from the tickets is awful. Not only are the ticket prices high, but now we are paying the same for the VIP when once upon a time both were the price of just one of those choices. I like the idea that they were trying to give VIP options to those who can't afford the seats, however, they went about it all wrong. Scheduling concerts on same day doesnt bother me. As much as I dont ever want to face choosing who Id want to see, Im already there regardless because of prices. I cant afford to go every few months to a concert. Makes it worse because I have to travel because my area has only had a handful of artists come through. Only having a month to make sure my job is covered is insane too. Companies arent looking into the organizers they hire to hold these tours either so everything is awful from start to finish.

I agree with most of the video but hybe didn’t start dynamic pricing, what? It’s been a thing on ticketmaster since 2013? Other k-pop acts did it before Suga’s tour lmao? blackpink, skz, ateez etc all used dynamic pricing before 2023, when Suga’s tour started. & many western artists have been doing it for nearly a decade.

Not even pricing for the rich. It's like they know influencers will pay *anything* just to get in so they can shoot content with the stars (like in a fanmeet) and get their money's worth -- and inadvertently promote the artist's show.

All you have to do is boycott the concert, DON'T GO! Then, and ONLY THEN will they(companies) lower their cost! I'M DONE GOING TO CONCERTS!! Every time, it's $250+ prices! IT ADDS UP! I can do a lot with $1,000(4 concerts that I went to)! NO MORE!! All you have to do is wait, and it'll be on KZbin to watch! Honestly, a lot of live concerts aren't that great/creative for the price!

So, last minute time off, air fair, hotel, taxi, concert, return trip...I love my girls, but this makes me question just how much I love them. At least throw in a meet 'n greet.
