I took this train in 2017 on my birthday! It was the best day of my life! I LOVE SCOTLAND!!

My wife and I took the Jacobite in October, 2012, and enjoyed it immensely. It was the first time I had ever been on a steam train, so it was quite the experience. My wife is about 1/2 Scot in ancestry, so she really got a kick out of our trip. We may get back in the future, when she want to go to Skye, the Orkneys, and maybe the Shetlands. Time will tell.

I remember doing this trip many times as a boy in the 60's hanging out the windows, eyes full of grit..!! Taking the train from Fort William to Mallaig, and then the MV "Loch Seaforth" to Kyle of Lochalsh. Class K1 61997 'MacCailin Mor' was always a favourite to haul the train. ;-)

What a spectacular train ride? And, that curved viaduct is a marvel to behold of fantastic, elegant redbrick built Victorian engineering in its simplicity in traversing the rugged terrain. You just have that sense that the designer of the viaduct of the time thought 'we can do this, no problem, with my brick-laying lads'. Is there any documentation on viaduct building one asks? Many thanks for a great video train ride.
@JoseighBlogs5 жыл бұрын
I received a prompt from Christopher125 registering a reply to my comment, which strangely I don't see here. Christopher informs me that viaduct is 'made of concrete', and therefore is merely faced with red brickwork.

Married on midsummer day in 1958 in the Cotswolds. Was on embarkation leave prior to RAF posting to Changi Singapore. Honeymoon began on night train from London to Edinburgh...sleeper with one up one down bunks! Spent time at Oban and travelled from Fort William to Mallaig for a trip to Skye. Mid June and the weather was wet for the whole time but nevertheless we did enjoy. Don't think it was called the Jacobite back then. First of my many mistakes in life.......married on the longest day and shortest night , and then a sleeper with single bunks for the first night.....but a man's a man for a' that!! Been awa' a long time ye ken, living in sub tropical sunny Queensland for last 50 years.
