Iconic OGWT. 50 years on and as fresh and exciting as it was all those years ago. Timeless.

Geddy Lee's interview on Rolling Stone sent me here. Makes a lot of sense why Geddy would be influenced by Jack back then.

Huge Geddy Lee fan, I had no idea how much Geddy took from Bruce until I discovered these videos, crazy how similar their technique is.

We finally get a glimpse of Carla Bley near the end. The panned to her a couple of times prior but all we could see was a mass of hair with a nose poking out. I have the full audio with Jack Bruce SPIRIT/ LIVE AT THE BBC box set

This might be my favorite of all the OGWT videos. To have a complete 11+ minutes of gorgeous soloing (and wonderful, slow-moving camera work)… it’s hard to imagine something like this being done (in this way) today. And the audience’s focus…it was so silent you could hear a pin drop…because they were awaiting every note, listening with great anticipation. I keep saying it, and I’ll continue to say it (to the Bruce family): thank you so much for gifting us these long lost gems. Can’t wait for the box set!

Haven't seen this before. Jack had a pretty nice band back then.

Superb, too bad they broke up, but Jack wasn’t easy to work with and his penchant for long lead bass solos probably got on Mick Taylor’s nerves after a few months

The lyrical Mick Taylor four minute guitar solo starting at 7:07 matches any of his comparable gems like Winter and Time Waits for no one, interwoven with Bruce’s magic bass and the dazzling drummer … outstanding

Really impressive they pulled that movement off so seamlessly. Mick has the ability to play clean fluid leads that cut right through the mix. I'm guessing that's why he was using wah pedals at all times during this period.

@ yes the whole set is fantastic, though after he walked out of the band Mick compared Jack to Keith richards, adding that he meant that in a ‘non musical sense’ … referring perhaps to their heroin use and or being difficult people to work with, down the line he walked out of the band as he did with the Stones and it also was unable to survive without him

Jack said he was always 100% straight when playing live music and you can't hit that beyond belief vocal note at 2:48 unless you are a professional.

none taken. like hendrix, jack would often scramble the words to songs during live shows (he does so here). hendrix reportedly some times sang the same verse to all along the watchtower three times in a row. sting uses a teleprompter, a technology not available at the time of this show, so its a joke. String claims its less to remember the words, than to give him peace of mind so he can concentrate on the music instead of thinking about what the upcoming verse is. @@chuchusdaddy
