I don’t know how I missed this, but great review! My own thoughts were extremely similar to yours in fact. As for Dodo Re Mi, I think it has the same collaborative social/party energy as Rock Band. Much like Rock Band, even though you're not directly interacting through gameplay, the collaborative nature of chilling out, and making music with friends, is what makes it so fun with a group _(especially in person where you can directly hear everyone's instruments without needing to hear the playback)._ I love seeing the team try new things, but I totally understand your argument of wanting games that encourage direct engagements between players in a series known for doing just that.

I honestly would have preferred pack 10 to be more of a celebration of 10 years i think it would be cool if they put 5 (or even 10) of their highest rated most popular games in one pack for this year, and then go back to the regular style packs next year.

I always felt like it wasnt the best idea to have a yearly jpp game since it doesn't leave that much time in the oven for them to improve games and come up with better ideas, even tho I mostly really enjoy my time with jackbox. But considering how rushed this pack felt I think my point holds true.

I've always assumed their dev cycles are closer to 18 months - brainstorming and prototyping the next Pack, while playtesting the nearer one. Maybe that's not the case? Whatever their system is, slowing down a step might be the best call

I will point out that in DoDoReMe, the band member introduction you complain about at 14:28 isn’t a feature, it’s a subtle loading screen. The game needs some time to process the final song with everyone together. If it’s a short song, it’ll usually finish right around the time it stops introducing band members. But if it’s a longer song you can see it will keep loading for 30+ seconds afterwards. They are just trying to entertain you while it is loading which I think is good, although it would be nice if there is additional entertainment for songs that take a minute plus to load. Maybe people can try another short song or something. Also my groups didn’t seem to have any bugs. I agree with about everything else you said though, so good video!
@2leftthumbs

That makes a lot of sense! Although I wish they just made it into a minigame. Let players earn extra points while they wait, without combining it into a song! At least it's better than staring at a plain loading screen

The big thing that really worries me is that with Jackbox, if any pack does so badly that the company fails, servers for every other pack are likely to go down as well. I tried it out on a stream with some people, and you didn't even mention audience as they don't matter at all. Tee KO 2 is pretty much the same of just voting, Timejinx has you answer the trivia with no impact on the game, FixyText has you vote and nothing else, Dodo Re Mi allows them to play but their own separate game that isn't seen on screen and you are told results after the main team finishes, and I don't even know what they do in Hypnotorious. Often time there will be one or two games where the audience doesn't get to do much, but then there are others where they can have a big impact. But with how slow the ones where they just vote are, this pack is horrible to play as an audience member.

I am of the opinion that they could do packs every other year, with an extra game or two and a ton more innovation in each pack. I get that people don’t like less of a good thing, but it will give us more of a *great* thing.

I think for hypnotorious if you had the outlier still not know it could work. They answer a bit as the outlier, but then they are told they are the outlier a question or two from the end *and* what the other categories are. Now, the outlier has to try and make their old identity fit with a new fake identity fitting one of those categories.
@bobthebox2993

3:25 the main reason everyone is able to vote for any shirt, is likely because each shirt is a contribution of 3 people's work. One person provides the slogan, one the drawing and one who puts it all together. The spotlight doesn't just go to the person who combined the slogan and drawing, the artist and writer also share the win. So if you don't allow the shirt creator to vote because they are likely to be biased, then you might as well also disqualify the drawer and the writer from participating. But at that point, you risk disqualifying 6 people from voting (2 shirts, each with 3 different people contributing on them) which could result in no-one being left to vote. The problem is even worse in the second round, as the drawing can be a combination of 2 people's work. So hypothetically, in an 8 player game, you can still run into a situation where everyone has personal stakes in one of the shirts. It just makes more sense to allow everyone to vote.

Hypnotorious sounds like an expanded upon version of the board game Spyfall, which is very fun, but does require some getting used to - vaguely answering questions so people who know know you’re on their team but not revealing which team that is (there’s only one team, the outlier knows they’re the outlier and must guess the other’s category). I’m very intrigued by the concept but you would absolutely need to frontload the entire explanation - fine for experienced board gamers but most people don’t have that patience for Jackbox. That’s unfortunate because the idea does seem very fun
@BTroit
@BTroit 7 ай бұрын
Spyfall is kind of what this game wishes it was, but I'd also recommend The Chameleon, and Decrypto as excellent games in the same vein. All of those games are better than this (imo). Push The Button even did a much better job, if we're looking within the jackbox packs themselves. I really enjoy how in the equivalent board games you try to walk the line between providing enough information to prove yourself innocent, but not enough to give the answer away. Vague questions/answers and niche jokes that only make sense if you already know the answer are the heart of this style of game. But at no point did I feel that same excitement trying to find the balance when playing this. Here are the main reasons why I think I didn't get the same fun from Hypnotorious: 1) The fake doesn't know they're the fake. This seems like a minor thing at the first (even necessary for game balance), but it makes punnery or niche references a potentially game-losing strategy. Crucially, the player won't even know that they've tanked their game by trying to be clever until after they see the other answers. So it can completely kill that aspect of the game, which was one of my favourite parts from Spyfall and Chameleon! 2) Unknown categories. This was probably to make it harder for normal people to sort themselves, but it also makes it harder for the faker to fit in. By the time they have enough info to start to put the categories together themselves and fake some answers, everyone else will probably already be very suspicious of you. PtB got around that by giving the aliens lifelines that they could use to save themselves or screw other players over. 3) Weird categories. Instead of general and known category/options (locations for Spyfall, simple themes like sports or movies for Chameleon), you really don't have a good idea of what the categories are. Sometimes they're extremely specific (meaning you don't have to give away as much info) and sometimes they're way too vague (meaning you have to give more info than you anticipated), and you don't really know what it'll be. This kind of "variety" detracted from the game for me, but if you like this game then maybe it adds replayability? 4) Unclear win conditions. The points 100% feel like an afterthought in this game, which makes me wonder why they're even there. Similar games are already just win/lose based on exposing somebody... Since you only sort your own character into the category jars, there aren't any points available for figuring things out earlier than the others. Fakin' It did this much better by giving intermediate points for being right (even if things weren't revealed until the end of the entire round) 5) Lack of engagement. You just respond to a few prompts and then sort yourselves. It feels like there's less involvement than a comparable board game, and faaar less than the more open-ended nature of jackbox should allow. Push The Button had way more round variety and intrigue, and Spyfall at least has you asking your own questions. I guess if you get a group playing this a bunch I see that it could be fairly fun. But, for me, it's never going to be as fun as the comparable board games that are already out there, which is a shame.

I was really hoping that Pack 10 was going to see a unified launcher with all 10 packs together so we didn't have to keep closing and reopening games to play every single one. Also, is FixyText removal of entry related to backspacing or not? I'm not sure. My friends and I seem to think since they mention backspace being broken, and if you attempt to use it, it can have bad results with your text or your whole team's text just getting removed from even being accepted as a punishment. But it could just be a bug, I'm not sure, either.

I had a lot of bugginess with this pack, specifically hypnotorious where one person kept getting disconnected and it literally greyed out the reconnect button every time, and if you paused then unpaused the game in a loading screen it would just crash, and in tee ko after the final round it would give an error message every time. But the games (besides hypnotorius) were increablely fun. I love tee ko and I’m surprised you didn’t mention how fun it is as a long time fan to see all the references (though I am sad the karasutengu did not show up as a spirit at all) and the tools for drawing were great. I’m suprised people don’t like fixytext as everyone in the group I played with except me unanimously agreed it was their favorite

I dunno if I'm just particularly unlucky, but Time Jinx seems to have a bit of a problem with repeating itself after a handful of playthroughs that is way worse than I remember other trivia games having It might have something to do with the higher effort they put per question, with the unique phrasing, scenarios and images, causing both each question to become more memorable, and thus easier to spot again, and also harder to produce, leading to fewer quantity. That's just an initial hunch tho, I might be totally off track

I hate to say it, but I'm not feeling great about this pack. Tee KO 2 and Do Do Re Mi are the only 2 games that I really enjoyed. I really appreciate the risks they took with Do Do Re Mi by trying something brand new for Jackbox, even if it's more of a "gamey" game. It serves as a fun and (at times) intense challenge. And as a music fan, I also gotta appreciate how great this game's OST is (ignoring the selectable songs and performance segment). I wish there were other ways to play it though, such as an elimination mode where the worst performing bird gets eaten each round until it's the last bird standing. Sadly the others just arent doing it for me. Fixy Text had potential, but just feels mindless, like sitting in a cursed COD lobby. It's funny for a few seconds but gets old quick, and I think Job Job does a way better job (no pun intended) with the "pick your favorite words" objective. It makes you use your brain with limited resources to construct something funny, and it's much more satisfying to play. Time Jinx works well with its gameplay, but my god it feels so bland and lifeless. The host barely feels present, and the visuals aren't memorable in the slightest. There isn't much charm or humor coming from the host at all, which makes the experience extremely forgettable. The time travel theme wasn't utilized much at all outside of the gameplay either. It's fine as a trivia game, but it's missing that Jackbox flair. And... Hypnotorious. This is the only game I haven't gotten the chance to play (since streamers usually wanna play DoDo, Time Jinx, or Tee KO 2), but after watching many games of it online, it just seems like a boring and confusing mess. It reminds me of this time on Hell's Kitchen where the Season 6 red team won a surprise reward, and it was a class where they could pretend to be mimes... (yea it's one of the worst rewards in HK history). Hypnotorious' social deduction elements don't seem interesting, there doesn't seem to be much potential for laughs either, and considering how many people on Reddit are complaining about how confusing the gameplay and point distribution system is, I don't have high hopes for it once I finally get that first game in. I really hope Jackbox isn't headed in a direction where they're running out of ideas and pooping out lackluster games, because I'd hate to see them fail as a company. Another commenter mentioned the potential for their servers to go down if they go out of business, and I seriously hope that never happens. I think Jackbox should slow down a bit with releasing one pack a year, so they can spend more time fully fleshing out their ideas, and creating some all-time great games full of the personality and potential for insanely crazy moments like many of their previous games. This pack sadly felt like it was rushed to the Steam and console stores.

UPDATE: I got to try Hypnotorious on JChilly's stream, and it was surprisingly not too bad, despite the poor explanation of the rules. Our group thankfully got the hang of it pretty quickly. The game's concept could use some fleshing out, but I didn't hate my time playing (despite one instance where all of us crashed on the phone's end). Plus we also just got a patch for the game, so hopefully all of those bugs are squashed now.

Hypnotorious is the surprising winner of the pack for me. It does take quite a bit to get into, i will admit that, and it helps if you in the group agree on some rules (for example to not discuss anything). But once yiu get into it, it is a truly amazing game. Seeing all the bizarre answers and trying to figure out who the hell everybody else is actually plays out really nicely. It isn't a competition like it tries to be, and one of those games where i wish there were no points, but overall, it is my favorite of the pack.

¡LONG THOUGHTS INCOMMING! Regarding the package... I think here we are encountering what I call the "Assassin Creed effect": annual sagas, problems to generate new/renew ideas, bugs and, worst of all, not fixing them. After 10 years, I admit that I was expecting a package with literally 5 sequels. Omitting that, I tried it with my friends online and this was the result: -TEEKO 2: I'm one of the small groups that doesn't like TEE KO even though I like pack 3. In this case, my opinion changes since they improved certain aspects of TEE KO that I didn't like. Unfortunately, the final round is meh. I think an interesting twist would have been to have the opponent's shirt and edit it, and then vote. As well as adding sub awards like best slogan or best drawing. -Timejinx: I like the trivia approach because it gives a chance to those who don't like it to enjoy it anyway. The variety of rounds is another plus. What we didn't understand is the mechanics of "Jinx" and maybe the lack of use of the general theme of time travel. -DODO RE MI: Rhythm game, we liked it just for the fact of wanting to pass to the next stage. The gameplay is another plus. That the game is not structured, that is to say without rounds, is rare and somewhat wasted because I think it could be a competitive game between teams (like VS mode of Final Fantasy Thearhythm) and free as proposed in addition to regulate the level of Boss fight. This game is the star of the pack, almost to say that it could be sold separately. (BTW, hearing the analysis you can unlock at the start on the menu of the game👀) -Fixytext: many bugs in the demo and still in the final game. Basically, a game without a core beyond "let's vote the funniest words" and nothing extra between rounds or anything different. Within the category of writing games (Quiplash, Survive the internet, etc.), Fixytext needs a lot of Fixy, falling lower than Joke boat. -Hypnotorious: the game of deduction and hidden identities. The premise is interesting although even the outliner itself is difficult to understand (and we come from complex games like Weapons Drawn). Some categories were complex to deduce, trying to guess or going to any jar. As it was not that entertaining for my group, we felt that the game time was too long. I compare it to JPP 3's Fakin´it game, but with a worse execution. As a consumer of these packs, I would just like to give my opinion, then what the company does is up to the team. As a recommendation I would say: more development time, focus on games with online friends, fix bugs and generate micro DLC (before Pack 1, "We dont know" jack already did it) to keep the interest in the games while the packs are being developed.

Tee KO 2 has all three voting instead of just one unlike Quiplash, Time Jinx and Do Do Re Mi can be played with just 1 player, and FixyText is still fun with just 3 players. I wish they didn't get into a pattern of releasing 5 new games every single year. It's a big ask, and it's more apparent with each pack that the games' quality suffers because of the strict deadline. I'd be happy to wait at least 2 years for each pack

I rely on reviews like this to help us out when we are playing as a family and maybe aren't following what we are supposed to be doing. So for that, I appreciate these so much. That said, I also find more often than not that the clips of the game play include incredibly inappropriate names, phrases or prompts. This baffles me as it's entirely unnecessary to include such content when explaining these games. Just something to consider for future reviews. Families play these too.

I'm pretty happy with this jackbox pack! while it doesn't have one game that stands out among the whole collection like press the button, trivia murder party or surivive the internet that everyone will recognize, it has pretty solid games! the rhythm and typing game seem really boring, so i'm excluding those two. while probably a fun little thing to do when having nothing else you want to do, it doesn't seem to have enough replay value. but the other three seem really good! they definitely improved on tee k.o., i love that you now have variety on what kind of shirt you want to have and that the fonts are not always the same one font, but different ones. and the system seems so much better now! i also don't really like the last round, i would've loved something like quiplash did (giving everyone the one best shirt and customizing it/changing the text to something new, and then everyone can award gold, silver or bronze to the ones they like the most), but other than that a great improvement! time jinx is probably my second favorite trivia game after murder party. while all of the questions are similar but just disguised as differently, i still love the variety it seems to give off and the vibe it creates! really neat game! and about hypnotorious - i haven't played it myself, i just watched some other people play, but i kinda loved the concept of role playing as a certain object or person. when answering quiplash questions, sometimes it's so open that you cannot imagine something on the top of your head, but with this limitation, it guides you into a certain direction to answer the questions, which is a huge plus for me personally. the point system doesn't seem like they put enough thought into it, yeah, but i usually don't care about point systems except of they are based on voting, like quiplash, survive the internet or joke boat. when it's something like this, i mostly ignore the points and just focus on whether or not you were able to find out who the outlier is. it could definitely have been improved on some edges, but overall it seems like a really fun game for me personally!

I know the word has lost its meaning from how badly it has been misused recently, but this is truely the definition of a mid pack. It's just, middle of the road. Does nothing too bad but nothing exciting, has a bit of experimentation but even those felt strangely tame. It really is just, mid. Genuinely one of the pack of all time.

I think the biggest problem for me as a rhythm game enjoyer are the maps. Some of them are just not fun. That and the instruments that are 5 and especially 6 lanes are really difficult to play on a normal sized phone. As the buttons are too close together. I didn’t mind it tho. Maybe it’ll grow on me, and I might try playing on a computer next time.

i kinda hope they release dodo re mi seperately, its my favorite game, but i cannot justify buying the pack just for that especially with the price increase. especially with what you said about how its not as social as most jackbox games. pack 10 really feels too experimental for what it is, weh

From what I can gather in the review and comments, this pack is decent, with Dodo Re Mi being the most enjoyed game of the five and Tee K.O. 2 being a good update/sequel to the original, but the missed potential of Timejinx and poor/mixed execution of FixyText and especially Hypnotorious, as well as the many bugs, higher price and the worst audience integration overall out of all the packs brings it down in terms of quality. I’ll most likely still enjoy playing these games, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jackbox Games stops making party packs annually to give themselves more time to fine tune future entries.

Personally, I find pack 10 kinda mixed too, but I prob like it more than not. This may surprise you but, despite the flaws in hypnotorious? I actually really enjoyed it and was my fave game in the pack. TKO2 was fun also, I did like time jinx more back then but after realizing many just try to google the answers and there’s a lot of time? It’s not as fun anymore. If the time was shorter to prevent googling the answers it would be more fun The others were just meh to me So yeah overall it all depends on each persons opinion, neither are wrong or right. Heck, you ranked pack 4 as the 2nd worst pack, but I loved it cause I really loved survive internet and fibbage enough about you :) but again neither are right or wrong, we just like different things

I've played every party pack over the past decade, so I guess that makes me an expert of sorts. 7 is hands-down the most solid assortment of games. It doesn't have my all-time favorites, but every game in 7 is at least good. After that? I'd look at either 3 or 5 as the best value for your wallet. And 6 has a couple of absolute knockouts mixed in with a few I'm cold on. After that? Well, you can expect at least 1 or 2 solid games from most packs, but don't be surprised when you hit some duds. Wait for sales. I wouldn't worry about trying to get the first 2 packs, though. And for God's sake, do _not_ start with pack 10. I didn't care for it all that much, and it was not liked by most other Jackbox vets in my living room. Hope that helps. Happy New Year.

i feel like this pack was too experimental of a gamble to warrant the price increase. tee ko is a slam dunk, as expected, but the other games range from fine but outclassed by other games of their category (trivia and every other rhythm game thats ever existed) or too clunky and poorly paced (fixytext and hypno). this is the first pack ive truly been disappointed with

It really felt like they had found a nice comfortable place. 1 sequel. 2-3 "safe" bets. And 2-3 experimental titles. Packs 6 through 9 were all bangers! Not entirely sure what happened here. Maybe they need to slow their roll instead of forcing 1 release every year?

My personal opinions: Tee K.O. 2 is pretty alright-I do prefer the original for its characters and aesthetics (and, admittedly, the host), but the new garment options and matchup format are upgrades, outside of the final round Timejinx is not for me in terms of gameplay, as someone whose weakest subjects are history and pop culture-it's my least favorite trivia-type game for sure, but its music and sound design are amazing FixyText is one of my favorite games due to the hard rules it can implement outside of a Google Doc-personally, I see a lot of incentive in the text base, it gives you substance to build off of and inspires you on what kind of wackiness to write about Dodo Re Mi is lovely! It's soundtrack is killer, among the best for an individual Jackbox game, and I'm impressed with how organically they made the gameplay work. Your comment about the game making you feel "detached" from each other is honestly an upside in a livestream environment Hypnotorious is my favorite game from this pack-It's admittedly hard to grasp at first, but I think once you do a game, you can REALLY have some fun with it if you like social deduction and analysis

Idk I really liked this pack, it’s in my top 5 packs and the only game I didn’t like was hypnotourius. Fixy text and tee ko 2 are one of the funniest games I’ve ever played with friends and family and while dodo re mi and time jinx isn’t funny, both games are incredibly fun
@fl4re163

Idk hypnotorious seem lame but no one actually follows the prompts for job job anyways, so fuck it. Why don't we have a game where whoever writes obamna in the funniest way wins. Time jinx is going to be another really cool trivia game everyone ignores because it isn't murder party. There's nothing really wrong with dodo remi except that it feels weird as a jackbox game but now that guitar hero is dead it's nest to have a rhythm game to play with friends again. Then tee ko is my favourite jackbox game ever, and the sequel being even better makes this a must buy for me. I think this one will end up like 5 or 6 and become the most underrated pack if all time.

I love Jackbox so much but I don't know why they insist on having such awful tutorials. Literally takes half the games out of consideration for me when I'm playing with non "gamer" people. I feel like they're trying to make it appeal more broadly by minimizing teaching time but it really never works out and we'd all dearly appreciate just a clear explanation of ALL the rules, especially for the more complex games. Instead I have to hunt down YT videos like this one. :/

The best word to describe pack 10 is underbaked,there was good ideas here like fixy text and hypnotorious but failed because of poor execution I think if the team gave themselves 6 more mouths to a year longer to do this pack itd turn out so much better,I think them making a pack every year is taking a toll on the quality personally or at least made the game quality less consistent it’s the 3rd worse pack in my opinion My ratings: TKO 2:7/10 Time jinx:2/10 Fixy text:6.5/10 Dodo remi:6/10 Hypnotorious:7/10

not gonna lie, one thing that disappointed me about teeko2 from someone who loved the original more than champ'd up I think its missing silly lil creatures and relying on popular characters Like, one of the reasons tee ko survived for a while imo was due to the style of silly creatures and it feels it could be a bad omen for jackbox if this pack is this glitchy and they relying on old characters. I don't want jackbox to turn to nostalgia bait for something that was 2 years ago
