I have to thank you for the mention of the original group’s name.that recorded this song! It has been so long since I have heard the original. I am 68 years old, I was 10 when it came out in 1965. This version sounds great, but… it does not duplicate the feeling the original gives me. I did find the original on KZbin thanks to you. Again, Thank You so much!

Harri - Love You having fun with my favorite band of all time..The best live band of the 1970's!! So much fun!!! I Do and Centerfold and Love Stinks are fun songs from late in their career but You really gotta listen to and react to more of their great boogie blues of the early and mid 70's..especially their live stuff.....First I Look at The Purse and Hard Driven Man from FULL HOUSE or House Party and Musta Got Lost (Full Intro) from Blow Your Face Out... House Party Live from Winterland is also great..Sound quality isn't good but it gives You the feel of How crazy and full of energy they were on stage....A GREAT studio song is GIVE IT TO ME from Bloodshot..Unbelievable instrumentals! You will smile a lot!!

Also from the album "Full House," don't forget the segue duo "Whammer Jammer" + "Hard Drivin' Man." Energy just does not stop flowin' with this early version of the band. Also, the "Full House" album cover has joke on it. Too bad they got hijacked by TOP 40 producers; down hill after that.

Great to see you rediscover this J Geils classic! I've had that happen to me before...there was a song my brother used to play, and I tried to find it again for decades too. My brother has passed away, and a couple years ago I heard that song that was forever hidden in inaccessible parts of my memory. It was almost like a wave of relief knowing I wouldn't spend the rest of my life wondering what the song was stuck in my brain. It doesn't matter that it was a pretty insignificant song, just that I liked the sound. It was "You Don't Love Me" by Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills. Anyway, I understand your heartfelt reaction.

Great reaction, as usual, to Classic J. Geils tune. This is from the Monkey Island LP, which I bought in college, 1977. At their height they switched content a bit, still very funky but maybe more serious rather than party music. Good album w Sanctuary, title cut, I Do and others. J Geils ( rhymes w Tiles) is worth a deep dive, harmonica highlights every other song, at times.

Great song! I know the feeling of searching for a song that I heard as a child. I'm in my 60s now. The song was a Johnny Rivers cover of Huey Piano Smiths Rocking Pneumonia and Boogie Woogie Flu. I always thought it was by Loggins and Messina. I would go to record stores to buy a record, and the memory of that song popped into my head. I always looked at the Loggins and Messina albums. I'm fairly certain I asked a store employee at least once if they knew who did the song. If I did ask that person didn't know anything about the song. By the way my searching was before computers and way before smart phones. It wasn't until KZbin that I finally found the song. I felt dumb for thinking it was a Loggins and Messina song and felt happy that I finally found it at the same time. 😊

It would be very cool if you reacted to "I Do" again, but this time - the studio version so that it will bring back even more memories of this great song. On a different note, I graduated from high school in 1983 and I can't even explain how big the J Geils Band was in those days, especially in the Boston area where I grew up and where the band is from. Another really great song from them is "House Party". It was mandatory at every house party and pool party I ever attended back in my high school days.

And, “Ain’t Nothin But A House Party” was also a cover! It was originally recorded by The Show Stoppers in 1968. Another great cover was “First I Look At The Purse” by the Contours, I believe. They were very good at choosing which songs to cover. And their cover versions were all great- yes, especially for parties 🥳

Debbie, thank you very much. I submitted this as part of my very low-keyed monthly series of great harp players for Harri and our members. After he reviewed Magic Dick's blistering solo on Whammer Jammer, which is one of my all-time favorites, Harri said that he wished that he could have seen the musicians. I held back in not submitting "I Do" because I considered it one of the greatest live performances, and it featured a bit of Magic Dick on harp. The stars seemed to have aligned, and it was time to submit my final "greatest harp players" which I knew was on J. Giels's live "I do". I had no idea what was to come when Harri did this reaction (an understatement). Wow, look what happened to Harri!!!!!

I'm so glad that your quest for this song is finally over! :) Your reaction was even better than when you re-discovered "My Sweet Lord". Spectacular live band. Except for their live a!bum, FULL HOUSE, their records never did them justice. The musicianship was second to none, and Peter Wolf was a master frontman. I saw them on five occasions, the first being in 1973 in a beautiful ornate old theater in Ft.Wayne IN, red velvet seats, curtains and all. They shook the place to it foundation and the kids just went nuts. The contrast between the band and the venue was wild. I will never forget it.

THIS, RIGHT HERE, IS WHAT IT’S ABOUT FOR ME!! This is why I love watching music react videos. This is the magic of music and what inevitably happens as it imprints on our hearts and our minds, then when we happen across it years later we’re instantly transported to that place and time, and perhaps even the very daydreams running through our minds when it played all those years ago. I saw the George Harrison reaction and I jumped outta my chair in front of my tv (as I often stream through my Apple TV so I can watch on the big screen). I had even suggested George in the comments a couple of times, but realized there’s just so many comments it could take a long time before getting around to him, especially since it was solo work from him.. though something told me his music would move you Harri, and I was just overjoyed to share that discovery with you that day, as I am today with this discovery, which frankly, I see as being even all the more elusive in that a) it wasn’t one of their really big radio “hits”, and b) all you had to go on was the “Doo Doo-Doo’s” in the song. Just knowing the “Doo Doo-Doo’s” makes it a very difficult frame of reference to pinpoint because just think how many different songs there are using that form of 50’s/60’s doo-wop sounding scat for backup vocals.. TONS of songs. Don’t get me wrong.. it’s not your fault for that, it’s purely happenstance that that’s what you had latched onto in the moment, and unfortunate that it just happened to be one of the most common vocalizations in the history of rock n roll. The same thing happened to me where I just had a guitar solo stuck in my head for ages and couldn’t pinpoint it. What made it really hard is it was a very simple solo, and the song was soft and mellow so I couldn’t place it and no one would even begin to know what to suggest when I described it. Eventually, I just came across it on the radio: The Climax Blues Band “I Love You”. It was surreal hearing it again as it transported me to riding in the car and staring at the scenery passing by. All through the 80’s-90’s I used to hang out in record stores and familiarize myself with the entirety of shelf stock and keep tabs on any new trade-ins of used stuff they would get. I got to know the staff at most places, but would be sure to give them space to work unless they were bored and wanted to converse. On several occasions people would come to the desk looking for certain songs and they started pulling me in on the search if they were stumped. One girl came in and had been searching for the longest time for a song, and no one could get it. They asked me, and after she described it I knew it This Mortal Coil “Song To The Siren”. They happened to have a used copy of that album- “It’ll End in Tears”, and MAAAN when they put it on she exclaimed “OH!”.. “this is it..” but had froze up and was TREMBLING as tears rolled down her face. After a minute she lost her breath and was sobbing, but started to stagger so me and another customer helped hold her steady cause she was literally hyperventilating and about to pass out. It was quite moving for everyone in the store.. and needless to say, she bought a copy. I think we had figured out that she had been searching through Siouxsie and Cocteau Twins, which was close, but it was a Twins side project so it was obscured from her searches. I have some songs that are eluding me to this day.. one is a very very obscure 80’s punk/new wave single which record shops and collectors around the US haven’t even heard of. Not sure if I’ll ever find that one, though I know the artist and all the song titles on it. You should definitely hum what you remember of the country song, Harri.. and any notable lyrics you might remember, what would it hurt? You might just catch the attention of a viewer who just listened to it a couple of days ago so it’s still fresh in their mind.

@@HarriBestReactions Yes, well the guitar solo was quite an abstract reference point. Interestingly all the wrong answers gave me insight to a renewed appreciation for very simple guitar solos. Looking forward to the Country hint.. If it’s 70’s or 80’s I just might get it. Just hopeful someone does..

This was fun! It brought back memories of my search for a certain song from my youth that eluded me over and over (turns out it was “Hope” by Klaatu) and then another from my teens that caused me to buy the entire YES catalog before finding it on the last CD I got (“ Tempis Fugit “ from Drama)

I can close my eyes and hear this song being blasted in my College dorm room. Best party band of the 1970s and I saw them blow the roof off Cobo Hall Detroit in the 70s.

The J Geils Band is the best band EVER. I saw them every time they came to Cleveland, Ohio. This band should be in the Rock Hall and the fact that they are not is why I think the Rock Hall is a f in-joke. Please do Serves You Rite to Suffer or When the Walls Come Tumblin Down. Sanctuary is another great one. There is no bad song by this band, PLAESE DO THEM ALL. I am serious. Iam begging you to do a reaction of nothing but J Geils PLEASE. a song buy them that is a hidden gem for fans is Peanut Butter just so you know,

This one was okay but you have to do Musta Got Lost. The live version with the intro. That's the one they are best known for.
