Dodo Re Mi is honestly pioneering something that could be insanely useful for future games Having the option to join and leave mid-game, syncing players, allowing multiple play styles, there’s a LOT they can work with for future games

One thing I'd love to see from now on is a general Jackbox app where you can purchase individual games. They could still have the packs every year similar to other DLC approaches like Smash Ultimate's fighter pass, you can buy a pack of multiple or buy them individually. It could also potentially incentivize them to update previous games a bit more? I mainly say this because as a rhythm game nerd I'd love to play Dodo Re Mi but wouldn't wanna spend €35 on just that.
@CinnaBox
@CinnaBox 8 ай бұрын
said generally app should be a more definitive version of the site, you’d be able to join games and there could be more features on it, like being able to view all of your past games instead of just like 10 also, as another rhythm game nerd, dodo re mi is good but you aren’t missing out on much (there’s no scroll speed settings :
@SquidFlame
@SquidFlame 8 ай бұрын
@@CinnaBoxI dont think scroll speed settings are very important in the long run, especially since games like Beat Saber and Project Diva aregames with individual song scroll speeds. And also, this isnt really meant to be one of those advanced rhythm games, this is still a party game after all.

Some things to mention: 1. FixyText broke on multiple occasions where what we wrote couldn't appear on the screen and players couldn't win because of that. This got to the point where the last time I played FixyText, the game broke not long after the other team was only able to input a comma. I'm sure the update fixed a bit of things, but this was the breaking point. Coupled with the fact that co-author points are broken and this is why I don't like playing FixyText. 2. I think with the final round of Tee K.O. 2, it has a better sense to have a tap on your answer choice a lot more than Bracketeering. Given that only one winner comes from the bracket, it wouldn't do any good to have the same voting system as before. What else could they do than have a tap-off? But I feel like this time around, there is more justification based on the fact that A) this is the final round and it's really the only part of the game that does it and B) it gives more of an incentive for people to cheer on your answer. Bracketeering annoyingly had this when a tie happened, so the idea of tapping your answer got stale really quickly by the end of the game. Here, it's a one and done deal. 3. I wonder what your thoughts are on Tee K.O. 2's redrawing aspect because your review of Tee K.O. 2 failed to mention this. The redrawing aspect is probably the best feature in the game so far, and it's hilarious to take other people's drawings and making them even more goofier. That said, I feel like the game should credit the original artist, and it shouldn't boil down to me having to ask experts in data analysis for Jackbox games to tell me who did who. 4. On a personal note, if Jackbox did take a break for a year, I feel like much of that energy could be done to update the previous packs. Add the unified menu from 8 onwards to 7 and below, subtitles for Jackbox 1 to 5, language support, bug fixes, some controller updates and all, and some gameplay tweaks like auto-submitting drawings in Bidiots, or a streamer-friendly mode for Fakin' It. I agree that Jackbox shouldn't stop annual releases, but if it had to do so, it would need to use that energy to update the older games of the series with benefits that could really enhance those games. Anyways thanks for hosting Jackbox for us SilokHawk!

I couldn't quite put my finger on what felt different with Tee KO voting (especially since I previously viewed all the changes as a good thing) but I think you nailed it with the loss of shock factor. Maybe the bracket system would work better if it was split in half so that there are still waves of new shirts (and maybe save the winner of each mini bracket for round 3 ???) though this wouldn't be feasible with smaller player counts.

I believe when people say they should take more time with these, they're talking about having the time to add more polish/features (such as issues with timers), and being afforded the time to make something new if they find something doesn't work great as a game late into it's development A big part of game development is knowing when to scrap something, even if you put a lot of time into it. With all the planning, asset development, and testing required for five games yearly, it wouldn't surprise me if they just had to say "it's probably a dud, but we don't have time to make something new, just ship it" in the past One year is a pretty short turnaround for five online multiplayer games, even with all the experience and reusable code they have from previous games. It would take a decent chunk of time and money to completely plan-out and redo even just the music for something (like Tee-KO 2) Hope this came across clearly, I'm not great at explaining myself

I think 2023's party pack needed a leg up, a little more in some games, some feel rushed. How FixyText is the same in all rounds, how the avatars in Time Jinx aren't animated, for example. Some little changes could improve the experience.

Ive always understood Jackbox as the the Jack(heh) of all trades when it comes to party games. Its got a little bit of something for everyone, and dabbles in a bit of it all. Thats the entire selling point in my opinion. The ability to give everyone a chance to play what they enjoy at least once, without having to go through all the trouble to switch out games and go through huge game sessions. The point of Jackbox is supposed to be a whole lot of small things that everyone can enjoy *in total*. One of the games isnt your strong suit? Good thing you've got 4 others to pick from, and you dont even have to deal with this game for 2 hours straight. Personally, its a beautiful idea for a party game, but i can see how people might misunderstand it and assume that it isn't good. This isnt supposed to be a group of games that every single person always enjoys. Theres a reason theres usually one drawing game, one or two trivia games, games where you respond to questions or quotes, and some action-based stuff. Its meant to pique at least someone's interest with every game and bring them all together to pick one game that they decide to play... Jackbox.

My favorite part about the Doogie Howser part is how Dr. Beverly Crusher has the name of the series she's from in the prompt despite Star Trek being very popular, and then for Doogie Howser they're like "it's fine just putting his name in. No one will be confused where he comes from."

It's a shame that this series uniiversally has the issues of "mode takes too damn long or has too many rounds" which really hurts a lot of them. I wish you could cut entire rounds or modify the game speed in several ways. I love watching streamers play these games but they can get really sloggy.

If there's anything i like about this year's pack (10) even though I never played it, it's absolutely the presentation because this game looks amazing. For example, that intro is so great with all the central (enough) characters, all in different art stylesjust vibing at first like friends. Then, they all notice the player's entrance and get up and ready for action. I really do like all the details put in that intro, not to mention the games themselves (though, I haven't played them all myself).

Nice, all the packs reviewed until the next one. I know there's the tier list but you should definitely review some of the jackbox clones sometime. One thing I'd like them to add in future packs (and previous ones) is an option in the settings similar to the one that filter outs American centric prompts but it filters out celebrity/pop culture centric prompts. and yeah better timer settings would be great, let us set a specific timer for each game etc Also Imo I think jackbox should make an all sequel pack. And I think they should do a remake/remaster of the old you don't know jack games from the 90s + 2011. Make 'em playable via jackbox tv and other things to keep up with modern standards. Maybe they'll do something like that since next year is its 30th anniversary lol

even though pack 10 was surely something, to say, I feel like there’s still big stuff in store for pack 11, because this year is the 10 year anniversary of the first pack, so this could still be big I hope they do something like an all sequel pack, or 6 games in a pack for what I want to see, I want a new YDKJ, I’ve played full stream a few times with my family and it’s really fun, it also feels perfect for the big double digit celebration of pack 1, there’s already been so much history with this series that it’s kind of caused another obsession regarding Jackbox, also full stream came out before the pandemic happened so it’s pretty outdated this next thing is a one of those crazy dreams I cook up in my little introvert brain, but a collab between Jackbox and Exploding Kittens would be awesome, they’re both giants in the party game industry and then combining forces could make some of the best games we’ve ever seen if they go down the double sequel route, they could probably do something, but I could see them doing all sequels 6 games, I was thinking about this as an introvert sitting at school lunch would, maybe it could be 2 trivia games, 2 writing games, and 2 drawing games, the 2 trivia games would be a new YDKJ and TMP 3, as those are both overdue the drawing games could be Champ’d Up 2 and Patently Stupid 2, both of those games are really popular and fun so I think that would work well for writing games, they could do Quiplash 4 and Survive the Internet 2, Quiplash because… it’s Quiplash, and survive the internet because it’s a decently popular game that needs a sequel those are just some ideas I think they could do edit: where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11 where is pack 11

(Copy and pasted from removed video) To be completely honest with you, I saw a game of DoDo Re Mi just from a single random stream I joined and instantly registered what kind of game it was, falling in love, leading me to buy the pack JUST for that one game and the pay off was huge. It’s really nice to see a lot of people one board with the game. Not to throw any other JB game under the bus, but that game seriously must’ve been one of the most challenging to put together properly. Honestly, I really hope it’s beloved enough to get a sequel or at least more song updates. A game like this is absolutely 100% designed for longevity. It genuinely rocks so much and it’s so wonderful to have friends I can meet in person to all enthusiastically agree to a “jam session” with that lasts all afternoon long or beyond.

I find your discussion of the annual release thing very interesting, because when I have discussions with friends about the subject it's never about quality, but the price. There is no denying the quality of Jackbox games, and especially in the presentation things have only gotten better. In that respect, their prices are justified. When you consider actual play time however (not something I do personally, but a very popular measure of a game's value), it's really steep. I mean I play Jackbox all the time, but not everyone is like that. Some people just have one group they like to play with & people naturally get bored of simple games easily. Especially considering a decent amount of those games won't vibe with the group in question. Sometimes you just want a specific pack for an afternoon or so. I think something more like a monthly subscription structure would benefit jackbox greatly as opposed to the annual release thing. I don't actually know the best way to go about it, like should each pack be separated, or just have it be all under one game? Nor do I know how it would affect profit for the team, but for me and my friends it would be great to say rent a pack's worth of games for a month for like 5-10 bucks to get our fix & only resubscribe when we're in the mood or they drop something new. Plus this means they can do more interesting release methods. Instead of releasing 5 games at once they could release them whenever, like spreading them out over the year. That's my take on the annual release thing, it's not about quality I just think there's other, better ways to deliver these types of games. This is coming from somebody who likes to actually own their games by the way

For people where English is not the first language the new price is very fair because now it's fully translated to my language (Brazilian Portuguese), it isn't just subtitles, all songs and some questions are localized for my country. It makes this jackbox the best one for us, because I can play with everyone, not only english speakers Seeing it really doesn't have the best games make me a little sad, but we knew when buying that we were paying for the translation and I expect that all Jackbox games from now on are localized (Or that they remaster some old ones with this feature)

I can't speak for others but I played the game day 1 and didn't experience any bugs. There are older jackbox titles that still bug out even when played now (PTB crashes a lot for me) but I didn't experience any technical issues for 10 on launch day. Hypnotorious feeling unfinished had nothing to do with bugs so citing it seems irrelevant to your point.

Somewhat irrelevant but if you ask me the buggiest jackbox game is Civic Doodle. Final round falls apart every time without fail.

In my opinion, Pack 10 is a lot like Pack 5. In my eyes, both are overall mediocre. It has a sequel that got overlooked for one reason or another, a flawed but still very fun text-based game, a great concept that was executed poorly, a game that I seem to be against the crowd's opinion with, and a huge-risk game that broke the regular Jackbox pacing.

More development time is necessary when a game has bugs or is lacking content. Underperforming jackbox games are not buggy and are not missing content. They just need rule adjustments to flow better. Sure more time may help find these. But these issues could have been picked up in the current development cycle with perhaps better group testing and understanding of what makes a game simple yet engaging

I think FixyText can work. I imagine it as a follow the leader game, where one player leads the group to write a type an email with a goal like “write a 2 week’s notice”, or “decline wedding invitation” (topics can be more funny, I’m just not funny) that only they know. The leader can write a word or phrase every few seconds with some type of limit like “can’t say …”, “write ‘owo’ where an o would be”,or “never use ‘e’”. People can rate the player on how good the leader lead the group or can be voted on being “best boss” in a email writing company. Bonus points could be given to both the most accurate phrases/words in the email and most funny. It might help the problem of a lack of structure and the host being ignored. Also is it me does hypnotorious reminds you of spyfall?

what i wish they changed with the format of these games is i wish there was one jackbox app for free from which you could play any of the jackbox mini games as dlc. It would be so much more convenient compared opening different jackbox packs just to play specific games. they could still charge for them as packs but if they wanted to they could also let you buy individual games instead of needing to buy a whole pack but maybe give you an overall better deal if you do buy the entire pack. Itd also be nice so we dont NEED sequel mini games but instead could get updates, so instead of a 4th quiplash they just instead update the original to have multiple game modes and style templates.

Sadly one of the weaker packs. Probably the weakest since Pack 5 to be frankly honest. I wouldn't be surprised if this pack had some major development problems. Tee K.O. 2 is a solid sequel with some neat enhancements but it's just solid, not a must buy. Time Jinx is easily the best game in the pack being a very good pure trivia game with a great scoring system. If you are a trivia buff, this might make the pack worth it but that's kind of a big ask. FixyText can be very funny with the right people but it can be a bit aimless. Good presentation but just alright overall. It's a good version of Word Spud but that doesn't mean a lot. Do Do Re Mi is solid if you enjoy rhythm games. Well made but there's probably better options out there. Hypnotorious...I really wanted to like but after about 4 attempts...I'm sorry, it's just not a very good game. The role playing aspect is interesting but it's very unclear with how you're actually supposed to play.

I hope at some point with the sheer number of party packs they consolidate them all into a collection. Perhaps even give you the option to purchase them individually. Jackbox Ultimate Party or something.

My friends and I had a get together and played this new pack at the end, we only had time to try two out and I'm sad that Do Do Re Mi wasn't one of them, that looks awesome! First was Time Jinx and it was....alright. I won by figuring out the go-in-the-middle strategy, not so much because of my limited knowledge of dates. I thought the main rounds were fairly boring. The bonus rounds were definitely better, but those being less frequent, and no "jinx" mechanics make it my least favorite Jackbox trivia game. I think a different presentation from the host character would have boosted it a bit. My first thought when I saw her was "Oh my god she's cute!" But then she started talking and sounded like she didn't want to be here, and not in a funny way. The hosts really do a lot for the presentation, like Quiplash would not be the same without Schmitty, and the Split the Room cat just OOZES atmosphere and charisma. I wish she had something more like a Ms. Frizzle wacky scientist vibe, maybe something excited and nerdy like the Dictionarium host's personality. And then we tried Hypnotorious...oof. The categories are so arbitrary and the hints aren't very good. How was I supposed to know my "snowman" went with my friend's "snake" because they start with S!? The categories in Blather Round are so ubiquitous (Honestly one of my favorites if not my #1 Jackbox game ever), I don't know how they dropped the ball so hard with them here. The best part is seeing the wild answers everyone comes up with, but at that point just play Quiplash. It was a real disappointment cause the presentation was great, I thought the host was totally on point and it uses my favorite reoccurring artstyle. And I saw the trailer I hoped it could be kind of an updated version of Fakin' It, another game I love but hardly play since the rest of my irl friendgroup doesn't like it and its hard to play over Discord, but I don't think I'll ever want to play Hypnotorious over anything else.

The rhythm game sound fun, the color coded instruments remind me of DropMIx. As for Hypnotorious, quite a few social deduction board games have done this concept, like Insider and Chameleon.

About the end. I just wish there was more customization with game rules. What’s stopping them from even letting us set the timers. More settings can go a long way, and especially with all these games having quite strict rules/formats, it can be frustrating or disappointing at times. Either way, I’m sure they’ll keep coming up with awesome ideas in the future.

Before I was on team "they should make games less often" but yeah you made really good arguments. I agree maybe more time would not help. But maybe more play testing would help them fix games conceptually. Also I did not know jackbox has YEARS of games ideas in the vault. If that's the case I wish they did LESS GODDAMN SEQUELS. Jb 10 was the first one I skipped because of the bad reviews and increased price

I'm surprised to hear Do Do Re Mi being called good. Don't get me wrong the theming of it is great but for me as someone who plays loads of rhythm games (Outfox, Pump, GH, RB, CH, YARG, Osu! Lazer, DJ MAX, Taiko just to name a few) and loves them it just fell short. The music was good but it just either never works or lags terribly (The devices I use aren't even old). Sometimes keys don't register and there is always lag. Big thing I wish they could of included is a timing window modifier like literally every rhythm game out there and a timing offset in case the audio is not in sync (I know you can view the timing windows in the files but I don't know if it is modifiable). Also that Tap Tap Tap section really breaks the game. If you tap too late or early causing you to finish the tap section even if slightly, your frets will be offset from the audio making the game much harder. The other games were alright and from my experience some of them quite a few bugs. 8 is still the best IMO fallowed by 4 and 5

I think its time, that we need to develop more games that we already have than get new ones. Your point about Tee K.O. 2 is so on point and I didn't even realise it. Why can't the dev team make a sequel better than the previous one, rather than feeling like erm this is better at some things and this is better at other things. I am quite happy to pay for sequels if it improves on the experience, but not if it makes you feel conflicted about it what is the point. Great series, I would love to hear your opinions on what games, that haven't already got one, should get a sequel and why.

I've never played any of the Jackbox games, neither do I intend to, I'm just here because I'm a fan of your channel. So treat this as a purely outsider's opinion. One reason I can see why they should see about moving away from an annual release, is to avoid over-saturation. The Skylanders series got better with each entry, but it being an annual release made people despise it, although I suppose it could be argued that the whole "Toy-To-Life" thing spurred that on. Also the Assassin's Creed series stayed mostly on par despite being an annual release, but what was once considered an exciting franchise that everyone looked forward to seeing the next entry of, quickly became "Oh, another one?" I get that those aren't exactly good examples. But I'm just trying to say that sometimes things seem better when you have to wait a little for them. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. But like I said, I'm an outside when it comes to Jackbox games. So perhaps everything I just said wouldn't apply to this scenario. Jackbox games are very clearly an entirely different thing to the examples I could think of.

You mention a 1-5 split versus a 6-10 split and what people would prefer to argue for yearly releases. But frankly packs 3-8 definitely out pace the last two packs. Nine wasn't as bad as ten but its pretty lackluster. As for more development time being strictly related to adding content to a game, maybe they instead need more time to brainstorm the basic concept for the games. I dont really care about the yearly release schedule one way or the other but they have missed two packs in a row.

Funnily enough, I almost completely disagree with this. My favorites were Tee KO 2, TimeJinx, and Hypnotorious. Dodo Re Mi is good but not one of my favorites, and although I agree that Fixytext is fundamentally bad, playing it with the right group can be hilarious (which is also how I feel about Joke Boat). However, I agree whole-heartedly with everything you said in the discussion on the annual/non-annual issue except for that Pack 10 was a stopgap until 11

Honestly, Time Jinx might be my new least favorite game in all of Jackbox. The Trivia Games never really were my cup of tea, because...I'm bad at Trivia, but even then, there was always something to keep my invested. The suspense of Trivia Murder Party, the Comedy of YDKJ, the psychological elements of Fibbage, or all the different question types of Wheel. Time Jinx has...nothing. It feels less like a Jackbox Game and more like some pubquiz or a childrens birthday, where they try to make answering questions more exciting with some mildly amusing Time Travel Theming. Because that's all that is it. All the different rounds are so basic and feel so samey, and aside from maybe Time Loop, nothing really takes advantage of the fact that this is a videogame. No rapidfire rounds, no multiple answer questions, no text typeouts, nothing...

I think Party Pack 10 was absolutely rushed to meet the October release window they always opt for. Getting an update soon after launch that adds a ton of features is pretty unprecedented for Jackbox (additionally, the console icon *may* have been a placeholder, considering they soon updated it to match most of the other Party Packs). And a lot of the changes and additions were relatively small, yet smack of not being ready in time. Why did Tee KO 2 get the time-wasting button mashing to make an event happen once you're done concept Mad Verse City introduced post-launch? Was it necessary in the first place? We also ran into a ton of issues that screamed "we didn't have time to polish this pack." We had our first three Tee KO 2 games drop a player, among other things. Additionally, while I can't speak for everyone, I do genuinely think the Party Packs have been going downhill - at least since 7, which might be the best one overall. Job Job is the only game from 8 that's become a mainstay among those I play with. 9 genuinely looked so uncompelling, we skipped it, but the reception I saw was a lot more mixed than I think you gave it credit for. And then my thoughts on 10 are much like your own, though I also think Tee KO 2 is dragged down by the overall vibes being off. The presentation feels too sterile, the narrator doesn't pack the same punch, and replacing the original cast of yokai with a Jackbox crossover lineup just robs the game of the identity and flavor of the first one. I would've much preferred it if they dedicated a new game to celebrating the legacy of the series over shoehorning it into the sequel game of the pack, especially if they managed to integrate that crossover element into the actual gameplay. Trivia Murder Party 2 has a minigame that's literally just Quiplash - I'm sure they could try and bring together various elements of their past games in a similarly novel way. Otherwise, though, Fixytext blows, Timejinx is decent but just feels like fun windowdressing for basic trivia, and Hypnotorious doesn't fully realize its potential. I originally thought it'd alleviate how I don't like social deduction games because I hate being the one who has to blend in, but the execution isn't up to snuff. So that leaves Dodo Re Mi, which is a much better experiment than Zeeple Dome was (which itself was apparently rushed - Dodo Re Mi seemingly got all the time it needed, though, as its additions felt most like extra content and not stuff that wasn't ready for launch).
